To keep 4yo DS off school for my 40th birthday?

DS has just started reception class and we're keeping him off school for 3 days as we're going away this weekend, get back Monday, then Tues it's my birthday. Am I being ridiculous to worry about keeping him off school for 3 days so early in the new school year? He's settled in ok and really seems to enjoy learning, gets a little bit clingy when I drop him off but soon settles once I've gone. We just thought we'd keep him off for my birthday too as there are many years ahead now when he'll be in school for it. DH is off for the day and we'll be going out for lunch with DD (2yo) and other family. AIBU to keep him off school for the day or is this ok?

I certainly wouldn't waste any of my allocated holiday on my birthday - I save mine to use during school holidays Grin

baguettecut · 21/09/2011 21:08

I managed to give birth on my birthday. Some people here would combust at the lovely day of double celebrations we have.

The Fat Duck..How fabulous!

AmazingBouncingFerret · 21/09/2011 21:09

Ahh yes, all school friends away on their hols, no handing out party invites during class... that's what's started the hatred of birthdays!

BimboNo5 · 21/09/2011 21:09

Oh yes and resorting to calling people twats make you brain of Britain does it?

PuppyMonkey · 21/09/2011 21:09

I say the world won't end if you keep a 4 year old off for one day. What's he gonna miss, trigonometry? ( I said that on the other thread too, it got a massive laugh).

Mind you, if it were my 40th, I'd positively push mine out the door to school so I could have an indulgent day in the pub with DP.

Live and letlive Bimbo.
You have left a series of rather nasty posts to an uttterly harmless OPs question.
Why is someone elses birthday arrangements winding you up so much?
And I'm over 50, I don't bother with birthdays any more, it's not my thing, but I'm quite happy to celebrate other peoples whether it's a school day or not.
Each to their own

reelingintheyears · 21/09/2011 21:11

ABF has a very fine brain i'll 'ave you know.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 21/09/2011 21:11

Doesnt make me not the brain of Britain... even the most intelligent of people can resort to plain ol namecalling when they fancy it.

GenevieveHawkings · 21/09/2011 21:11

Don't worry BimboNo5 - some of these would be green if they knew how my DH would like to spoil me and spend £££s on me for my birthday. I'm just not interested. I'm not a me, me, me type. I'll leave getting excited about birthdays for the kids.

GingerWrath · 21/09/2011 21:12

I have 2 close friends who are also 40 next year, we are planning a weekend away and will all be leaving DC's with our DH's! (cue much vino and raucous giggling!)

OP enjoy your birthday with your family and make sure you take plenty of photos.

BimboNo5 · 21/09/2011 21:12

Im sorry but its ridiculous, ive seen similar threads where people have suggested their ickle darlings may miss out going to school on their birthdays should they keep them off school to be told they are ridiculous self centred and precious, yet because its mother dearests birthday then its totally acceptable?

GwendolineMaryLacey · 21/09/2011 21:12

Wow, I know where the bitches are hanging out tonight. The rest of MN should be nice and calm then... Jesus Hmm

Have a great birthday OP. Take no notice of the bitter, resentful, jealous people. Your plans sound lovely, your child's life won't be ruined beyond redemption.

SwearyMary · 21/09/2011 21:12

Oh Bimbo give it a rest, will you?

OP Take your child out of school, for heavens sake, and don't feel guilty. He is so young and won't miss much. Yes, each year of school is important in one way or another but a couple of days will not be detrimental to his education.

ShirelyKnottage · 21/09/2011 21:13

Molly - that's lovely!

Baguette - YES. The Fat Duck and I'm taking my boys and we are going to stay overnight locally and I'm already saving up (18 months to go) and it is going to be AMAZEBALLS. We love Heston and watch all of his stuff and call him a genius are so excited already! Grin

But then again, I make a fuss of all birthdays, they're an important day - the one day of the year that truly belongs to you and it's such little effort for such lovely enduring memories.

AuntieMonica · 21/09/2011 21:13

you're not sorry Bimbo

no way are you sorry

AmazingBouncingFerret · 21/09/2011 21:15

Back to the question... OP i'm taking my DS (4yrs) out of school next week to go to the zoo and I don't even have an excuse of a birthday to use! I just fancy taking him and dont want to go at the weekend when it will be busy! Grin

LadyBeagleEyes · 21/09/2011 21:17

Right, I've had my say on this thread.
Can someone please point me in the direction of another ridiculous argumentative thread.
I'm all fired up now.

reelingintheyears · 21/09/2011 21:17

Which zoo ABF?

AuntieMonica · 21/09/2011 21:17

aw, ABF

that's so lovely, i'd loved to have had a day off, just for me

to be taken out and feel like the mutz nutz for the day Grin

RockStockAndTwoOpenBottles · 21/09/2011 21:20

Shirls - I promised myself that I would go to the Fat DUck for my 40th too, but a certain cunt decided to fuck with my life so I didn't manage it. I will be going. You should come with me as you worship Heston as much as I do

OP - FFS he's 4, seriously, go and have a fantastic weekend away and have a wonderful lunch with your family for your birthday on Tuesday.

He's 4. What's the fucking problem. Confused

ShirelyKnottage · 21/09/2011 21:20

Looks promising LBE.

I'm not touching that one with a bargepole! Wink

ShirelyKnottage · 21/09/2011 21:20

YOU should come with ME Rock!

April not next year, the year after! Wink

usualsuspect · 21/09/2011 21:21

I think I will go and be a cunt on another thread now

PreviouslyonLost · 21/09/2011 21:22
