AIBU?

STAND UP AND BE COUNTED AND STOP THE ATTACKS ON SN PARENTS

ok NOT an aibu, but this is where it will be seen the most and it NEEDS awareness.

quite frankly, i along with others am appalled at the comments that are being made and left to stand, toward the SN community, they are downright offensive and quite simply appalling.

i am sure (or hope) that the majority on here do NOT agree with them but yet the SN community on mn are not being supported, whether this is because people do not know what to say, or they havent seen these posts i do not know?

BUT IT IS ABOUT TIME THAT THINGS CHANGED, so this a thread where you can stand up and be counted and say that you do not agree with the disregard, blatant trolling and offensive behaviour towards our lovely mn who have or are dealing with sn in their family.

they need this place for support, not the vile behaviour that they are getting.

so please post here and show your support and help make a change for the better.

all it takes is a smile next to your name to show you agree :)

Does the title offend you Kladdkaka?

'I have absolutely no idea what these comments consist of as I do not routinely check the SN section.'

You don't need to, look out in AIBU and along they float.

Sorry 4madboys if that sounded grumpy, am fed up today.

'Is asking people to 'stand up and be counted' not in itself discriminatory and therefore offensive towards those of us with special needs who cannot stand up?'

You can do it in your head. I regularly stand up for human rights whilst slumped on the sofa and tapping on a keyboard. Smile

I'd like to know what it is that you actually want before I stand up and be counted as supporting it. I confront hate speech when I see it (unless I get to the thread late and it's already been dealt with) but I don't know what it is that you are demanding and I cannot say "yes I agree" without knowing that.

Btw, if you're worried about this thread getting attention maybe a title that actually says what it is about would be more helpful?

mamolino not grumpy at all :)

its not in the sn section, its all over mn, mainly aibu, and i WILL stand up to it when i see it, but do not always see it till after the event and i am not sure that 'bumping' the thread is always the right thing to do.

but i do report posts when reading a thread, even after it has fallen out of active discussion.

i apologise if 'stand up and be counted' seems discriminatory, but i meant it in the metaphorical sense, to just post and say YES i think the vile comments made towards sn mnetters are WRONG.

i am not standing up, i am sat on a chair in my pj's! Grin

I haven't seen many of these comments in AIBU, though to be fair I normally avoid threads that descend into slanging matches about benefits or pedantry.

If I'm actually posting on a thread and I think someone's being deliberately nasty or deliberately ignorant, then I'll say something...no matter what the subject is.

Generally though, I don't think it's a good idea for MNHQ to delete ignorant opinions...but personal attacks are a different matter.

If I ever see an anti-sn (or indeed anti-anything) comment I assure you I will challenge it. But I just don't often see them. Am I on the wrong threads?

can you edit the title? goes off to look...

and what i want is more support for sn posters, for people to say 'hang on a minute it is NOT ok to post like this against people' join in if you see itand voice your support.

and i want mnhq to come up with a policy of dealing with it and to make it clear that they too will NOT tolerate it.

I really really do theink MNHQ need to step up to the plate on this one. We all know what a good place for support MN can be - a recent example would be at the beginning of the year, MNHQ supported bereaved parents against the farcical EastEnders storyline. We know MNHQ can do it. We're waiting for them to do it.

MNHQ - You need to look after your own. Now.

I apoligise in advance. I have linked this to death but, Mencap do some really useful campaigns that do make a difference.

Combined with Scope and others, they got the government to put back plans for benefit reforms for disabled people.

They are currently campaiging for more funding for better care for those with LD's as because of the budget cuts there is becoming a serious shortfall. If you can join in by clinking the link on this site and contact your MP. They also did a campaign that involved better training for the police on dealing with hate crime/speech.

I see what you're saying but it's not always that simple.

I've seen posters jumped on from a great height for simply voicing their opinion...that happens to be based on lack of knowledge.

Often the poster will then ask a question and get told it's not up to posters on here to educate others about SN.

So if it's a deliberately nasty, hurtful comment then fair enough...but if it's simply a poster being jumped on because they haven't used a Politically correct word...well that normally takes the thread off on a tangent and I feel sorry for the OP as they often get ignored during the bun fight.

What do you expect MN to do? Employ hundreds of moderators to read every thread?

Or do you think that there are cases where hate speech is being reported but they are not doing anything about it?

(I'm saying "hate speech" even though it's a rubbish phrases because it doesn't have to be just anti-SN)
