But if it had been anywhere but America the world would have moved on and we wouldn't be facing wall-to-wall coverage ten years on. Even if it had been the UK only the UK would be remembering.

The Boxing Day tsunami and the Japanese quake/tsunami will be remembered 10 years on, just to name a couple. The devastating loss of nearly 3000 people DESERVES wall to wall coverage 10 years on IMO.

biwi no I don't. I think that there may have been a mention in passing that "ten years ago 3000 people were killed," and there may have been a programme to commemorate on the day, but weeks and weeks of coverage? no, not at all.

I think it was a pretty momentous thing tbh

I attended the Bali bombing memorial in 2004 and Irrc it's an annual event.

the point I am making is that the reason why we remember 9/11 is because it was perpitrated against America.

As individuals we remember how terrible it was/where we were when we heard what had happened - of course we do.

But as a whole if it was somewhere else it would not be commemorated on this scale.

YABU. as others have said we remember other events too. It's not only the sad death of 3000 people but the way the attacks have changed the whole world.

I agree with you, wannabe. It isn't that it doesn't deserve commemoration. It isn't that at all. It's that, sadly, we DON'T commemorate all the victims of all the wars and atrocities and natural disasters that have happened ever, or even in the last 20 years, even. I think part of the reason why we remember some and not others is because the media helps us. And the media, as an international community, is either outright US-controlled or heavily US-influenced.

But it wasn't jusyt Americans who died and I am sure the hijackers knew it would be other nationalities who died.

It's not just that a lot of people died, like in the Japanese or Haitian Earthquakes. It's that this tragic loss of life was entirely man-made, and a pivotal moment in history affecting many nations. Of course it will always be rememebered!

It was mass murder that was captured on film and many of us watched events unfold on T.V. in real time. I have no connection to any of the victims or families affected by 9/11 but I won't ever forget it. I would feel the same if it happened anywhere in the world.
