To not want the Tooth Fairy to visit Granny too.

DD had her first tooth fall out this morning (after much wobbling). We are expecting a visit from the tooth fairy tonight. I texted a picture of her with gappy smile to the grandparents. MIL wants me to tell DD that the tooth fairy also visited her so that she can give her some money too.

I think this is a really bad idea and will confuse DD no end. Also, I know I'm probably being precious here but I don't really see why MIL has to muscle in on the event. AIBU?

It's such a sweet idea....But why not pool the money and put it under the one pillow.

That was jsut the sort of thing my Mil used to come up with. Bad idea, how do you explain that the fairy visits one grandma but not the other one, or then will your mum want to start giving as well. A firm no is needed.

I can see where you're coming from. Could mil give her some money or a gift to celebrate the event but not make it from the tooth fairy?

Oh my MIL does this too - I am NOT happy about it at all Angry DS on the other hand is very happy. DS is 10 by the way - I really ought to get over it oughtn't I? Blush

I agree with you though - stop her muscling in. Tell Granny dd will probably tell other children that the tooth fairy visits her granny as well and she (dd) could well be ostracized as a result.

YANBU. It's maybe a bit silly but I think that would piss me off too! Not sure why though!

Also, I'm a bit confused - the tooth fairy comes if YOU lose a tooth. Are MIL's teeth falling out? Does she want to be a fairy? What's she on about?

You are telling your child that fairies will visit when she's asleep and leave her money but you dont want her nan to do the same thing because it will confuse her.

I doubt that your daughter would be "confused no end", but why would theTF be visiting MIL?

Sounds like her intentions are far from malicious!

She's a doting gran and wants to share in the tooth fairy thing...so let her!
What is the harm.

If you don't want to go along with the toothfairy visiting her thing...then just suggest you add her funds to the general pot.

Don't blow this up into something it's not....or see malice where only kindness was intended!

Presumably she did it for her own child(ren), now why can´t she just leave OP to do it for hers?

She can give her own GD money/a present if she wants-not everything has to come from the TF!

diddl the toothfairy doesn't visit anyone. If you pretend she's visiting one you can just as easily have a second pretend visit can't believe I'm having this conversation

why on earth would she go to granny's house and leave money there too??? it's just weird.

YANBU, this would piss me off too.

It's one thing to tell a story about a fairy coming and giving you money in exchance for your tooth, it's another to start coming up with a whole fairy conspiracy.

The fairy gives money in exchange of the tooth. End of. Why would the fairy go to Grannys house if there were no fecking tooth there?

Children aren't stupid, there is only so much of a story you can tell without them thinking you are mental.

Tell MIL that she can give the money just for fun. I wouldn't like my child to be told they were brave and then be rewarded for something that took no bravery whatesoever, and was in fact very fun and exciting!
