to loathe this sense of entitlement we hear/read/see everyday

the idea of some taxes is to pay into a pool for those in genuine need of some kind of benefits. but i am sick to death of people who feel that just because they paid tax for a certain amount of years they can now claim benefits just because they say "its their money". these people are making fraudulent claims but its justified to them because they have paid into the pot so to speak and now its their turn to give up working and relax.

if i hear "i am entitled to ..." one more time i'll smack someone!

we have become a nation of "entitlers".

even my own family ask why do i work x amount of hours when i coudl claim this that and the other. "you are entitled to you know"! er .... no i'm not.

I pay tax ,just like you Blueberties

Is your tax special?

tethersend · 25/08/2011 16:55

I get annoyed with people who think that they pay for someone's benefits because they pay their taxes. Isn't that the same?

Rocky12 · 25/08/2011 16:56

Here we go again with benefits. I dont think anyway has any issues with people who have fallen on hard times due to losing their job etc receiving benefits but we have gone so far the other way it will take a brave government to try and pull this back.

If you 'choose' to have a child with someone you hardly know and you are under 18 and then choose and choose again to have children which you cannot afford because you have never worked and never wanted to then you should not be given more and more, a bigger house, more benefits etc. There are no consequences to your choices apart from being given more and more! Under 18 years old either stay at home and let the family take the consequences of their actions or a hostel place will be found for them where they will be supported and taught a skill.

If you have not found work after a certain length of time then you will be given the jobs that are perhaps not attractive to you. If you 'choose' not to take them then you will lose your benefits. No claiming you cannot move from the area because your best friend lives near you (yes, I saw this on a thread as a reason why someone couldnt look outside of their current area for a job!), you can have benefits but they wont be something for nothing.

If I didnt work I wouldnt get paid, who do people on benefits feel that they can take the money and for sometimes years on end NEVER put anything back.

scuzy · 25/08/2011 16:57

but they do tethersend amongst other things.

OP posts:
scuzy · 25/08/2011 16:57

where do you think the money comes from???

OP posts:
crazynanna · 25/08/2011 16:58

My tax is special, because I don't mind it going to less advantaged people than me Wink

Blueberties · 25/08/2011 16:58

Yes I think I pay for people's benefits with my taxes. Do I not?

Certainly when I paid fifteen years of NI I didn't pay for my own benefits, to which I was not entitled as the NI had been paid in the wrong year.

So who's paying for the benefits if not the taxpayer?

Well usualsuspect if you don't mind a bit of theft and fraud you'll be alright with tax evasion

me - not keen on it

Blueberties · 25/08/2011 16:59

I mind mine going to less scrupulous people than me.

Rocky12 · 25/08/2011 16:59

Yes, if the tax payers arent paying the benefits who is....

Blueberties · 25/08/2011 17:01

Tethersend you once said the money you pay in tax has never been "your" money because it was never in your bank account, it goes straight out of your pay packet. So it's just communal money even though you earned it, and you have no right to an opinion, approval or objection to how it's spent, because it's never been yours.

Do you still think this?

usualsuspect · 25/08/2011 17:01

Are you sure about that, Blueberties

Tax evasion/avoidance is not usually frowned on by the Tories

Blueberties · 25/08/2011 17:02

Ooh perhaps not - benefit fraud isn't the same as tax evasion is it

one of them, after all, is legal

I assume then that you approve of turning a blind eye to tax avoidance Smile

Cocoflower · 25/08/2011 17:03

But usual, forget the tories. If you turn a blind to stealing benefits, you must then turn a blind eye to stealing on all levels- you cannot be selective about it

usualsuspect · 25/08/2011 17:05

I would turn a blind eye to a cash in hand job ,yes

As would most people on this thread shouting report the benefit scroungers

OpinionatedMum · 25/08/2011 17:06

I once saw a benefit claimant put tomato ketchup on their chips. Shock You don't need tommy K, it's a luxury, the chips would have satiated his hunger. Talk about sense of entitlement. I am not happy for MY money to be spent on ketchup.

What's that about this tax avoiderence?

Rocky12 · 25/08/2011 17:07

The rules and policies around benefit claiming needs to change. The more mistakes and bad decisions you make should not result in more money and benefits. I am fed up with people coming up with all sorts of reasons why they cannot work, or move to an area with better prospects. Rules which you give a bigger house the more children you have or because their ages or sex demands that they are 'entitled' to a room of their own needs to change.

Spuddybean · 25/08/2011 17:08

Also it is important to sign on if you are out of work as is keeps up your NI/stamp payments - Particularly important for women as they can get a nasty shock on retirement.

When i was 1st made redundant i didn't because i thought i wouldn't be entitled to anything as i had a small redundancy payout. so i spent the lot of that and then claimed. then when i found work i had to work for a whole month before i got paid and didn't have any money for fare (£500 per month).

I was entitled to the money even tho i had a few thousand in the bank as my payment was way under the threshold and my NI wasn't paid either. I should have signed on immediately.

It also is important for the gov to know how many people are unhappily unemployed so they can't fudge the numbers.

My current DP earns over the threshold and i only can find temp work. So if i stop working again through no fault of my own my stamp wont get paid but if we split up i am left with nothing.

I had only been with DP 3 weeks when the job centre said he should support me! Seriously, who should support me more, someone who has known me for less than a month or a system which i had paid into for years?

I am an individual and MY entitlement should not be in relation to what someone else earns. How is that fair?

crazynanna · 25/08/2011 17:09

Agreed usual

OpinionatedMum · 25/08/2011 17:11

Totally agree with usual suspect on cash in hand.

Jins · 25/08/2011 17:11

I was made redundant a while back and I'm claiming contribution based JSA because I'm entitled to it. Could I manage without £67.50 a week? Very probably. Do I want a break in my NI contribution history? Absolutely not.

Do I therefore politely decline the JSA and ask them to just pay my stamp? Of course not because I'm entitled to it. If I wasn't entitled then I wouldn't get it.

usualsuspect · 25/08/2011 17:12

All them benefit claimants living in mansions and eating tomato ketchup ,its a bloody disgrace

OpinionatedMum · 25/08/2011 17:15

Don't forget the salt and vinegar! Shock

fargate · 25/08/2011 17:15

......MY tax pays for universal child benefit, education, social care, healthcare, emergency services, national security, the judiciary, etc etc.

I don't resent that and I don't start threads about loathing anyones 'entitlement' to having their house fire extinguished, being protected from terrorists attacks or violent offenders, child protection services, caring for people with dementia, cancer, ad infinitum.

And I don't personalise this to YOU

Me, me, me, me.......... Get sick of hearing it.

scuzy · 25/08/2011 17:16

well good for you usualsuspect and opinionatedmum that you obviously earn enough not to be bothered about increased taxes or benefit fraud

OP posts:
scuzy · 25/08/2011 17:17

fargate you know i was talking about any of that. your gona waaay off the point.
