to loathe this sense of entitlement we hear/read/see everyday

the idea of some taxes is to pay into a pool for those in genuine need of some kind of benefits. but i am sick to death of people who feel that just because they paid tax for a certain amount of years they can now claim benefits just because they say "its their money". these people are making fraudulent claims but its justified to them because they have paid into the pot so to speak and now its their turn to give up working and relax.

if i hear "i am entitled to ..." one more time i'll smack someone!

we have become a nation of "entitlers".

even my own family ask why do i work x amount of hours when i coudl claim this that and the other. "you are entitled to you know"! er .... no i'm not.

Do feel better for that.

OP are you thinking of campaigning to stop any tax evasion/avoidance which is costing you infinitely more ?

Or just interested in grassing on folks like your neighbour with your self-righteousness?

Spuddybean · 25/08/2011 16:30

i agree fargate you are either entitled to something or you aren't. It is just a factual word.

Insomnia11 · 25/08/2011 16:30

Many people don't claim what they're entitled to because the system is so deliberately complicated.

The surplus generated by unclaimed benefits, I understand, is far bigger than the amount lost to fraud. Just to put it into context.

Blueberties · 25/08/2011 16:32

I've developed my own sense of entitlement - to the money I earn. Hurrah! Unfortunately a lot of other people who didn't earn it seem to think they're entitled to it to Sad

Cocoflower · 25/08/2011 16:35

Fargate are you saying OP shouldn't 'grass' on her neighbours then?

usualsuspect · 25/08/2011 16:36

Why should she grass on her neighbours ?

Cocoflower · 25/08/2011 16:37

Because she said they were not looking for work and no intention

If true, do you need see this as fraud?

Cocoflower · 25/08/2011 16:37

I mean not see this as

usualsuspect · 25/08/2011 16:39

No not really

Cocoflower · 25/08/2011 16:40

How is it NOT fraud then?

MugglesandLuna · 25/08/2011 16:41

Benefit bashing by stealth

usualsuspect · 25/08/2011 16:42

If they weren't entitled to JSA they wouldn't get it

scuzy · 25/08/2011 16:46

well then usualsuspect they told lies as they are boasting about saying they are not looking for work that they are taking a well earned break and "claiming back" what they feel is theirs because they paid tax. hence a "sense of entitlement".

OP posts:
Cocoflower · 25/08/2011 16:46

You are only entitled to JSA if your a job seeker.

Therefore if what the OP says is true and they are not activley looking then they miss this essential criteria.

However I did believe you had jo the the job centre every week with a book/file as proof you were applying so Im not sure how they are doing it.

Spuddybean · 25/08/2011 16:47

usual i think she is saying if you claim JSA one of the requirements to make you entitled to it is you have to look for work. You have to write doen 3 things you have done per week. if you don't look for work you can lie and make up the 3 things - they don't always check (never did with me). You sign officially saying you have told the truth -Therefore if you haven't it's technically fraud.

usualsuspect · 25/08/2011 16:47

oh well , never mind

usualsuspect · 25/08/2011 16:49

I can't bring myself to get worked up about what my neighbours or the bloke up the street are doing tbh

scuzy · 25/08/2011 16:51

i am not bashing anyone on benefits or claiming what they are genuinely entitled to .... i am talking about those that feel taxes they have paid are theirs for the taking when they want a break from work or have no intention of going back to work.

Me too.....I just look in my own back yard Wink

scuzy · 25/08/2011 16:52

i normally dont either but when they openly tell you, boast about it and tells you your stupid for working it gets annoying. so i might just report them but they will just produce made up evidence of looking for work and nothing will be done.

OP posts:
scuzy · 25/08/2011 16:53

crazynanna i may just have to do that ... ignore them.

OP posts:
crazynanna · 25/08/2011 16:53

So why bother report them,Scuzy?

crazynanna · 25/08/2011 16:54

x post sorry Scuzy x

Blueberties · 25/08/2011 16:54

"I can't bring myself to get worked up about what my neighbours or the bloke up the street are doing tbh"

maybe because it's not your money?

socialists never run out of other people's, do they

Cocoflower · 25/08/2011 16:55

Well Im glad people can be bothered to get worked up if means the right thing for all of us. No one likes to be cheated.

Rather money goes to those who need it and have no choice but to get help- more in pot for them I say.

Its quite shameful people turn a blind eye to theft and fraud.
