the idea of some taxes is to pay into a pool for those in genuine need of some kind of benefits. but i am sick to death of people who feel that just because they paid tax for a certain amount of years they can now claim benefits just because they say "its their money". these people are making fraudulent claims but its justified to them because they have paid into the pot so to speak and now its their turn to give up working and relax.

if i hear "i am entitled to ..." one more time i'll smack someone!

we have become a nation of "entitlers".

even my own family ask why do i work x amount of hours when i coudl claim this that and the other. "you are entitled to you know"! er .... no i'm not.

I was under the impression that only those on disability benefits got a Christmas bonus?

When I was on Income Support last year I did not receive any extra payment around Christmas.

I think people call benefits entitlements because that is what the government agencies call them, the JCP, PM etc all say they will make sure people get what they are entitled to.

I do not feel I am entitled to anything, I am just grateful I live in a country which supports those who fall on difficult times.

I'm sorry but I have undersatood very little of what the OP has written, so I don't really know how to contribute to this - except to support those saying that the Government has a specific vocabularly for benefits and tax credits, and it is reasonable therefore to use these terms in context. If, say, paying NI for a certyain number of years allows a person to be legally 'entitled' to a benefit or credit, then that is simply a fact.

If I tell you that I am entitled to drive my car because I have a license and all necessary paperwork, then I don't expect to be crticised for my 'sense of entitlement' because that would be just fucking barking.

Or am I missing some big significant social point here?

No, my 'Erm...' was a starting point of my sentence. Op's 'so erm' was akin to poking out their tongue.

Please yourself with however you wish to take it scuzy; I've never been rude to any poster and I'm not going to, nor have I started, with you.
