to loathe this sense of entitlement we hear/read/see everyday

the idea of some taxes is to pay into a pool for those in genuine need of some kind of benefits. but i am sick to death of people who feel that just because they paid tax for a certain amount of years they can now claim benefits just because they say "its their money". these people are making fraudulent claims but its justified to them because they have paid into the pot so to speak and now its their turn to give up working and relax.

if i hear "i am entitled to ..." one more time i'll smack someone!

we have become a nation of "entitlers".

even my own family ask why do i work x amount of hours when i coudl claim this that and the other. "you are entitled to you know"! er .... no i'm not.

OP posts:
tethersend · 25/08/2011 22:24

"Ok then they're fraudsters if they claim. Do you have some difficulty in understanding the difference between people who claim, people who don't, and people who claim under the law, and people who don't?"

Please point out where I have confused them.

Cocoflower · 25/08/2011 22:25

SHE SAID SHE WAS!!!

"Whats disheartening is being made redundant in your 50s and having to sign on, and being made to feel like the lowest of the fucking low by people who believe all they read"

I give up.

tethersend · 25/08/2011 22:27

Coco, nowhere in that sentence does usualsuspect say she is a claimant.

There's no need to shout, just read it again. Where does she say that she is talking about herself?

Blueberties · 25/08/2011 22:28

In your last few posts: you said I wasn't criticising benefit fraudsters, I was criticising the people in the OP, who felt entitled to benefits because they'd paid in,m then you went on to say or imply they were fraudsters.

So yes, I'm criticising fraudsters, and if the people in the OP are claiming fraudulently, I'm criticising them.

Straightforward train of thought.

tethersend · 25/08/2011 22:28

"Lack of "moral fibre" was given as a reason by sunshine for why people should receive benefits."

No, what she said was:

"Benefit eligibility should be primarily about whether or not you need it, not whether or not you've paid enough in to deserve it or whether you're of strong enough moral fibre to be worthy of it."

So, in fact, the opposite.

Cocoflower · 25/08/2011 22:29

Your being beyond ridiculous now! Do you only understand things if they are written in there literal form?

Honestly I think your just looking for some great bunfight.

CBA though this is getting tedious

Blueberties · 25/08/2011 22:29

I think usualsuspect is a taxpayer but turns a blind eye to benefit crime.

tethersend · 25/08/2011 22:30

"you said I wasn't criticising benefit fraudsters, I was criticising the people in the OP, who felt entitled to benefits because they'd paid in,m then you went on to say or imply they were fraudsters."

Please quote me saying that.

I was talking about the examples in the OP, and until the last few posts I had assumed you were too.

Blueberties · 25/08/2011 22:31

So I think Coco's assumption is natural in some ways. There aren't many taxpayers that do that and usualsuspect is unusual in that respect.

tethersend · 25/08/2011 22:32

Coco, don't get upset- you were just wrong to assume that she claimed, that's all. How is pointing that out "beyond ridiculous"? Confused

Blueberties · 25/08/2011 22:32

Well I'm talking about fraudsters (and lazy feckers), and you're saying the people in the OP are fraudsters or think they're entitled to defraud the state.

Soooo.. what's your beef with what I'm saying?

Blueberties · 25/08/2011 22:35

Here we are:

"Let's go back to the subject of the OP- people who claim benefits when they are not entitled to because they feel they are entitled to due to the money they put in through paying tax.

You are saying it's not their money

You are saying you don't want your money to go to them."

of course not - if they're not eligible to claim

Is this frightfully hard to understand?

Cocoflower · 25/08/2011 22:35

Im not upset - just bored at having to be so tedious over nothing and I hate going back through threads when someone claims "no-one said that" when they really, really did!

The heat makes me impatient too.

tethersend · 25/08/2011 22:42

Blue, let me put it another way:

Imagine somebody the same age as you who has worked exactly the same amount of time for the same wage as you; in other words, someone who has paid exactly the same amount of tax over their lives as you have. Let's call him Jeff. One day, Jeff gets made redundant. He refuses to look for another job, yet continues to claim JSA as he feels that he is entitled to his tax money back.

This was condemned by many posters on the thread as 'it's not his money' and 'it's a waste of 'my' tax money.'

Here's my issue: How can the tax money remain yours, but cease to be Jeff's? Jeff has paid in the same amount as you.

You will probably take this to mean that I am saying that Jeff has a right to the money. I'm not. I'm saying that you don't. None of us do. It's not 'ours'.

So, if it can't be Jeff's money, it can't be yours (or mine) either.

tethersend · 25/08/2011 22:45

""Let's go back to the subject of the OP- people who claim benefits when they are not entitled to because they feel they are entitled to due to the money they put in through paying tax.

You are saying it's not their money

You are saying you don't want your money to go to them."

of course not - if they're not eligible to claim"

They're not eligible to claim. I said so at the start of that quote. Look ^

I'm not sure why you're confused.

tethersend · 25/08/2011 22:46

"I hate going back through threads when someone claims "no-one said that" when they really, really did!"

But they really, really didn't!

I'm sorry you're hot. If it helps, it's raining here.

woollyideas · 25/08/2011 22:49

scuzy

my MIL think that because me and dp aren't married i should claim single mothers allowance because i am entitled to it as I am working since i was 16!

What is 'single mothers allowance?'
Never heard of it...

usualsuspect · 25/08/2011 23:06

I never once said I was talking about myself claiming benefits

HTH

Blueberties · 25/08/2011 23:07

Why is it sooooo difficult to understand.

Why do you think giving the money in tax is the same as receiving the money in benefit?

Blueberties · 25/08/2011 23:11

It's not that hard. I'm bored too. I pay tax - steal it and you steal my tax. You are trying ever so hard not to understand this, God knows why, maybe it's a roundabout way of defending theft and benefit crime. Who cares. Enjoy your extraordinary views.

Cocoflower · 25/08/2011 23:15

This has got to be the most tedious thread ever now!

I would love some rain sent here. I do at 34 weeks pregnant, now feel very selfishly entitled to some rain. Some good hardcore rain.

Maybe I should try some sort of rain dance?

tethersend · 25/08/2011 23:18

Jesus wept.

"Why do you think giving the money in tax is the same as receiving the money in benefit?"

I don't. Nowhere have I said that. Jeff thinks that.

"I pay tax - steal it and you steal my tax."

Why isn't it Jeff's tax? He's paid just as much tax as you.

This, and this alone, is my point. You need to stop imagining my arguments.

"maybe it's a roundabout way of defending theft and benefit crime"

Oh dear.

Who says JSA claimants have "fuck all"? Some might have been earning £60k only a few weeks back.

My DH claimed and had a house and a family.

I highly suspect no one was jealous of him at the time though!

Cocoflower · 25/08/2011 23:25

"Torn apart with jealousy"- I tell ya!

Oh yes when the spotted us coming out of iceland with £10 worth of crap and then onto poundland to get the most out of fiver. They must have been going green!
