to think smokers should be made to smoke away from people?

I've always been quite anti smoking had a gran who dies of lung cancer, but since I was pregnant with DD and now that I'm out and about with her it really angers me when people are smoking in public areas, if it were up to me I'd ban smoking in all public places ie high streets, door ways to, restaurants, childrens play areas etc and don't even get me started on the bit outside the hospital and make people smoke in smoking rooms or back streets. I got abuse from a woman the other day who came over to speak to DD and puffed her smoke all over her when I asked her not to.

Not yet, baby.

I take that to mean we are doing well, and making our baccy last. Grin

alphabettyspagghetti · 22/08/2011 22:05

No, there's nicotine in it, it's just that it was cherry flavoured as well. An ex boyfriends dad used to smoke them and I miss that smell.

DrPolidori · 22/08/2011 22:05

has this become the "smoking habits of shame" thread?

Ugh, Yes!

Particularly easy for me as I ever only smoke half a rollie at a time....

alphabettyspagghetti · 22/08/2011 22:06

Not yet Baby. A pouch of 25g lasts me about 2-3 weeks if not longer when I'm busy.

babycham42 · 22/08/2011 22:07

Of course, I never have either Blush

MrsDBouquet · 22/08/2011 22:07

Half a rollie at a time ? Really, DrP ?

Am I wrong to think that 2 rollies = 1 cigarette ?

Given the difference in size and everything ?

Surely I'm right ? Grin

LadyBeagleEyes · 22/08/2011 22:08

Oh yes babycham, many a time.
If my tobacco is running out and the shop is closed I make sure I don't empty my ashtray, just in case.

alphabettyspagghetti · 22/08/2011 22:09

More like 2 fags to 1 rollie. Rollies are more intense I've found and like I said before I'm sure I'm sucking in more air with real fags than I am with rollies.

MrsPresley · 22/08/2011 22:10

MrsDBouquet

I do my DP's for him, he's hopeless at making them!

reelingintheyears · 22/08/2011 22:11

I never 'finish' a rollie either but....

I don't re roll....it's horrid.

And i only smoke Golden virginia.

MrsDBouquet · 22/08/2011 22:12

I just can't do it. They end up all fat and uneven, or I lick the paper so it's too wet and wont stick together.

DH does all mine as he says if I attempt it I just waste baccy etc.....after he has pissed himself laughing at my attempt.

newmum001 · 22/08/2011 22:12

If you don't like the smell etc I suggest you stay in your house and let the smokers roam freely through the streets as outside is the only place people can bloody smoke these days!

FabbyChic · 22/08/2011 22:13

I use filter tips! I can roll by hand can do one now real quick.

alphabettyspagghetti · 22/08/2011 22:13

Agreed New Mum, the Zombies wont complain about us smoking. They are already dead.

alphabettyspagghetti · 22/08/2011 22:14

I just cant roll by hand. I've tried and tried, but just end up wasting papers.

Gingefringe · 22/08/2011 22:14

When I went for my first job interview in the late 80's I could hardly see the bloke who interviewed me through the cloud of smoke - first thing he did was offer me a cigarette! At the time it was quite normal for people to smoke everywhere and you didn't complain. How times have changed. I dont think a bit of smoke in the fresh air will do you any harm (apart from harm the smoker of course, but that's their decision).

Strange how people think that they are suddenly higher beings once they become pregnant and that everyone else should bow to their wishes.
I'm not a smoker but think YABU.

sportinguista · 22/08/2011 22:14

Strange thing is I try to discreetly move away from smokers when they are say at bus stops etc and have often been flamed for moving away from said smoker, they seem to think I should either like or put up with it.

BTW am an ex smoker and am married to smoker.

The last guy who did this was incredibly rude, almost threatening. Some seem to feel they rule the world. I try to be as discrete as possible but it seems it's sometimes not enough...

FabbyChic · 22/08/2011 22:15

I smoke Amberleaf. When I get paid I get six 50g pouches and it lasts me a month. I smoke a lot! Used to smoke 30 fags a day.

reelingintheyears · 22/08/2011 22:16

Practise makes perfect.

babycham42 · 22/08/2011 22:16

I have even been asked not to smoke in my own back garden by a guest to my house before!
Now surely NO ONE can say THAT is reasonable!

alphabettyspagghetti · 22/08/2011 22:18

Sporting..there is no need for people to be rude about it. Sometimes though you just win, no matter what you do. I never have a go at someone for moving away if I'm smoking, if anything I usually make an effort to move further away from them or try my best to not let the smoke blow towards them.

MrsDBouquet · 22/08/2011 22:19

'We' (may husband and eye) Wink, smoke Golden Virginia. We find that a 50g packet lasts us a week. Bloody brilliant when you think it's only £15 rather than what we spent on packets. I have no idea really how we afforded to smoke when I think about it. (Which I try not to).

adamschic · 22/08/2011 22:20

You all stink and smoking should be banned. Smug ex smoker, gave up 7 months ago. Yey Grin

One thing that pisses me off is that you cannot smoke except outside (unless at home), yet they still display the shiny packets behind the till. Lots of other countries have taken them off the displays and out of view yet are much more balanced about smoking. e.g certain bars where you can enjoy a smoke, airport lounge section etc.

Now everyone moans about smoke in the street and littering. Typical ill thought out policy.

alphabettyspagghetti · 22/08/2011 22:20

It's not reasonable. I'd have gone back inside and told them to wait outside if someone said that to me.

Even when I wasn't a smoker and as a ex smoker I still allowed people to smoke inside if it was raining or cold out. Opening a door or window for a few minutes doesnt do anyone any harm.
