to do the food shopping alone even though DH will be annoyed

My DH never, ever lets me go food shopping on my own. He always insists on coming, I suspect because he wants to fill the trolley up with biscuits and chicken kievs that he knows I won't buy !
We should have gone shopping last week, the cupboards and fridge are looking like mother hubbard's and the cats are having to eat tuna because there is no cat food. However, due to our shifts there is no opportunity for us to go food shopping this week as the only time we are both off is tomorrow evening when I will be putting DD (18m) to bed. He will be at work now until probably next week.
The only way I can get the food shopping done will be to have it delivered or go on my own - both of which will cause a row because of his odd obsession with coming shopping.
WWYD ? I have no milk, no sugar, no butter, no potatoes, no lots of things and really do need to go shopping before next Tuesday

Of course we can read Hmm

But again, how controlling is that?

You many NOT have shop bought biscuits...I will bake some and you must eat them.

FFS how much is a cheap packet of biscuits?

VelvetSnow · 22/08/2011 12:39

Laughing my arse off here AnyFucker Grin

NoWayNoHow · 22/08/2011 12:39

Oh for pity's sake - are you genuinely saying that your DH would rather you all went hungry and had no food than go shopping without him?

Seriously??

I know you're a lady, but please go fetch a spade, go into the garden, and dig up your balls from whatever place you buried them. And then go shopping.

tryingtoleave · 22/08/2011 12:39

What kind of a person describes their other half like that? I Would love to hear dh's point of view.

VelvetSnow · 22/08/2011 12:39

My arse is falling off with laughter Grin

DogsBestFriend · 22/08/2011 12:40

OhDearNigel, you indicated on the dog thread here on MN that you're a Police officer...

worraliberty · 22/08/2011 12:40

And I am not controlling, I just do the meal planning and try to do it within a budget. If DH ends up spending £40 on crappy foods (which he does with the greatest of ease" that is quite a lot out of my £250 budget with which I have to feed 5 cats

But that's the point! If you bought him a bloody kiev he wouldn't necessarily feel the need to go shopping with you and fill the trolly with £40 worth of crappy food.

tryingtoleave · 22/08/2011 12:41

(agreeing with worra) - it can be cheaper to buy biscuits than make them.

summertimeblews · 22/08/2011 12:41

what kind of a person allows herself to worry about shopping alone Confused

are you married to norris cole OP?

PhilipJFry · 22/08/2011 12:41

Go shopping. He's wasting the food money on crap and driving up your expenses, all while behaving like a berk.

OhdearNigel · 22/08/2011 12:41

Like what precisely tryingtoleave ? DH will freely admit to being argumentative and arrogant. He is also generous, funny, fiercely loyal, helpful, loving and a great dad. We all have our faults.

mollymole · 22/08/2011 12:42

other

summertimeblews · 22/08/2011 12:42

EricNorthmansMistressOfPotions · 22/08/2011 12:42

Nice idea Tryingtoleave - but some people are shit at budgeting and meal planning, and the OP's H sounds like he is. I always made sure there was food to last the week and provide tasty and health meals and snacks, on the budget I set/we could afford. There would be treats but either home made or limited and saved eg for weekends. My H, on the few occasions he did it, would spend an average of £15 more than I would and would miss things and waste money on expensive shop made cakes etc. So it was my job I am a control freak and love meal planning and shopping on a budget

tryingtoleave · 22/08/2011 12:42

But why doesn't dh go shopping for himself? Has op cut up his cards?

Cheria · 22/08/2011 12:43

It's 2011. I can't believe this question is being asked.

OhdearNigel · 22/08/2011 12:43

"But that's the point! If you bought him a bloody kiev he wouldn't necessarily feel the need to go shopping with you and fill the trolly with £40 worth of crappy food."

The crappy food IS ON TOP OF THE ORDINARY DINNER FOOD. He will eat a tin of frozen condensed milk while I am cooking the dinner. He doesn't have it as a meal - it's snack food. And as we are currently spending about £200 a month more than we bring in we don't have the money to spend on endless cakes and biscuits. He can eat a double pack of bourbon creams in a single sitting

worraliberty · 22/08/2011 12:46

Gives up

Actually, I'm going to Morrissons (seriously)

PM me your address and I'll send the poor fucker a Kiev Grin

EricNorthmansMistressOfPotions · 22/08/2011 12:46

Do people really think this is about kievs and biscuits? This man is controlling, disrespectful and selfish, and not pulling his weight in living within the budget that the family finances dictate. I've lived with a partner who has no idea/doesn't care about living within a budget, I know what it's like.

DogsBestFriend · 22/08/2011 12:46

The money isn't all your DH controls, from the sound of it.

Would you take this sort of crap in your professional life?
