to do the food shopping alone even though DH will be annoyed

My DH never, ever lets me go food shopping on my own. He always insists on coming, I suspect because he wants to fill the trolley up with biscuits and chicken kievs that he knows I won't buy !
We should have gone shopping last week, the cupboards and fridge are looking like mother hubbard's and the cats are having to eat tuna because there is no cat food. However, due to our shifts there is no opportunity for us to go food shopping this week as the only time we are both off is tomorrow evening when I will be putting DD (18m) to bed. He will be at work now until probably next week.
The only way I can get the food shopping done will be to have it delivered or go on my own - both of which will cause a row because of his odd obsession with coming shopping.
WWYD ? I have no milk, no sugar, no butter, no potatoes, no lots of things and really do need to go shopping before next Tuesday

Then pity me, lachesis. And I don't understand it either. But I don't visit much

izzywhizzyletsgetbusy · 22/08/2011 14:17

I'm bursting too Nigel, please put us out of our misery; why do you freeze tins of condensed milk? Do you freeze it in the tin or put it in a freezer bag before it goes in the freezer?

And when it comes out of the freezer do you defrost it before using it?

Don't you find it easier to simply keep tins in the pantry/cupboard or are there other tinned foodstuffs that you freeze? Hmm

BadTasteFlump · 22/08/2011 14:18

People freeze all sorts of crap to make it taste wierd nicer - yoghurt, custard, and ... er yoghurt again.

Salmotrutta · 22/08/2011 14:19

See above izzy -

How, erm, interesting!

OhdearNigel · 22/08/2011 14:19

He puts it in the freezer in the tin as a snacky thing. It sort of hardens up and goes the consistency that it would if it was dulche de leche but without the caramel flavour. Does that explain ?

OP posts:
BadTasteFlump · 22/08/2011 14:19

And does he not realise what all that condensed milk gloop is doing to his probably already knackered arteries?

OhdearNigel · 22/08/2011 14:20

and it is eaten with a spoon straight out of the tin, while still frozen.

Well I never...

OhdearNigel · 22/08/2011 14:21

I doubt he would care anyway, he doesn't really believe that what you put into your body affects how well it runs

Ah, he can defy the laws of nature. The man is a God

OhdearNigel · 22/08/2011 14:27

Anyway, I have to go to work now. Am not abandoning thread in a troll-like manner ;D

Can someone remind me how many O Levels it takes to be a detective? Grin

BadTasteFlump · 22/08/2011 14:28

Ohdear I never let that stop me MNing Smile

fedupofnamechanging · 22/08/2011 14:34

OP, you need to stop asking and arguing and start doing. If he has a complete hissy fit because you've gone shopping without him or moved the bloody litter tray, then tough shit.

Tbh, I'm quite worried about you two being police officers, you both sound a bit unhinged to me.

izzywhizzyletsgetbusy · 22/08/2011 14:34

So nigel, while you've wasted a couple of hours soliciting advice as to whether to fill your bare cupboards on your own initiative or wait for your -controlling twunt of a-- dh to dictate the contents of your supermarket trolley, have you at least organised delivery of the basics from Ocado or similar?

izzywhizzyletsgetbusy · 22/08/2011 14:36

Nice cop/nasty cop karma? Wink

Salmotrutta · 22/08/2011 14:39

I had to come back here for no reason other than I (very, very stupidly Blush) clicked on the cotton bud thread.

It was not good...

switchtvoffdosomelessboring · 22/08/2011 14:53

How do you discover you like frozen condensed milk anyway? Did he put a random assortment of tinned goods in the freezer to test...

Heres a suggestion. Split the food budget, £100 for him, £150 for you and your child. Tell him he can buy whatever shite makes him happy. Go and buy your own shopping. Tell the cats to make themselves useful and go catch some mice.

izzywhizzyletsgetbusy · 22/08/2011 15:08

he doesn't really believe that what you put into your body affects how well it runs

At 17+ stone and feeding his face on a diet of chicken kiev, biscuits, and condensed milk, surely sooner or later his superiors will notice that he can't run?

Salmotrutta · 22/08/2011 15:21

Shame I don't like blood mary's...

Can you freeze wine?

Over the pond you can by frozen tubs of cocktails like Daquiries (sp??).

switchtvoffdosomelessboring · 22/08/2011 15:24

Salmotrutta, you can freeze wine. But it is easier just to finish the bottle.
