I consider myself an active proponent of equality of opportunity and a stern critic of discrimination... and yet I find that I can't identify with many of the viewpoints I encounter on the MN feminism page (and often say so). AIBU?

Would you prefer bolding?

DuelingFanjo · 15/08/2011 13:09

yanbu (re original post) everyone has a right to disagree.
However, depending on what you disagree with you should accept that people will present you with arguments that could change your mind.

Do you agree that smear tests are a tool Men use to sexually abuse Women SAF?

I haven't seen the R&J thread was it that bad?

Very few people generaalise on the feminism section, IMO. BUT it is the reason I steered clear of the seperatist feminism in the end.

HandDivedScallopsrgreat · 15/08/2011 13:12

organicgardener - do you agree with everything in AIBU. I don't, therefore I must conclude that I think everyone in AIBU is unreasonable and frothy at the mouth.

ProfessionallyOffendedGoblin · 15/08/2011 13:12

'do you understand what the age of consent means?'

Rather abrupt, but yes I do.
The thing that bothered me was that the prosecution for under age sex was to be unequal, that the boy would be jailed and the girl wrapped in rose petals and guarded until maturity.
If under age sex is a crime, then the punishment for mutually consenting offenders should be equal.
And if a 17 year old female has sex with a 15 year old boy, she should be jailed for rape.

'I haven't seen the R&J thread was it that bad?'
Yes, it really was.
Maryz is an amazing person who has a huge amount of experience in challenging situations and an endless capacity for helping others. The fact that she chose to hide the board and I didn't says more about her maturity and my pigheadedness than anything else.

organicgardener · 15/08/2011 13:15

HandDivedScallopsrgreat

I didn't start this thread but someone asked for an example which I gave.

Stating also that the FEM section had a lot of valid points with the threads.

And show me where I mentioned "Frothy"?

Thank you.

OG, are you going to ask every Feminist poster what their take on that individual thread is, and then make your judgement on whether you will take them "earnestly" in the future ?

you are a funny sausage Grin

HandDivedScallopsrgreat · 15/08/2011 13:16

Never said you did mention frothy. I just don't get the logic that feminists are bid bag wolves because of a couple of very controversial threads.

ProfessionallyOffendedGoblin · 15/08/2011 13:16

You'd better leave anyway Maryz, otherwise there'll be accusations of sock puppetry and whatnot.
See you on the SN boards, or on the teens sections!

organicgardener · 15/08/2011 13:17

Why are people condoning jailtime for any kids that have underage sex?

For example two 15 year olds?

HandDivedScallopsrgreat · 15/08/2011 13:17

Agree AF - seems very much like we have to pass some kind of test - a bit like the OP did in starting a controversial thread last night Hmm

AnyFucker · 15/08/2011 13:18

saf, you are clearly deranged

Brad Pitt is eminently fanciable

SaF, the legal age if consent is currently 16.
Anyone who has sex under the age of 16 is breaking the law, regardless of their gender and in the interests of equality should be treated in the same way by the law. Whatever the appropriate response is deemed to be.
