I'm Estonian, husband is English. Living in England, probably for the foreseeable future as he just can't get to grips with the Estonian language.

MoominsAreScary · 14/08/2011 11:53

English with a bit of Irish , dp is Irish , live in the midlands

Mandy2003 · 14/08/2011 12:02

Paternal grandparents English and Irish/Scottish
Maternal grandparents Australian with Irish, German and Barbadian roots!

Not sure what that makes me?

emmanumber3 · 14/08/2011 12:11

I'm English - although really 7/8 English & 1/8 Welsh (great-grandfather) and my father was born in Japan (although to English parents).

DH is "English to the core" - in fact his ancestors can't be traced any further afield than Birmingham at all.

youmustbeyolking · 14/08/2011 12:16

DH is Spanish and I am English. We live in London.

somewherewest · 14/08/2011 12:58

I'm Irish living in England, and the only remotely exotic thing in my family tree is a sliver of Jewish step ancestry. My husband is half English, half Welsh, but identifies as Welsh, despite having grown up in England. Being good Celts we've agreed that the unborn DC can support either Wales or Ireland but not England Grin.

somewherewest · 14/08/2011 13:03

"My gran was Welsh and had very dark/olive skin, as does my mum - people often ask if she's Greek or Italian - she's never needed suncream (wish I could say the same). What's that about then?"

I don't think thats actually unusual in parts of Wales. A fair number of Welsh people seem to have quite a dark colouring. Which reminds me of a hilarious Louis Theroux programme where he met a bunch of US black supremacists who were convinced that Tom Jones was actually black.

FreudianSlipper · 14/08/2011 13:06

Dad is from Sri Lanka, very mixed with sinhalese and european (dutch, irish, portuguese).

Mum is english her grandparents were german jews (though they became CofE and it was always denied they were jewish but they didn't change their very jewish name)

Lily311 · 14/08/2011 13:07

ComradeJing · 14/08/2011 13:12

Lived in India for 7 years and have lived in Beijing for 7 too.

Kveta · 14/08/2011 13:14

I'm 0.75 English, 0.25 Scottish, born in Scotland.
DH is 0.5 Czech, 0.5 Yugoslavian (he isn't sure which part of the former Yugoslavia his GPs came from, as it was during the war, which they refused to talk about). born in Czech Rep.

DS is therefore full of hybrid vigour :o

TheHumanCatapult · 14/08/2011 13:19

I have English, Jewish and Romaney blood in me. DH is english and the dcs are the same as me but with more English blood.

marriedinwhite · 14/08/2011 15:36

1/4 Russian, 1/4 English, 1/8 Irish, 1/8 German, 1/8 Portugese, 1/8 Spanish. And very, very English to boot. My mother and I were born in the UK, as was my maternal grandmother; my father was born in Germany and came to England with Kinder Transport in WWII. Add DH into the mix and you get: 6/8 English (1/4 of that traceable back to Anglo Saxon), 1/8 French and 1/8 Welsh.

JessKM · 14/08/2011 15:39
