My family are a boring lot!!

TottWriter · 13/08/2011 23:20

Boring English and Welsh family for the most part, though my nan's family come from.... somewhere. We don't know where, but her maiden name is not English, and is probably a corruption of something Italian or Spanish. Apparently her father was mistaken for a foreigner during WWII.

I feel very boring; I'm English, born in west midlands. Both my parents are English and my OH is English (just - he's from the welsh borders). We haven't got any exciting origins either so far as we know although DD thinks his GD was Irish but has no evidence!

LetUsPrey · 13/08/2011 23:26

I'm English but a mix of Lancashire and Yorkshire. DH is Scottish. His great great great grandad (might be another great but I'm not sure) was Italian.

Born in England, mum's white British, dad's 3/4 black, 1/4 white (he was born here too), dad's parents are from Jamaica and I can trace my ancestry on my grandmother's side back to the 15th century. My great grandfather so many times removed and his heirs were the Lords Falconer of Halkerton. We're poor as fuck though, of course Hmm

faverolles · 13/08/2011 23:41

I'm half English half Swiss.

hester · 13/08/2011 23:41

Good point, Jess. Actually, the two vets at our local practice did have quite an argument about her breed, with one saying tabby and the other Bengal Tiger or something...

So, rewind: our cat is Indian Grin

Love this thread!

Am of Dutch descent, grew up in UK, married an African, have a beautiful son from him (no longer together).
Became a travel junkie because of it. (growing up everywhere, expat parents).

Threads like this only reinforce we are one big human family!

Welsh, living in Wales. Born in Wales to Welsh parents and Welsh grandparents and Welsh great-grandparents and Welsh great-great-grandparents. There's lovely :o

DH is originally from Dorset but has lived in Wales for nearly 20 years. He does have Irish, Welsh and Scottish heritage way back on his mother's side though.

hester · 13/08/2011 23:44

My grandmother has had a colourful life, producing many children of various ethnic origins and skin colours, all raised on the poverty line. She likes to think of herself as dead posh, though, and always used to tell us that her father (who died when she was little) was a Lord and the youngest headmaster in the country.

Last year we did our own research. 'Lord Frederick' was actually plain Freddie, did two stints in the clink and tutored a few kids in his own front room. Poor Gran Grin
