DH was born in London to Irish parents and grew up in Ireland.

I'm 100% Kiwi. We live in NZ.

The DC have New Zealand, Irish and British citizenship.

rockinhippy · 14/08/2011 01:45

Born a Geordie, always a Geordie Grin though now live South & you'd probably never know it from speaking to me -

So English though & through, though my Paternal Grandad was of Irish descent & my Grandma of Welsh, so my Dads side, me included got the Welsh dark colouring & I have been accused of been Greek many a time Confused

DH is also from the North East, with a bit of Scottish in the mix

NorksAkimbo · 14/08/2011 01:53

I was born and raised in the USA by American parents. Lived there until I met British DH, and we live in England now, and I will become a British citizen next week!
So, not terribly exotic, but I'll be a dual national soon!

TidyDancer · 14/08/2011 01:54

Rockinhippy - my uncle regularly gets accused of the same! He is entirely Welsh, not an ounce of Greek in him, yet it happens repeatedly! What is that all about?!

babeinthewood · 14/08/2011 01:56

Im half Irish Half English, Dh is english

My Mum is English, My dad is Irish.

rockinhippy · 14/08/2011 02:05

TidyDancer · 14/08/2011 02:09

It's such a bizarre comparison. I am so glad I came across your post though, at least I know it happens to others!

theoldtrout01876 · 14/08/2011 02:24

kiwijesta · 14/08/2011 02:44

I'm a NZer with 3 Scottish great-grandparents and while DH was born in England he immigrated as a baby so considers himself a Kiwi too. DD was born in England and is both!

lady007pink · 14/08/2011 05:38

lady007pink · 14/08/2011 05:42

A lot of Mumsnetters have very interesting mixes of nationalities! I feel boring...

CheerfulYank · 14/08/2011 05:51

Born in the US (Ohio), moved to Minnesota when I was 8 and live there still. Finnish, Dutch, Native American (Blackfoot tribe), and a smidge of German and Irish.

Bulmers · 14/08/2011 06:23

English, but with 25% German thrown in.
DH Canadian
We live in the Middle East.

LtEveDallas · 14/08/2011 06:47

I'm English up as far as my great grandparents, but after that, who knows? My dad's GPs were Travellers and babies weren't always registered. We tried to do a family tree once, but got stuck when dads brother remembered 2 relatives that no-one else had heard of...we found one registered, but the other ?? When I visited possible relatives on a permanent site I was welcomed and told I was the spit of Xxx and Xxx, but we didn't know we were related to them! My mum says she's English, but her GGps were Welsh...So I'm probably a Mutt.

DH is Welsh, born in Wales but his bio father (who buggered off when he was 18mths) was either S African or from St Helena. MIL tells confusing stories. DH is 'swarthy', and looks mediterranean (Greek / Turkish?) with a tan. DH found a photo of his BD years ago and says he looked mixed race but who knows and MIL isn't saying.

DD born in Germany, but Welsh.

(the dog's Welsh too)

Bulmers · 14/08/2011 07:01

My dog's Arabic :o

Changing2011 · 14/08/2011 08:02

Born in England, my father is half Scottish half IRish, my mother was ENglish. DP is ENglish and my DD and baby on the way will both be English. And proud!

vividgingerchilli · 14/08/2011 08:05

English through and through, would have been American if it wasn't for a decision 16 generations or so ago.

Scarletbanner · 14/08/2011 08:23

Born in Yorkshire, dad Irish, mum born in Uk to Irish parents. I consider myself Yorkshire Irish but not English. Might also have been American if Us citizen grandmother hadn't returned to Ireland. DH Geordie with German.

legspinner · 14/08/2011 08:29

Me: English with a bit of Welsh thrown in
DH: Kiwi with English and German ancestors
DCs: Kiwis but will also have UK citizenship.

Gincognito · 14/08/2011 08:32

Dh is Japanese on both sides with a gabillion generations going back into the mists of time.

HairyBeaver · 14/08/2011 08:45

I'm English, still live in the small cambridgeshire town I was born in, with romany gypsies on my (m) nans side somewhere.

My grandads nan (mothers side) was a squar (sp) in the apachie (sp) native american tribe. My grandad can do healing and make dream catchers etc.

My DF was born and breed in a little town in Essex to londoner parents.

So kids are white english with a smidge of native american and gypsie lol.

My DSS is half irish and lives in Balbriggon, county Dublin.
