An establishment like 'Hooters' is pathetic and wrong?

OP posts:
BimboNo5 · 06/08/2011 09:54

Yes but you are a porn apologist Squeaky so you aren't going to see the point really are you? Thats fine but what right do you have to tell others they shouldn't be bothered or have a different view about it?

BimboNo5 · 06/08/2011 09:54

Cogito- do Hooters employ men?

OP posts:
CogitoErgoSometimes · 06/08/2011 09:56

I've no idea.

ThePiperAtTheGatesOfDawn · 06/08/2011 09:56

Didnt this topic run a few months back?

BimboNo5 · 06/08/2011 09:56

No they employ 'hooters girls' for waiting staff anyway. Hence my point of sexism.

BimboNo5 · 06/08/2011 09:57

Ive no idea Piper, I do apologise if I didnt notice and used my free will to start another thread about it!

If girls choose to work there, who are you Bimbo to tell them they shouldn't? I thought feminism was all about women having equality and choice. They can chose to work there or not work there. I can chose to visit there or not visit there. There are similar establishments where men work - they can chose to work there or not work there and I can chose to visit or not visit. Seems pretty equal to me and given everyone gets a free choice in it I can't see the problem.

I don't like Marmalade but other people do and them doing so doens't impact on me. I just chose not to eat it and respect their choice to eat it.

I really find the strange brand of "feminism" where women tell other women their choices are invalid, look down on them and suggest they were not capable of making the choices they made free of the coercion of men to be a lot of patronising tosh really.

squeakytoy · 06/08/2011 10:01

Yes but you are a porn apologist Squeaky

Am I? Grin

Excellent. I do love random name calling on a Saturday morning.

Funny though, as I remember us both posting on a thread a couple of months ago, where you were saying pole dancing was ok.

CogitoErgoSometimes · 06/08/2011 10:01

I expect the Tiller Girls only employ women as well. I don't think anyone's going to argue against you that it's sexist or tacky. That appears to be their USP. However, I suspect that it's one of those novelty import formats that will get tired pretty quickly. We grew out of Benny Hill & Carry on Films eventually....

squeakytoy · 06/08/2011 10:02

Very well said Catgirl.

Kayano · 06/08/2011 10:06

Bimbo those women chose to be objectified themselves by working there. They know what kindle place it is prior to employment

Therefore.... I don't care and let them get on with it. Each to their own

catgirl1976 · 06/08/2011 10:07

:) Thanks Squeaky.

BimboNo5 · 06/08/2011 10:25

Just because 'women choose to do it' does not mean them going along with the objectifying and sexualising of women does not harm others in society. It just serves to reinforce the idea women are only as good as they look, there to please the men by being ready to 'serve' attractive and pleased about it.

OP posts:
catgirl1976 · 06/08/2011 10:27

But in an equal society women get to make their own choices. Not just the choices that you agree with Bimbo or the choices you believe don't harm others. Their OWN choices - whether "men" "society" or "you" like them or not. That's feminism. Not judging the choices other women make and trying to invalidate them.

BimboNo5 · 06/08/2011 10:27

Benny Hill and Carry on were way back when...this sets equality back years as far as im concerned. Yet women always tend to whine they are not taken seriously...its a bizzare world at times.

OP posts:
BimboNo5 · 06/08/2011 10:28

In an equal society Catgirl men and women are able to apply for the same jobs they are more than capable of doing. Can you explain how this concept brings equality please?

OP posts:
catgirl1976 · 06/08/2011 10:31

There are the same sorts of places where men can work Bimbo. Exactly the same.

MadameLupino · 06/08/2011 10:33

They do employ men - or they do in the US, as managers. I watched a documentary so it must be true Grin. Pretty sleazy men, power tripping and getting the women to 'win' certain working hours by playing faintly pervy games.

Says it all really.

hr100 · 06/08/2011 10:35

I go for drinks in there from time to time and like it to be honest. You get excellent service and loads of sport on all the screens. Oh and the food is great.

EssentialFattyAcid · 06/08/2011 10:36

BimboNo5 "Just because 'women choose to do it' does not mean them going along with the objectifying and sexualising of women does not harm others in society."

Excellent point you make here.

catgirl1976 · 06/08/2011 10:38

Ah - so women can only make choices you agree with?

squeakytoy · 06/08/2011 10:39

Sex appeal is legal, and it sells, throughout the world, in various forms. If women choose to use the fact that they are attractive to earn money, that is their choice.

I suppose as an adult woman with mature opinions it doesn't trouble me too much. I don't like the concept and I wouldn't go there myself but I do agree with teh argument about making your own choices, or at least me making mine.

What bothers me is the conversation I had with my 6 year old after she saw a pic of one of these girls in the paper:

"Why is she dressed like that?" It's her uniform
"but why is her top so tight" that's just the way they are
(giggling) "you can see her boobs" yes I suppose you can
"do people like that" erm Confused
"do they have to wear that" yes I gues so Confused
"can I wear that when I am a big girl"

etc etc

Kind of put it in a different light for me to be honest
