I went into toysrus yesterday and purchased an elonex etouch tablet pc. for DS1 and DS2 to use.

I set it up when I got home and found it to have a history which contained porn sites - therefore it was preowned.

I returned to the store and got a replacement.

I set it up and again have found not only a web page history of porn sites but downloads a well.

They are telling me they didn't know these had been returned as there is no record of them being which leads me to the conclusion that a staff member is using them.

So please if you buy this item please do check the history first!!!

I am doing an interview tomorrow with a local paper.

It's good that the maufacturers are responding well but it's not their problem if it happened in the shop, is it? Mind you, maybe it happened before it got to the shop.

BoE, I am dealing with TRU seperatly. They still need to answer to Elonex as to why there is porn on 2 of the devices. They also need to respond to the report which atm their response was "No comment"

I will be contacting TRU hq again tomorrow after I have heard from Elonex again.

Good for you, following this up OP. I suspect use of gadgets before purchase happens more than we would all suspect.

I bought DH a camera a couple of years ago from Currys and we found pics of a young woman and a new baby on it, looked like pics taken in hospital when baby was just born. Currys insisted it was a new camera Hmm and had no idea how these pics had got on it but gave us a new one and some free accessories as a goodwill gesture

omg it went out this morning and I have now had 3 calls from agencies who write for the nationals and consumer magazines who want to take the story on.

Toysrus are saying it was never returned and therefore imho that means that a staff member has done this.

Glad to hear that you might be getting somewhere with your complaint.

What do you mean by TRU are saying it was never returned - are they now denying that you complained in the first case ?

Even if the retailer is at fault, it is still the manufacturer's problem. They have a brand reputation to maintain and Toys R Us are dragging their name into the papers.

Unfortunately Toys R Us are such big buyers in the toy industry Elonex won't have much choice but to keep selling through them.

It's good to see Elonex are doing the right thing by you though TLE.

I have had toysrus on the phone this afternoon giving me a real bollocking for contacting the manufacturers. And telling me that although I have visual proof that the sites were on there a month ago there is no proof i diidn't put them on there...errr how about I didn't buy it until Tuesday?

My guess is that someone somewhere in Elonex has been on to the buyers at TrU and given them grief about it being bad for Elonex and almost guaranteed to be because of some person at TrU in your local branch.

Was the call from the local shop or HO ? My guess is the local store were on to you (as HO gave them a verbal bashing, but rather than take it lying down, they are wanting to try to brush it off).

Your point about only having bought it on Tuesday blows out their 'customer must have done it' suggestion. I think, as HD says, you've rattled them, as the complaint is not just you vs TrU, but they're getting Elonex and the media asking about this too.

Yikes! I don't like that they called you up and had a go at you, that's real bullying behaviour of TrU.

Going to the media IMO is a really good move - if they're acting like this, it's because no-one has stopped them.
