I went into toysrus yesterday and purchased an elonex etouch tablet pc. for DS1 and DS2 to use.

I set it up when I got home and found it to have a history which contained porn sites - therefore it was preowned.

I returned to the store and got a replacement.

I set it up and again have found not only a web page history of porn sites but downloads a well.

They are telling me they didn't know these had been returned as there is no record of them being which leads me to the conclusion that a staff member is using them.

So please if you buy this item please do check the history first!!!

I am doing an interview tomorrow with a local paper.

Sorry I missed your reply.

Ok well good luck with the interview today Smile

TheLadyEvenstar · 28/07/2011 10:41

Worra, just did it over the phone. Reporter now calling the store for their comment.

OP posts:
TheMonster · 28/07/2011 10:56

I bet they don't comment. That's if anyone answers the phone!

HoneyDuke · 28/07/2011 11:01

Yes, reality you are the only one. I can't see how the op's income is relevant.

RalphGnu · 28/07/2011 11:11

FFS, the OP has found porn on a device she bought for her child. What the shitting hell does her income have to do with it?

HeadfirstForHalos · 28/07/2011 11:15

Thats's awful! It's not all that uncommon either, 2 friends of mine have bought "new" laptops recently that had already been used to download porn :S

TheLadyEvenstar · 28/07/2011 11:17

BoE, Well we'll see when the report comes out tomorrow. I also contacted the manufacturors (sp) to get their input, was advised by reporter I should contact police as well due to the download of "Young teens play hard" and such like so that they can establish where it has come from. either in store or via a customer.

OP posts:
LoveBeingAtHomeOnMyOwn · 28/07/2011 11:27

Was wondering why the op was getting a hard time then saw who it was. Ever since the ops posts are a different colour I don't really notice whose posting.

TheLadyEvenstar · 28/07/2011 11:41

FFS why does it matter who I am? I was trying to give a warning to look out for inappropriate contect on these devices.
BUT oh no because when I am stressed with life I put threads up having a moan and people don't agree with me then it can't be a good thing if I am giving advice

OP posts:
TheLadyEvenstar · 28/07/2011 11:48

I can only assume those giving me a hard time would be happy for their children to view pornographic content.

Because my past, or financial situation are fuck all to do with this nor are the previous threads about my son or my relationship.

OP posts:
LoveBeingAtHomeOnMyOwn · 28/07/2011 11:56

Calm down that was the point I was making.

TheLadyEvenstar · 28/07/2011 12:03

LBAHOMO, I was not directing that at you.

I am sick to death of when I put a thread up every frigging thing about my previous threads are brought into it. I have fucked up in the past, done things wrong, took a long time to get to the point where I know why my son behaves the way he does, kissed someone else when P and I were splitting up, told people I don't claim benefits - as I am not entitled to them etc but all of that is irrelevant to this thread. Yet things had to be brought up again Hmm

I was trying to give some friendly advice as I have had 2 of these tablets from the same store with pornographic content on. I would seriously hate for some unsuspecting parent to purchase one of these give it to their child and the child to find this content.

OP posts:
handsomeharry · 28/07/2011 12:52

I think it was a good thing that you did start the thread. I think I must be very naive because I would have presumed that if I had bought something 'big' like a laptop or iphone that it would not have been used ro even touched by anyone in the shop.

Like you I would most probably have been minded to blame my DS.

Thanks TLE. Smile

ragged · 28/07/2011 12:53

Change your talk name TLE, simples!

handsomeharry · 28/07/2011 12:55

I also think that would be a good idea!

TheBigJessie · 28/07/2011 13:02

I also think publicising this was a really good thing.

You may have saved a child/teen from a great deal of unpleasantness, and some parents from causing their child to bear them life-long resentment.

bibbitybobbityhat · 28/07/2011 13:07

Thanks for the warning Tles. That is my local Toysrus store, too, and I would never have dreamed of checking that gadgets like that hadn't been used before. And by doing the story in the paper the message will get out to a far wider readership than whoever happens to be logged on to this little forum this lunchtime. I will look out for you in SLP tomorrow or Tuesday Smile.

TheLadyEvenstar · 28/07/2011 13:35

I have just heard back from the manufacturers who have said

"We would very much like to contact you to discuss this more fully. We have now instigated our internal investigation process to enable us to track and verify the source of any problems that may be prevalent but would be keen to contact you by phone to help us in our information gathering. If you are uncomfortable talking via phone then I am more than happy to send you a questionnaire which will help in our efforts to fully investigate this.

If acceptable to you we would also require the unit so that we can directly test and verify the device and its system software, we will of course fully replace this device and arrange pickup and replacement at our expense.

Can I assure you that here at Elonex ensuring our customers are delighted with their purchase is of paramount concern we are very keen to ensure that your experience of using an Elonex product is a positive one."

At least they are being reasonable.

OP posts:
bibbitybobbityhat · 28/07/2011 14:25

Yes, it does sound like they are taking it seriously (a shame their letter is so badly written and full of ghastly overblown language, but there).

TheLadyEvenstar · 28/07/2011 14:59

Bibbity, ghastly overblown language makes them sound professional Wink

They are discussing what they can do to restore my faith in the product and compensate DC and myself.

I have told them all I want is to ensure this doesn't happen to anyone else.

OP posts:
Quenelle · 28/07/2011 15:14

That's good news TLE. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

vogonmothership · 28/07/2011 15:41

I really would never have thought to check anything like that. Scary. Thank you for bringing it to our attention

ThatVikRinA22 · 28/07/2011 15:46

i dont know of any of your other threads TLE, but if you are getting judged because of them (and wrongly imo when this has nothing to do with anything thats happened before) i would namechange.

i think its a good thing that you have highlighted this problem, its a kids toy sold by a toy shop, it shouldnt contain porn, simple as that!

TheLadyEvenstar · 28/07/2011 15:52

I am trying to think of a new name Hmm although I kinda like TLES have had it a while.

OP posts:
handsomeharry · 28/07/2011 16:09

It's great when you have a name you really like but if you're getting hassle a name change might be for the best.

I loved my old name and am not really fond of this one but am glad I changed it.

Fresh starts can be really positive.
