AnyFucker · 23/07/2011 23:43

I haven't had a shower today

I feel fine

mind you, I have had the better part of a bottle of nice red, so perhaps i am deluded pissed

and if DH wasn't already asleep, he would be shagging me with relish Smile

megapixie · 23/07/2011 23:44

Now, I usually have a shower every night. This because I do not usually get too hot or sweaty at night to get 'dirty' again, but at the end of a day I feel mucky going to bed having not washed.

After reading this thread and thinking 'hey, I havent done anything today. I'll just have a quick wash and get in bed.' OMG never again. I have eczema, especially if I dont moisturize every day. It took me just as long faffing around 'washing' as if I had a shower. I'm now in bed and don't feel as clean OR moisturized.

DP ain't getting any tonight! I will tell him to blaim you lot.

This will shock the daily washers and they probably won't believe me anyway, but I've never got into the habit of washing DS's hair as I know that the more you wash it the more you need to, so I only wash it when it looks or feels like it needs it. At he moment I guess I wash his hair about every 1.5 weeks or so. (I do bath him most days as it's part of his bedtime wind-down).

Before you imaging a greasy haired child think again! My DS has beautiful curly locks which aren't greasy in the slightest. We are always getting compliments from random strangers and people I know about how gorgeous his hair is.

I should say perhaps that we live in a small town by the sea. I washed his hair more often when we live in London because it gets dirty quicker in the big smoke.

threefeethighandrising · 24/07/2011 00:06

Glad to hear it spiderlegs Grin

Think I might give trying to shock educate the clean freaks a rest for a bit.

TigerseyeMum · 24/07/2011 00:08

I bath or shower every other day and I have a very keen sense of smell, and I don't smell at all unless it is exceptionally hot or I have been exercising a lot.

Skin (and hair and bits) are best left to maintain natural PH and oil levels.Washing them (especially with products containing SLS) is a bad idea as it strips away those oils.

If I washed every day (ie showered) my skin would fall off from dryness. I also have long curly dry hair and that would be a nightmare washed every day.

I must be a dirty mare though cos unless they are niffy I reuse tops and bottoms too. Not undies though.

GothAnneGeddes · 24/07/2011 00:12

Where DH is from, water isn't the plentiful resourse it is here, so people shower 1 or 2 x a week. However, they tend to have inside and outside clothes and they wash with water after using the loo so do not smell.

brighthair · 24/07/2011 00:16

I don't shower every day. If I've been at work on a day shift, I will have had a bath the day before, go to work, and not have one before bed as I know I will be riding in the morning and to me there is absolutely no point in washing again when I don't smell, but will do after riding!
I know when I am sweaty and smelly like after the gym or riding or when it's hot, so I wash. But if I've been sat in an air con office or lounging around at home, I don't

nellie02 · 24/07/2011 00:24

I'm not very sweaty, but I do start to smell at the end if each day so it's a shower every morning for me. I also have fine curly hair which needs washing every day (and no, it doesn't need washing less often if I don't wash it daily, it has been this way since I was a child).

But although I'm a shower every morning person, I don't always (horror of horrors) shower after the gym or a run. I'm quite happy to wait until the morning, the smell's not that bad!

I would say that I'm pretty active, even with an office job, which might explain the smelliness!

spiderslegs · 24/07/2011 00:29

Three clean-freaks are generally so because a clenched arse is hard to cleanse.....

Solo · 24/07/2011 00:37

Threefeethigh My Dd has extremely curly, dryish hair and it is washed usually only once every three weeks, though could easily go longer as it's never dirty.

madhattershouse · 24/07/2011 00:43

okay..I will be honest! Once a week is enough, I'm not a sweater and I don't have oily hair. I once (due to arthritis in the neck) went 4 weeks without washing my hair. It wasn't oily and didn't smell. I think that the obsession with showering is wrong..we are lucky to get water on tap but use it like there is never an end...hosepipe bans and standpipes may be too long for some to remember but for those that do water it a prescious resource and we should treat it as such! As a child we were taught that washing too often was a waste and that we should share bathwater, now I see people wailing that a person that bathes less than once a day is unclean!! Sad

maypole1 · 24/07/2011 00:50

Sorry buts its nasty if you don't wash, shower, bath or strip wash when your on your period you fanny will stink and any one who says otherwise is a liar

Because it sure won't smell of roses

There are a lot of people obsessed with showering (my DH included - he sometimes has x3 a day).

It is bad for one's skin.

I shower every other day. Tis more than enough, unless have done sport or vigorous work (rarely Blush)

DC bathe once a week, if lucky.

eslteacher · 24/07/2011 00:56

I'm in the every-other-day camp. Largely due to morning laziness.

But, supported by the fact my DP had a consultation with a dermatologist about something or other, and was told that for many people it's better for their skin to shower every other day rather than every day. It depends on your skin type and your propensity to sweat apparently.

I used to work with a guy who stunk to high heaven, and it was unfortunately my job to tell him that he was making the office a really unpleasant working environment for everyone else. He swore blind that he already showered every morning, used a medicated deodarant etc. I believed he was telling the truth. Thankfully I left soon after, but I continue to feel really sorry for him...and his colleagues...

maypole1 · 24/07/2011 00:57

So you don't wash after sex on when on period if they fall on days when your not due in shower yuk

Dorje · 24/07/2011 01:00

Tee hee, this is hilarious - people used to reek years ago with their once weekly / yearly bathe - and believe me, people do reek if they don't wash every day.
We get used to our own smells, and after a while don't notice how we smell (think of wearing perfume - after an hour you don't notice it)

However, if you're immune to your own whiffy pits and bits, believe me, others aren't, and they do smell you. Maybe that's why we love our dogs so much - they love our whiffs Blush and still love us!
