Naggy and bossy at the same time. And so tribal.

What traditional 'working class' areas would they be then?

Clapham? - Camden?

I don't want to get into an argument over feminism - I'm just sick of men being blamed for everything.
A) If he wants to marry you he wants to own you and treat you like a domestic slave for ever - no, maybe he just loves you and wants to spend the rest of his life with you.

B) All pornography is made by disgusting filthy men for other disgusting filthy men, and all women are forced into it - one of the biggest porn areas is 'home movies' - girls are filming 'themselves' and sticking it on YouTube - and not even getting paid! how can you blame that on men?

I could go on but I'm sure I've bored you enough already.

SWC; I'm not talking about the NOTW phone hacking scandal - I'm talking about the views certain feminists hold about men in general - Ie; wouldn't it be great if men didn't exist at all.

DontCallMePeanut · 22/07/2011 11:20

No, no... Any paper in the past gawd knows how many years blames women...

"Another woman murdered by her husband... but she was having an affair, so she kinda deserved it"

"Another woman reports a rape... But she was kinda asking for it..."

"The country is in financial ruin... It's women's fault for having kids"

I could go on for ages.

What newspapers say this?

DontCallMePeanut · 22/07/2011 11:34

Ditto...

How many times do we need to explain this? Misandry is not feminism.

Open a paper and you'll see, TD. They may not say it directly, but they imply it.

sunshineandbooks · 22/07/2011 11:51

There have been a few high-profile cases about partner murder recently. In all the cases where the man has killed his wife and children, there has been some considerable investigation in the media report to show how the poor man was under considerable pressure - money etc. All attempts to mitigate his behaviour even if not actually excusing it. Contrast this to cases where the wife has killed her partner (which is 4x less common) and no such attempt is made. In fact she is often caricatured as some deranged harpy.

Rape - DSK is just a recent example. All the women who made complaints against him have been demonised/humiliated by the press - until the critical mass point was reached where there are no so many of them that it's impossible to ignore the fact that this man is a sexual predator.

The Fawcett society report showed conclusively that the Coalition cuts were disproportionately affecting women. The Coalition didn't deny the conclusions BTW, they simply changed the rules so that the report didn't have to be taken into account. Women rely far more heavily than men on local services and benefits (because more women are poor and women are the ones mainly responsible for children). So when the government goes on about the welfare state and 'entitlement' culture, they mean far more women than men, especially those with children. Against this backdrop include Daily Mail articles about single mothers with flatscreen TVs etc (with a tiny, tiny note at the bottom saying that the flatscreen TV was bought on credit, not with benefits), and you don't have to look far to see the misogyny in the press.

filthyfunkproject · 22/07/2011 11:56

DSK may well be a bit of a sexual predator who pays women to have consensual sex with him - that doesn't make him a rapist.

TartyDoris · 22/07/2011 12:09

I believe more women than men buy newspapers nowadays.

There are certainly female biased double standards in the media as well. Women that have affairs are justified somehow, whereas men are branded "love rats" etc.

DontCallMePeanut · 22/07/2011 12:17

For the most part, the media is biased against women, even though they're the main audience. It's this thing called the Male Gaze. They portray women how they believe Men want to perceive women.

DSK is accused of rape, by at least two women. THAT makes him a rapist... Unless you're going to tell me both women are lying?

scottishmummy · 22/07/2011 12:18

maid in dsk case is being pilloried for inaccuracies in the rape allegation
if she has lied it is worthy of comment and will be outrageous

scottishmummy · 22/07/2011 12:21

peanut, dsk has never been found guilty of rape
certainly allegation made but not proven - so as vile as he appears to be cannot definitely say he is rapist. cant pick and chose trial by media and rumour just because dont like someone

filthyfunkproject · 22/07/2011 12:21

The Fawcett society must have forgotten about the industrial revolution and the miners strike - and plenty of other examples where men have been the 'victims'
