That's it really. And to hope that the rest of Murdoch's grubby empire gets the same treatment. The MPs don't appear to be cared of Rupert any more.

YANBU. I think it will be a pretty unanimous thread.

MotherPanda · 07/07/2011 19:16

I'm going to ask a very ignorant question - but what is Schadenfreude? Blush

Ilythia · 07/07/2011 19:16

YABU to only feel a hint.

Butit's a matter of weeks before the sunday sun. Still don't trust murdoch, it's like he's thought 'what is the least I can do to get this shit over with?'

suzikettles · 07/07/2011 19:16

Let's see if they allow Murdoch to wipe the slate clean with his sacrifice of the NOTW before we decide that MPs aren't scared any more.

It'll have been a great deal for him if they do, and I'm not holding my breath.

nethunsreject · 07/07/2011 19:17

yanbu

Batteryhuman · 07/07/2011 19:17

Pleasure derived from the misfortunes of others.

And should say "scared" not "cared"

Schadenfreude - such a great word. It's taking pleasure in someone else's misfortune (from the German).

MadEyeMoodyBra · 07/07/2011 19:18

x post sorry.

Batteryhuman · 07/07/2011 19:18

Come on LongFingerNails what's your view of the Guardian's role in this?

YANBU but NoTW closing down is just a shrewd business move by Murdoch and not enough by a very long chalk

Ilythia · 07/07/2011 19:19

I liked 'cared' I thought you meant as in enamoured, as in they aren't
Or something

PastyKensit · 07/07/2011 19:24

I'm sure the NoTW employees who have lost their jobs (and their families) will appreciate the OP's sentiments.

MrsCog · 07/07/2011 19:27

YANBU but although I would doubt the Guardian is involved in anything as terrible as phone hacking, don't forget that all journalists are pretty unscruplous - I despise most of our media in this country!

BupcakesandCunting · 07/07/2011 19:28

Yeah it's a shame that for the NOTW people who've lost their jobs, just like it was a shame for all of those Nazi soldiers getting made redundant when the concentration camps shut down.

LolaRennt · 07/07/2011 19:28

Patty the NOTW employees have been told they will be offered work wlse where in the company. MOst likely in a renamed version of the exact same sunday newspaper

wearenotinkansas · 07/07/2011 19:30

ha ha! me too. Although like PatsyKensit do feel sorry for the people losing their jobs.

LineRunner · 07/07/2011 19:37

It's all to protect Cameron.

Shallishanti · 07/07/2011 19:42

YADNBU
but, as others have said, I think it's probably just a cynical sacrifice which Murdoch can well afford. Let's see if there's a change of attitude in the other papers he owns

MotherPanda · 07/07/2011 19:42

ooh - that is a nice word :)

aquashiv · 07/07/2011 19:43

YANBA

I am delighted and disgusted in equal measure..

Ashamed he has such a hold over the British publics views. His papers ability to change the mood of the country with how chooses to spin a story.

Cameron is good friends with the editor am sure he will protect her.

I would like to see the little weasal get out of this one.

chubsasaurus · 07/07/2011 19:44

THe actions of those involved in phone hacking are unforgivable.

Murdoch himself is a great man. He provides THOUSANDS of jobs (sadly no longer for the NOTW journos) and gives millions upon millions to charity.

chubsasaurus · 07/07/2011 19:45

also YABU to read the Guardian Grin

catgirl1976 · 07/07/2011 19:45

Wow. Really?

moondog · 07/07/2011 19:46

Cameron has little protection. He was very stupid to hang out with and emply these people. The Telegraph is scathing about his actions.
