AIBU to light a bonfire even though next doors left her washing out?

Manshape knocked at hers earlier and told her that he was having a bonfire this evening. She pulled her face and said she'd take her washing in later.

It's still out, and tbh, i don't think she's any intention of taking it in at all.

Manshapes reluctant to light the fire, but i say go for it - she doesn't bother telling us when she's having a bonfire wether i've washing out or not, at least he gave her fair warning.

So AIBU to go ahead and light it?

Light it! She should count herself lucky - open-air bonfire is a gorgeous smell and you are kindly infusing her laundry with it for FREE! Sadly where I live there is a horrible smell of cowshit lingering over the town (rural area) so no outdoor washing for me.

I think you are being unreasonable, could manshape go and give her one last chance to bring the washing in (it isn't going to get any drier at this time is it?).
Once she's had her second warning I think you should go for it.

It's a lovely summer evening and I think it is a bit anti-social to go and light a bonfire, when a lot of people will be out in the garden enjoying the weather.
Our neighbours did it to us Friday and Saturday while we were in the garden, tis horrible.

Why the fuck are you lighting a bonfire and why do people always do it on lovely sunny days when you have all your washing out.
Im 36 and have never lit a fire in my garden. Wtf is it all about?

Yeah, I'd go round and say 'going to be lighting it now, in case you wanted to move the washing - cheers!', and then light it. If you really want a bonfire on an evening like this!

It's a strawpoll - Manshape works with timber pallets, and once he's dismantled them it's far easier to incinerate all the scrap wood that he can't use for other things, rather than have it clog up his working area.

Yes, he'll probably knock again, he's a better man that i Wink

Because of the title I would have said no, but if you've warned her then I would go ahead, it's later on in the evening which is when you'd expect a bonfire to be going.

Agree with pandy though if your DP is still reluctant, to just give her another shout and then light it, you have got to live next door to the woman.

I still really want to know why people light bonfires. Why? What are you burning? Isn't it something that can be recycled/freecycled?

What about any other neighbours - smoke travels further than one garden away and its a lovely evening. And its Sunday - people will be trying to enjoy their gardens. Open windows ..... smoke goes in the house and stinks the place out.

I HATE the smell and the ash that sometimes travels along with it and would not be happy.

YABU to light a bonfire on a day light today irrespective of washing in or out.

We'd left the windows upstairs open yesterday and came back to find the house stinking of smoke.

I think it's antisocial to have fires on summer's evenings when people have probably got windows open to stay cool

I am 48 and have never lit a bonfire, as I live in London, where it is (supposedly) banned.

It is one of THE MOST ANTISOCIAL things a neighbour can do to another. And everyone else within a half mile radius.

Bonfires at 5pm on a damp November evening = ok, I suppose.
Bonfires at midsummer, anytime, = just horrible.

yabvu, not just because of your neighbour, but it is hot at the moment and people have their windows open, it's not fair to make them close them because of the smell. Would be very pissed of if you lifed near me

It's being lit today because it's dry. And because manshape needs to clear some scrapwood so he has room to work out back.

Neighbours other side are fantastic - they've even given us some things they want rid of so we can incinerate. They have no problem with it.

TBH i really don't give a fiddlers fart what the neighbour with the washing out thinks - it's gone passed that.

round here it is illegal to light bonfires and you get fined for it,woman back to me did it one sunny Saturday afternoon,fire brigasde out and a £200 fine(second offence as she did it last year too)

TH it's easier to incinerate it rather than hoof it round the side of the house, down the steps and into the car, and i can't help him lift and carry.
