to not understand why people think it's a good idea to flood the country with people of other races and cultures?

It is said that multiculturalism is a 'good' thing, why? You want your kids to mix with people of other cultures - take them on holiday.

Why is it a good to create areas with pockets of people from other countries who don't particularly want to be here, like us, our culture, food or weather, and are basically only here to bleed (for want of a better word) the country dry of as much money/services as they can get? That is the ugly truth. A lot of their money is not put back in the economy here, it goes out of the country to build houses/buy cars for their families back 'home'.

In my street (coucil housing), 7 out of 15 houses are occupied by foreign nationals. They do not mix with anyone else except their fellow countrymen (the 2 polish families have riotous barbecues every weekend). As I walk to the town centre, at least 1 of out every 3 groups of people are talking in a foreign tongue, they would not pass the time of day with you and I am far outside London.

Explain how this is benefitting our society as a whole. The old chestnut 'they are doing jobs we don't want to do' is wearing thin. If we needed doctors and nurses etc, why was this not planned in advance and quotas not figured out to make sure our young were trained for these jobs with incentives put in place? Is'nt that what the government is supposed to do? At least they would be putting their wages back into our economy.

Call me a racist - whatever. I know what I'm talking about with first hand experience.

Flame away.

If it were me I wouldnt want to mix with you either OP. your attitute stinks.

Riveninside · 02/07/2011 14:48

We have an aging population. We need workers and more jobs to support all those boomers. We need immigrants. And our own young people to be better educated to be able to compete.

quirrelquarrel · 02/07/2011 14:51

I don't think the OP is being racist/xenophobic if one looks at it objectively. She cites examples, blind prejudice doesn't come into it so much. One of her points is that multiculturalism isn't fulfilling people's expectations...maybe made a little more vituperatively than necessary, but she doesn't need to be called a racist! I don't think she's saying they ought to go away, just that they don't need to be fanfared up into something fantastic so we'll respond to them more nicely because they contribute the same as everyone else in the end ("because we are all people afterall!" QQ bleats naively).

Have skim read first post- so judging on gist. Haven't read the whole thread through. Am a Multicultural Element myself, so maybe this will stop people lumping me with OP and calling me a racist Wink

My God. A genuine bigot! I thought they were just in fairy tales...

mathanxiety · 02/07/2011 17:27

TSC I don't think your theory holds out for every possible combination -- a friend whose mother is Jewish and whose father is African American had to be tested for Tay Sachs and sickle cell anemia when she was born, and her two children likewise. But I agree with your general optimism wrt immigration (the only logical position for someone Irish I suppose).

ThePathanKhansWoman · 02/07/2011 17:46

usual i think we may be related Grin, its like the U.N round my gaff, great fun, great food.
My Mil speaks broken english/pashto/urdu,my mother has strong Belfast accent, father has strong Jamaican accent, but when they get together they natter for hours Hmm.
None of us can follow the conversation, but they obviously got the "multicultural" thing down to a TWink.I love it.

M0naLisa · 02/07/2011 20:32

HoHumm you say 7/10 house are occupied by forgein nationals, is that a case of my friend knows a friend of a friend who cant geta council house because of the polish coming over

Grow up and go do your homework little sweetie.

nervousnewbie · 02/07/2011 20:41

Gosh I didn't realise Richard Littlejohn had registered with MN! Hmm

NotJustKangaskhan · 02/07/2011 20:59

Britain has never been a mono-cultural, let's all play together, eat all the same things, and share together wonderland. It's always had different cultures and groups rubbing beside each other and ticking each other off with strange hobbies and foods. And everyone, native and non-native born, has enjoyed having a good moan about the weather.

quimbledonsemi · 02/07/2011 21:14

OP make your mind up - are the immigrants wanting to go home or rubbing their greedy little hands together claiming our benefits and living in our houses?

donnie · 02/07/2011 21:20

diluting the gene pool is a good thing OP, as your post illustrates

donnie · 02/07/2011 21:30

and as for all those scrounging refugees from war torn parts where their family members have been tortured/raped/murdered (delete as applicable)and who want some kind of life for their kids - WE WHITEYS SAY PISS OFF BACK TO SIERRA LEONE/AFGHANISTAN/MYANMAR/SOMALIA....and get yer hands off our minimum wage.

donnie · 02/07/2011 21:31

(I am only a small part whitey btw - the rest of me is p**i - ouch!)

thefirstMrsDeVere · 02/07/2011 21:40

I see MNs hasnt changed since I have been away.

My babies are lovely and brown and as multi cultured as you can be. Beautiful, clever, funny and just yummy.

I am looking out of my window and can see people from all over the world on the green. Somalian family, West Indian, Turkish, Albanian and born and bred eastenders.

Its lovely.

I would rather live in my world than yours HoHumm. Its much nicer here.

Yes I live in the idyll that is E17 thescond Grin

WinkyWinkola · 02/07/2011 22:54

Hohumm, on my street not one British person even bothers to say hullo or good morning etc. Where is this white British community you write of? It's a myth. And btw there is not one single forrin family on my street. Just drunk, shouty and loud car driving proud to be English whiteys. I personally wish THEY would fuck off from under the slimy rock from whence they came.

Op, you talk shite.

Champersonice · 02/07/2011 22:55

Ah, Mrs, I am not too far from you. Both geographically AND in thought!! I always like your posts, btw!

UnseenAcademicalMum · 02/07/2011 22:55

All this talk of "immigrants", leaves me wondering where I'm supposed to call my home country. Half British, half norwegian, born and raised in germany till age 6 (due to dad in forces).... Do I count as an immigrant then?

duchesse · 02/07/2011 22:57

Is it happy hour down at the Old Dog & Bollocks or something? How many more of these threads are there going to be?
