I've had the day off today. Dropped Ds off at school, taken dog for a walk, emptied and re-loaded dishwasher, done two loads of washing (only one is hanging on the line so far), hoovered and mopped floors and nipped to the shops.

Aurrasingh- you naughty girl! Meeting your lover! When I didn't work and the DCs were younger, I did a gym class, went shopping, met friends for coffee, did more shopping...
Nowadays when school is out-soon horray!- I do the garden, spring clean, sell things on ebay, do some sewing, make jam..

FellatioNelson · 01/07/2011 19:09

I do all the tedious but essential things that you rest of you have to cram into a weekend, so that I don't need to spend my life moaning about how crap my life is because I never have any spare time. Then I loaf around for a bit, then I go on MN. Not always in that order.

TrilllianAstra · 01/07/2011 19:34

Whatever they like. :)

janey68 · 01/07/2011 21:17

I wonder what their husbands do?

TalkinPeace2 · 01/07/2011 21:20

ZXEightyMum · 01/07/2011 21:21

Lonnie · 01/07/2011 21:23

Honestly OP I think your big clue is " I had the day off"

You had a day off the stay at home parent doesnt..

In my experience there is more to do when you are at home with young children. Now mine are older I am still a SAHM but I work part time and volunteer for a charity

I rarely have a day where I am home let alone have a day off

Groovee · 01/07/2011 21:23

My 2 are in full time school and when I don't work (I usually have 2 full days and 1 morning home alone) I meet friends or my mum, usually have one medical appointment to go to or if I am not having good days, then I rest.

School finished today and I had 2 loads of washing out by 8.30, sorted ds out with party clothes and a present, got the rest of the packing done for our holiday, then went to school 30 mins early to get ds's medical pack collected, then took the car out of the school area to park for a quick getaway to MIL's to drop ds off and get dd to her dance exam

fluffles · 01/07/2011 21:25

i have a day off in the week to do the shitty boring stuff so that we can spend good fun family time at the weekend rather than spend saturday in sainsburys or doing laundry..

Indigojohn · 01/07/2011 21:27

Janey, mine goes to work to earn a big fat salary so I don't have to Grin

Oh and Janey - it ain't HIS money I'm spending, it's OURS.

Maybe that's where you are going wrong? Hmm

biddysmama · 01/07/2011 21:33

drink gin and ogle the gardener

TalkinPeace2 · 01/07/2011 21:33

Mine earns the money and cooks the supper
I magically fill the fridge, get the kids to and from everywhere, clean his clothes and house, earn the money for the gym and stay fit

would not have it any other way

I don't understand your post, op. Surely you have answered your own question?

Asinine · 01/07/2011 21:44

I meditate, walk dog, draw, paint, play piano, see friends/mn and now and again I remember to clean the house and feed the family Grin

baskingseals · 01/07/2011 21:45

this thread is making me dribble

i cannot wait until all three dc are at school
now dreaming about gin and gardeners and yoga and lunch and daytime telly

OmniaParatus · 01/07/2011 21:46

Love this thread. I have three under four, so the minute four month old ds2 goes to school i think ill sleep for a month. Then i shall get a window cleaner. Would getting a milkman too be classed as greedy?

Soups · 01/07/2011 21:47

I used to have no problems filling my day, but I'm a day dreamer and happily entertain myself :) I've never had any problems keeping busy and interested.

I used to get all the crap out of the way, then we all had the evenings and weekends to do nice stuff. Of course we have to clean the kitchen etc but most of the gardening, decorating, housework, planning, homework, shopping was taken care of. If family or friends had emergencies I was the one available, many times I stepped in for my working friends for inset days, can you pick up xxx I'm running late ...

There were many days when I didn't stop but I'm not going to pretend I was rushed off my feet, or had it harder than anyone else, it's not true. I made plenty of time to go to the gym, swim, shopping, but then again it didn't impact on anyone else in the family. Now my husband comes in and I rush out saying bye, kids fed, do homework, do washing. On a cold wet day I felt no shame in cuddling up in a blanket, with my laptop and crap tv for company. I even went to the cinema a few times, terrible behaviour.

Since I started to work full time people keep asking how I'm finding it?! Very nice really Grin Mornings are easy, we wake them up, shove clothes on them, drive them to breakfast club. Then the club have to deal with my tired kids, much less stress and mess. They go to after school club, they paint, bang drums, play ball games, have snacks. I pick them and the staff clear up. The house has much less traffic!

Why has no one asked how my husband is finding it? He's the one who looks pissed off Grin Yes dear, it needs to be done. Dear what are we having for dinner tonight? No food darling? The shop is that way. He'll get used to it.

OmniaParatus · 01/07/2011 21:47

X posts basking seal. We should get together for gin in 5 years!
