The Non-Feminist Point of View

JamesHuff · 29/06/2011 15:00

I have noticed over the last while that the Feminist section has grown over the last bit.

This does not surprise me, but I feel compelled to ask why this site has begun to ascribe to a sociopolitical ideology when it was originally a resource for parents.

I think that as a result of this discrepancy, non-feminist points of view should have their own section as well. I hope people who disagree with inequalities feminism has created within our legislation will be compelled to express themselves more often.

I don't see it as unreasonable. Since there will be disagreements on various topics, I just figure a non-feminist based section would be in order. This way parents have a choice that reflects both sides of the coin.

Sigh...I remember being just out of uni...expert on everything. Happy days, could have taken on the world!

SpringchickenGoldBrass · 30/06/2011 02:15

Hmm, in generally it's a little unethical for loads of people to pile in and take the piss out of a poster for putting an, er, unusual viewpoint.
However, it would only trouble my conscience if I thought that such a poster might actually be weeping all over the keyboard in shock and horror having never realised that s/he was full of shit. In the case of Jamez the Manly Manly Stop The Feminists Cream Puff I can't say my conscience is troubled much. Because people who spout this sort of crap are failures. They don't even realise that they are complete losers and it's all their own fault that no one wants to employ them, be friends with them or have sex with them. It's on with the tinfoil hat and out with the green biro and the greasy-fingerprinted lined paper... Oh wait! Oh no! They can't write in green on the Interweb! Something Else to chalk up to the unmitigated universal even of the feminist conspiracy...

Ormirian · 30/06/2011 08:44

"quite disgusted with the responses to a reasonably phrased question"

It might have been a reasonable phrased question. It might have been the most delightfully balanced and elegant set of words, the epitome of grammatical elegance. That doesn't stop it being offensive nonsense. There is no such things a 'non-feminist unless you mean mysoginist. There just isnt. And why should we have a Mysoginist section?

dirgeinvegas · 30/06/2011 09:06

Ah I see, James came here to start a war against feminism. How disappointing, I had hoped to intelligently debate this and gain an understanding of why he thought we needed anti-feminism.

James you listed lots of examples of feminism gone wrong but nothing that had impacted your life personally.

I could fill this thread with examples of how sexism and "un-feminism" has adversely affected my life and limited my opportunities.

If you think un-feminism is something to fight for then I can see that hoping for intelligent anything from you is a waste of time.

spookshowangel · 30/06/2011 09:45

james i think that if enough people wanted a non feminist section and petitioned mumsnet towers for one it would be considered though i think it would be a bit pointless as most woman are not for a backwards step in society i have seen some of your other sites and some of the feminist post titles do seem extreme though you dont show any of the posts from inside the thread which would show differing views.
that is probably the main reason why we dont need a non feminist group because people with differing opinion much like yourself are free to go in to the feminist area and disagree/agree with what is said there to their hearts content.
i personally dont go on there, its all a bit militant for me but that doesnt mean that i dont hold similar views i just choose not to share them on mums net, its a political view point it should be allowed a voice. the subjugation of women on the other hand not going to be a popular view point.
but you should totally feel free to go into the feminist area and tote any anti feminist view points you may or may not have because that is your right. have fun.
p.s why does the thought of a group of women having any sort of clout bother you so much?

ILoveYouToo, on a side note, I found this quite weird: "See, I find it as offensive as racism, actually. If a black person is being a fucking twat, I want to call them a fucking twat. Not a fucking black twat, because it doesn't matter what colour twat they are."

You know what twat means, right? It's a sexist insult - it implies that a woman's genitalia are something disgusting.

But if you said they were a "fucking white twat", with the implication that the reason they are being a twat about equality is because they are part of the privileged group... is that a little bit different?

jugglingwiththreeshoes · 30/06/2011 12:29

It doesn't sound like a great word to me. Worse than the more straight-forward C word - which could be re-claimed, especially in the style of D.H Lawrence in Lady Chatterly's lover ?!

Pelagia · 30/06/2011 12:31

Why don't we just open a Muppets Corner or something?

How ya doin' Jamez4/5/6/7?

maryellenwalton · 30/06/2011 13:29

I've never seen any woman as angry at men as a significant number of men seem to be towards women.

Why is that? Wouldn't you think after centuries of subjugation that it is quite incredible that women aren't rising up as one and demanding revenge against men, instead of merely equal rights (which it looks depressingly like we won't achieve in my lifetime).

But some men still want to blame all womankind for their own inadequacies. Instead of on their knees apologising Grin. Didn't Tony Blair apologise for slavery? Why has no such apology been forthcoming on behalf of the male sex for their historical crimes?

Interesting

Why has that Dowdall fellow stopped posting on this thread? He was the only one talking any sense.

Targelor · 30/06/2011 13:49

Wow. This poor guy. No wonder he hasn't answered back. Of course, every post that continues to be placed on this subject only adds fuel to the fire. I'm starting to wonder if he did this just to draw out all this angry rhetoric. If so, he did a really good job, at everyone's expense. It also speaks volumes that there are so many responses. It looks like a mob mentality.
I hope you are happy with providing that kind of example.

SybilBeddows · 30/06/2011 13:49

I can't imagine, Maurice.

By the way Maurice, do you know anything about patchwork quilting? I like a nice chat about quilts.

SybilBeddows · 30/06/2011 13:49

what about you Targelor? Do you prefer to quilt by hand or machine?

EricNorthmansMistress · 30/06/2011 13:50

Targelor

SybilBeddows · 30/06/2011 13:55

I wonder if MRAs have a logo they could design a quilt block around. That could look really good.

CrapolaDeVille · 30/06/2011 13:55

Well I agree with Targelor....I'm going to start a KKK thread and hope that everyone's nice.

Sybil, think flames. Lots of lovely reds and oranges shooting up. I'm thinking shot silk.

TandB · 30/06/2011 13:59

How is Jamez? I missed him.

I don't personally buy the suggestions from a couple of posters that MN has somehow given this troll exactly what he wanted. What he no doubt wanted was a whole load of hysterical screaming and "how very dare you" type responses. What he got was a whole load of fairly entertaining grief from a lot of people happy to use him as free entertainment. I see little angry rhetoric, but a lot of silly poetry.

And Sybil - watch it! I quilt. But by machine.
