The Non-Feminist Point of View

JamesHuff · 29/06/2011 15:00

I have noticed over the last while that the Feminist section has grown over the last bit.

This does not surprise me, but I feel compelled to ask why this site has begun to ascribe to a sociopolitical ideology when it was originally a resource for parents.

I think that as a result of this discrepancy, non-feminist points of view should have their own section as well. I hope people who disagree with inequalities feminism has created within our legislation will be compelled to express themselves more often.

I don't see it as unreasonable. Since there will be disagreements on various topics, I just figure a non-feminist based section would be in order. This way parents have a choice that reflects both sides of the coin.

I think it would be tantamount to having a homophobic section on a LGBT website. There are different flavours of feminism, you know.

Can you stop now?

You got short enough shrift on the comedy forum, yahoo and FB.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 29/06/2011 15:07

Hiding your thread in gleeful anticipation of MN moving it to the 'feminist' section.

Birdsgottafly · 29/06/2011 15:07

We do have a choice, that is why we have different sections on here. The SN and allergy section is for thse looking for advice not those that do not believe in SN's or allergies, for example.

Could you explain some of the 'inequalities that feminism has created'?, inequality was created before feminism and other anti-discrimination movements, not since.

Crosshair · 29/06/2011 15:10

I'd like to see a fascist section.

Don't engage, people

JamesHuff · 29/06/2011 15:11

@MrsTerryPratchett
I can understand why you might feel that way, however the if this site is all about parents for parents, then a feminist ideology should be counterbalanced by non-feminist points of view. I am sure not all parents agree with some the information here.

If Mumsnet is espousing political ideas, then it becomes less a resource for parents and more a resource for sociopolitical writers and reactionaries.

If Mumsnet then does not have a section dedicated to a non-feminist point of view, then that blatant bias would end up driving away some parents who would otherwise benefit from the other resources here.

It's true, why don't we have a section saying that women are automatically worse than men at everything, shouldn't get paid as much as men for doing the same job and should be chained to the sink?

Oh yeah, because it's a website mainly used by women, who by and large think the above is a load of crap, whether they identify themselves as feminists or not.

Why don't you start your own forum called "women are shit" and see if everyone here agrees with you follows you over there HTH Biscuit

Crosshair · 29/06/2011 15:13

Mormon section?

ShirleyKnot · 29/06/2011 15:14

AnyFucker - Do you remember that thread we were on together that time when that person posted a picture of a pair of WITCHES and said it was me and you?

Mordred · 29/06/2011 15:14

And what exactly is a 'non-feminist point of view'?

Feminism = common sense. End of.

JamesHuff · 29/06/2011 15:15

Interesting, I never expected to be flamed. I sincerely thought some useful discourse would come of this.

Anyfucker - Good Times. Good Times.

fedupofnamechanging · 29/06/2011 15:18

Seeing that Feminism simply means equal opportunities and rights for women, I'm not really sure what it is you are objecting to, and don't give a fuck anyway.

BornSicky · 29/06/2011 15:19

No, you didn't.

You thought you'd use faux intellectual phrasing and cause a ruck.

You're not worthy of a biscuit...
