To think all GP support staff are rude and evil!

Grr. Just come back from my GPs. On Monday I telephoned to ask for a GP apointment before Friday, the receptionist gleefully told me there were none. She then insisted there was only one nurse's appointment all week free and that was in my working day. When I said that was not convenient she moaned and groaned and fond me another at 6pm today. When I go;t there the nurse told me the receptionist should have asked me to make a AP's appointment, then proceeded to give me advice which contravenes the NICE guidance on the subject. When I pointed this out she was very stroppy with me. Why are receptionsists so rude and unhelpful? and why do nurses, who want to assume a professonal role never have up to date clinical evidence to support the nonsense they spout at you! And lastly why did they tell me they had no appointments when one of the lovely GPs came out ofhis room and announced to the receptionist that he was pleased he could go home early as it was quiet!!!

crapoladeville, spot on, kind word and being courteous will take you long way.

Animation · 23/06/2011 10:27

"I have never suggested that most patients are either twats or idiots."

Using those terms for ANY kind of patient doesn't do help your argument!

IWantAnotherBaby · 23/06/2011 10:32

Animation as I said, I have NOT used those terms for ANY patient!!!

Animation · 23/06/2011 10:40

"Of course some people are just twats, but we still have to treat them"

"they are a MEDICAL record, not a record of who the idiots are"

I thought this was a reference to patients?

Those derogatory terms don't help your argument. You appear rude.

EmmaBemma · 23/06/2011 10:52

No she doesn't. She appears reasonable and courteous, but understandably a little exasperated by some of the attitudes in this thread. I'm sure some patients are twats, I don't see why being ill automatically makes everyone a nice person. If anything, it will exacerbate the twattery.

SultanV · 23/06/2011 10:53
Shock
SchrodingersMew · 23/06/2011 10:54

Higgle I haven't read most of the thread as I don't have the time to go through 9 pages. I am sorry you had a bad experience with your GP surgery, mines can be quite hopeless at times but the staff are lovely in there as well as the GP's. Obviously it depends where you go and not all staff are like that.

My Gran is an Auxilliary in a hospital and even she agrees some of the Nurses are hopeless at dealing with people, very good at their job but lack people skills.

I am also sorry that so many people have felt the need to rip in at you. I thought MN was meant to be about advice, not tearing people to shreds because they don't agree with what you say. I know how this feels because I posted a thread yesterday that has been talked about on the 1st page of your thread.

I was genuinely feeling upset because of some experiences I have had lately yet some people didn't even believe me and now my thread title is being horribly paraphrased on the first page of this thread to seem completely different from what I meant.

*"this is like the "all HCP's don't respect my personal boundaries and keep trying to touch me up" thread

it's the new craze, dontcha know

bash the people trying to help you"*

AnyFucker Are you just incapable of being nice to people? Or do you just come on here to make people feel like shit?

I never said once that they were trying to touch me up, I just said they were grabbing at areas that they should have had consent to touch. Not that they were deliberately trying to touch me up. They were doing there job and yes, trying to help me but they weren't being very sensitive to the fact I might not want touched without giving them permission.

zlaya · 23/06/2011 11:05

SHRODINGERSMEW, whilst I am not tying to be insensitive to you and I am not in full possession of the of the examination you had, at the same time if the behaviour of the doctor was inappropriate you should have spoken straight away, in the doctor defence, depending on what they are looking for, all tough very uncomfortable to be "touched up" I am sure there is a very good reason for prodding and poking, i would much rather have that and get genuine all clear, the leave something not investigated properly left there in my body to fester.

MissTinaTeaspoon · 23/06/2011 11:07

schrod I'm not aware of your other thread so can't comment there but the reason that the op (and sultan in particular) have been "ripped to threads" is because they have been insulting enough to describe an entire professional group as 'underqualified' and 'vengeful'. Differences of opinion are to be expected but I don't expect to be insulted in this manner. They have only got as good as they gave.

SchrodingersMew · 23/06/2011 11:12

Zlaya I was having 24 Hour ECG stickers removed. It was a HCA and there really wasn't any need for him touching me. Any time I have had an ECG before I have been allowed to remove them myself. And it wasn't him actually removing them that bothered me it was the fact he thought it was okay to try and take my shirt up for my and then after me showing I wasn't happy with that sticking his hand up my top to get a sticky that could be reached from above my tshirt.

MissTina Perhaps I should have read the full thread, I only read a page or 2. If they are saying that all HC staff are underqualified and vengeful then yes, I can see how an argument has started.

SchrodingersMew · 23/06/2011 11:13

Zlaya I made it clear to him at the time I wasn't happy with it, and after pushing his hand away when he went up my top that was it done so I left. I didn't think of saying anymore at the time but my consultant has told me to complain. I don't think you are being insensitive, you are simply giving an opinion.

MissTinaTeaspoon · 23/06/2011 11:16

schrod I've just skimmed your thread and can see where you are coming from, perhaps not with the physio but the man doing the ECG acted inappropriately, probably not deliberately but even so he obviously needs someone to have a word with him so you were right to bring it up with your consultant.

zlaya · 23/06/2011 11:17

Schrodingersmew, I understand now, there was no need for that in that instance I would slapped his hand or pushed it away, pervGrin

melikalikimaka · 23/06/2011 11:18

I had an ecg, was horrified that I had to lie there on couch without bra on. It was a female nurse. To this day, I don't see why I had to be half naked. I could of put stickers on under bra if need be. Very embarrassing. My sis has had several and did not take bra off.

melikalikimaka · 23/06/2011 11:19

Anyfucker Grin

SchrodingersMew · 23/06/2011 11:19

I wasn't really bothering so much about the physio as she's lovely and I think she just lacks people skills a bit. But she has helped massively!

Zlaya I did push his hand away and kind of went "whoa whoa whoa!!!, I'll do it myself thanks." :o

I just didn't expect to post about it and get so much stick!

SchrodingersMew · 23/06/2011 11:21

Mel I didn't take my bra off for this one, I have had a few where they have made me take it off and a few where they let me keep it on. I don't know why some insist on you being half naked!

melikalikimaka · 23/06/2011 11:22

No one sees my titties unless they pay! Wink

They should have some guidelines on this.

SchrodingersMew · 23/06/2011 11:23

:o

I think they probably do have guidelines it's just we don't know about them!

SchrodingersMew · 23/06/2011 11:23

Maybe it depends how big your boobies are actually? Hmm

Sidge · 23/06/2011 11:24

If a bra is underwired it can give an inaccurate result.

Also for a 12-lead ECG the stickers have to be put along the rib spaces - you need to feel for this and it's usually under the bra strap in most women.

Animation · 23/06/2011 11:25

When the OP says "ALL support staff", I dont take that literally to mean in EVERY surgery in the land. She talking about her own bad experience and wonders if other people have had similar.

I have with receptionists.

zlaya · 23/06/2011 11:25

If they want to see the titties, they have to pay sister{grin] always

SchrodingersMew · 23/06/2011 11:25

Sidge Thanks for clearing that up! Mind you, how come I was allowed to keep my bra on for the 24 hour one? That is underwired and the stickies were under the wires.

SchrodingersMew · 23/06/2011 11:26

Animation That is how I would take it as well, I wouldn't assume she meant every single member of staff, just that she had a bad experience and is feeling like it was all of them.
