To think all GP support staff are rude and evil!

Grr. Just come back from my GPs. On Monday I telephoned to ask for a GP apointment before Friday, the receptionist gleefully told me there were none. She then insisted there was only one nurse's appointment all week free and that was in my working day. When I said that was not convenient she moaned and groaned and fond me another at 6pm today. When I go;t there the nurse told me the receptionist should have asked me to make a AP's appointment, then proceeded to give me advice which contravenes the NICE guidance on the subject. When I pointed this out she was very stroppy with me. Why are receptionsists so rude and unhelpful? and why do nurses, who want to assume a professonal role never have up to date clinical evidence to support the nonsense they spout at you! And lastly why did they tell me they had no appointments when one of the lovely GPs came out ofhis room and announced to the receptionist that he was pleased he could go home early as it was quiet!!!

Blessed are the appointment makers.

LadyOfTheCuntryManor · 23/06/2011 22:02

I also made out that this didn't refer to ALL GP desk workers in the land, just the ones in my local surgery.

reelingintheyears · 23/06/2011 22:06

Yeah right.

reelingintheyears · 23/06/2011 22:07

Gosh....how many desk workers do you have to insult?

Higgle,
You must go to my surgery. All of the unqualified (by unqualified I mean non-medic) staff are utter, utter cunts.

I have to fight tooth and neck to avoid seeing a nurse and to get in to see a GP, then I'm given the third degree as to what's wrong with me...which if they're weren't glorified typists, I'd probably divulge.

Can't say they're all cunts, as I don't know them all. But the ones local to me definitely are.

Just to reiterate.

OP, the tone of your posts make it appear that you are somewhat abrasive. Perhaps that is why you are not getting the best service from your surgery.

In other news, I find that my GPs receptionists are most helpful and accomodating - its just the GPs that are rushed, harrassed and uncaring.

LadyOfTheCuntryManor · 23/06/2011 22:16

The receptionists in my surgery, that's who.

ThatVikRinA22 · 23/06/2011 22:19

which surgery is that again LOTCM? go on....put your money where you mouth is.

LadyOfTheCuntryManor · 23/06/2011 22:26

Any reason why you need to know that?

reelingintheyears · 23/06/2011 22:29

Just the receptionists then.....

Not all the others..

Receptionists/typists/phone answerers/appointment makers not to doctors/midwives/nurses or those with medical training (degree or above preferably).

Yeah ok

LadyOfTheCuntryManor · 23/06/2011 22:33

Yes because the doctors and nurses are very well mannered and polite. The receptionists are not. I'm not sure what it is you find so hard to believe...is it that it is possible for the some members of the working class to be arrogant tossers as much as any other sect of society?

LadyOfTheCuntryManor · 23/06/2011 22:34

NOT to should read the....doctors/nurses/midwives etc.

SchrodingersMew · 23/06/2011 22:37

The receptionists in my surgery are lovely, but they have a good appointment system in there. I can imagine Receptionists must take no end of abuse when working in Doctors surgeries.

Question time is much better....

Doha · 23/06/2011 22:50

Lady
I don't get paid a fraction of the the trainee Gp's wages, in fact l get paid considerably more than quite a few of them. My GP's reckon that l earn them more money with my qualifications. I am lucky in that respect but l work hard for it.
Why did l not train to be a Drwell l rebelled at 16 and didn't sit the necessary exams, would l change it nowno l don't want to be a Dr. l love my job and my patients. BUT you are totally right that l get seriously fucked off that patients have a 3 week wait to see me when the GP's have empty surgeries, perhaps a victim of my own success. I watch the money roll in ( and there is no such thing as a poor Dr) and the Gp's carve the profits up between themselves with not even a thank you to the front line staff, yes it is the reception staff l am talking about. We have our hariden and l cringe at her manner but until a patient complains to the manager about her she will get away with it and although l do encourage them to complain many are too scared to take it further.

LadyOfTheCuntryManor · 23/06/2011 22:54

Doha, do you earn more than a doctor?

PartialToACupOfMilo · 23/06/2011 22:54

I was really chuffed to find that my surgery now do early morning appointments and happily booked one for 7.30am Monday just gone to get my knee looked at - had ignored it for a month or so, so the wait between booking on a Saturday and going on the Monday was fine - and I wouldn't have tp have time off work either :)

Was 'really chuffed' until I turned up and found it hadn't actually been booked that is... at least I didn't have to wait too long to see the doctor for my 'unscheduled' appointment in the end (or arrive too late for work). grr!

VivaLeBeaver · 23/06/2011 22:56

Ditto Doha. I also get paid more than a trainee gp. So no I don't mind training them. They need to learn and I want them to learn good techniques/practice.

reelingintheyears · 23/06/2011 22:57

Doha....what do you do then?.

VivaLeBeaver · 23/06/2011 22:57

I earn more than a junior dr.
