to wonder why lesbians go for women that look like men?

surely if you fancy women you'd want to go out with a woman that looked like \ woman not a man.
nothing against gay/lesbians at all.

but this seems a bit strange to me

OP posts:

OP, you sound like my dad. That's not a compliment!

Fortunately there is a really butch heterosexual woman on our school run and she has taken the heat off us for years.

hester · 20/06/2011 22:44

How curvy does a femme have to be for you, Manic? How about a normally slim femme who just seems to be Letting Herself Go?

I don't think the OP's question is stupid. It's occurred to me that gay men seem to be extremely male, liking lean muscly physiques. They aren't attracted to men who are feminine. So imo it's an interesting question. I am not up half the night wondering, or judging. BUT I AM JUDGING the usual MN pile in, let's all make the OP feel like a fool. tsssssk. not going to read another five pages of the classic, predictable mn pile in.

hester · 20/06/2011 22:48

There's a really butch heterosexual woman in my NCT group, which is funny because she's also the least relaxed about sexuality. She has a good heart, but she's always saying annoying things - like whenever we all get together and the girls won't play with the boys, it gets suggested that they learned this from somewhere and it's probably my dd (because I'm raising her to be a manhater, don't you know).

The latest was when my dd was getting some teasing at school about having two mums. She emailed, full of concern, but suggesting that I needed to 'normalise' myself at the school gate, get to know some other mums, so that they could see I am as good a parent as many heterosexuals... I had to point out to her that I AM normal, that I look like the other mums, talk like the other mums, have coffee with the other mums... (but didn't add that if anybody was going to get spotted as a dyke at the schoolgates, it's going to be her, not me).

Bandwitch, some people criticised the OP, but I think plenty of posters have taken the time to respond to her in a friendly way. Me included.

And we're finishing this thread with a lovely friendly lager (or asti spumante for the ladies) which everybody is welcome to join, so long as they'll flirt with Bernard.

Bandwitch · 20/06/2011 22:54

ok. i was a bit hasty. I read the first 3 pages and got annoyed at the usual knee-jerk mn let's all humiliate the OP for .........wondering about something. But now I see that it is all cucumber sandwiches, so excuse me. Too much testosterone coursing through my veins???? Grin

hester · 20/06/2011 22:54

Lenin, have I already asked you if you live in Stokie?

Prince, I'm sorely tempted. I did explain to her that I know all the mums already, most are lovely, and if someone is determined to be homophobic then me wearing a frock won't stop them.

sparky246 · 20/06/2011 22:54

hey Hester-this is ok-my undignified middle aged flirting is worse-[actually im very handsome and butch ][screeeming with butch laughter x]

hester · 20/06/2011 22:55

You want to watch those hormones, Bandwitch, next thing you know you'll be battling five o-clock shadow Grin

Binfullofmaggotsonthe45 · 20/06/2011 22:56

I'm not a lesbian but sparky has definitely loosened my thighs a little.....Raaaawwwwwrrr....

Feels a bit competitive in here though, so i probably have more chance with Bernard Manning. And his guinea pig.

hester · 20/06/2011 22:57

But I do agree with you, Bandwitch. I think you can usually tell if someone is being a bit naive or if they're being nasty. I don't think OP was being nasty and that's why I responded civilly. Of course, I reserve my right not to engage if I'm just too tired of educating people, but I actually think this has been an interesting thread.

hester · 20/06/2011 22:58

sparky, you're looking devilishly attractive tonight. Sadly I'm knackered and off to bed, but ladies, it has been a delight. Hope to see you all soon Grin

oh, leave carri be, she is not malicious. Not at all. She is a longstanding poster, who sometimes speak before her brain engages. Like most of us. Wink

Personally, I like women feminine. I dont "get" butch.

sparky246 · 20/06/2011 23:11

no bin-you have more of a chance with me than bernard manning-trust me.
hester-yes i am atraccive in a bloody butch way-and im proud of this-
not just tonight-but any night.
on a serious note-thankyou for making me laugh and thankyou to everyone who has stuck up for us x i appreciate this.
its not often we get to laugh at this[biggotry]

Carminaburana · 20/06/2011 23:16

I wouldn't say it's biggotry sparky - just someone musing harmlessly (probably for all of 5 minutes ) - I honestly don't think straight women really give a toss about lesbian 'types' - too busy checking out the men - lol

QuintessentialShadow · 20/06/2011 23:18

Agree with Carmina. The bis among us though, sigh.....

Binfullofmaggotsonthe45 · 20/06/2011 23:24

Oh stoppit sparky you fascinating creature...

If, on my annual trip to Brighton Pride this year (mums annual weekend off/support ds' goddaddies etc) i got chatted up by a butch, lipstick, femme whatever... i'd be extremely flattered and probably a little bit fluttery in the tummy....

Ps for all the comments on gay men and the masculine thing, ds god dads are camp and camper, and are just delighted when ex army husband goes round to sort out washing machine crisis, spiders in the bath etc...

ManicPanic · 20/06/2011 23:27

hester, tbh I like big butts and I cannot lie...

No seriously I don't really have an upper 'limit.'

sparky246 · 20/06/2011 23:32

oh im not worried about the bigotry no more carm-im just flexing my muscles[tattood muscles at that]and looking towards hester!
sorry-i cant stop taking the piss.
take off youre rose couloured glasses and see what biggottry for what it is and dont make excuses for this!
