surely if you fancy women you'd want to go out with a woman that looked like \ woman not a man.
nothing against gay/lesbians at all.

but this seems a bit strange to me

OP posts:

Takeit... Why not just go for a bloke? Well given that lesbians get naked together, and they fancy women I would think that a flat hairy chest and meat and two veg would be a bit of a turn off.

Just because some lesbians like to wear men's clothes it does not mean they aren't all woman underneath!!

I don't understand why the op got such a hard time either - It's a question I've heard a 1000 x.

TakeItOnTheChins · 20/06/2011 18:01

swallowedAfly - huh?

Oh, right - because everyone who says something you disagree with is a troll. Yeah Hmm

Bernard Manning had a wife didn't he? Someone found him sexy? Why wouldn't a woman find a female equiv sexy?

I did wonder when the "why don't they just do a bloke then" comment was going to surface, since it was unspoken in the original question. Hey presto here it is...

I have a colleague who is uber camp, married to a female hair stylist, they spend their weekends applying fake tan, giving each other facials/manis/pedis etc. He wears speedos on the beach, her a thong.

My idea of hell, her idea of heaven.

I work with a couple of lesbians and they are neither butch nor lipstick, one is kind of cute tom boyish with a Dr Pixie hair cut and great taste in hipster jeans (i am so Envy of her look) but i have heard a few office bitches call her butch dyke and she is nothing in the least so it's perception too isn't it?

Maybe people are just a little different from you Shock

Takeit-tattoos/shaved heads/combats/and vest tops.
youve just described me[i do like a smart shirt and trousers aswell though]

"seriously some of them are more manly than most men"
yeeeeees!!!!!!

yep-im a big butch lesbian and proud of it![i dont quite look like bernard manning though]

why would a woman want me?
well-i dunno Takeit-ive never thought of degrading myself that much that i would ask"why would you want ME"!
id like to think that if a woman was with me-its because she wants to be with me!
mind you-i do have some qualitys apart from my nice shirts-which are-
im not scared of my butchness[no more]
im equelly not scared of my softness[no more]
i have a sense of humour-
im very sincere
im extreemly caring towards others
im not afraid to show my laughter or my tears[no more]
im extreemly honest[even if others dont like it]
i treat everyone else like a equel[which they are]
there is lots of facets[i think this is the right word]about me-and im not scared to show any of them.
oh yeah-nd im not selfish in bed[said very tongue in cheek]-

i dont like posting in aibu as aibu draws people who just want to fight and dont want a serious discussion-
however-i found youre post offensive Takeit-hence my post.
butch lesbians have been getting it in the neck for years-sometimes with distasterous consequences-and the bigotry still goes on.
shame on you takeit!

Shakirasma · 20/06/2011 19:47

Sparky you sound fab!

sparky246 · 20/06/2011 19:58

oh i am oh i am shakirasma[laughing]
[sorry-this is just my sense of humourWink
thankyou-im just trying to put across that we are actually human beings!

TakeItOnTheChins · 20/06/2011 20:04

I don't think anyone suggested that lesbians aren't human beings, or that butch-looking women aren't human beings, or that lesbians who are also butch-looking aren't human beings. That would just be ridiculous. Of course you're all still human beings.

The question was - why do some women who prefer women to men, seem to have a preference for women who look, act and sound like men?

It's sad that I'm not shocked by some of the more negative comments on this thread...Sad
As a lesbian that others may label as "butch" I find it tiring that people feel that bothered about how I dress, or present myself.
Bloody hell, the world is a mess, the country is going down the pan, and people get all opinionated on the fact I sometimes wear a vest top....Hmm

stripeywoollenhat · 20/06/2011 20:09

takeit, i think, if you were capable of sufficient subtlety, that you would realise that looking, acting or sounding is not identical to being

hth

sparky246 · 20/06/2011 20:09

nope-you have come across as"why the fuck would a woman want to be with a women who sometimes are more butcher then men and look like bernard manning"!

Some people think that women are meant to look, act and sound like an overgrown Violet Elizabeth Bott, and in that case, butch women possibly do look a little like real women men.

Sigh.

Do try to hear what I'm saying.

I couldn't give a crap how butch someone is. FWIW I loathe "girlie" women.

I don't CARE what people look like, or who they sleep with.

WONDERING about a thing is not the same as DISAPPROVING of a thing, or criticising it.

For me, it's the same with dogs and cats. I don't disapprove of people who have those silly little fluffy squeaky dogs, and I don't disapprove of the dogs themselves. I quite like dogs in general. But to me, small fluffy squeaky lapdogs are more like guinea pigs than dogs, so I sort of wonder why someone would go "I don't like Guinea Pigs, I shall get a dog instead" and then go out and buy a dog that is more like a Guinea Pig than some Guinea Pigs.

Small dogs are fine. Guinea Pigs are fine. Nothing against either.
