Every thread I go on is filled with people sayign "I'm from the north east..."
Why are you not all meeting us for cake?

Sign in here to say hi to other NEers, and tell us are you:

  • North of Middlesbrough?
  • North of Durham?
  • North of Newcastle?

My answers are yes, no, no

I miss Middlesbrough, even went for a virtual walk on google maps today Sad, could kill for a parmo and some proper garlic sauce too.

devientenigma · 18/06/2011 09:54

oh sibling didn't realise you were so close

DooinMeCleanin · 18/06/2011 11:21

Arf, V, my friend who left the NE for the brightlights of London comes home a few times a year solely to buy a parmo Grin. He texts me, as I live right near the best parmo shop in town, to let me know he is on his way with his parmo.

I used to miss proper stotties when I moved away. We'd come home and bring back a freezer full of stotties. Stotties outisde the NE are just not stotties.

ipswichwitch · 18/06/2011 16:19

i'm just outside durham, seems to be a lot of us round here :)

FriskyMare · 18/06/2011 17:20

SPB I used to saturday nanny the children from Strickys!! My ma worked there too! Love Yarm

CBear6 · 18/06/2011 17:33

Yes
Yes
and Yes (near WhitleyB for me too)

I often look at places where mam's gather and wonder how many of them are on here.

StealthPolarBear · 18/06/2011 18:02

I'm from the NE :) Don't go to the meets as Durham is a bit far (in Northumberland) and my kids are preteens and teens so too big for soft play!

FriskyMare · 18/06/2011 18:11

SPB - yes she did, only retired 6 years or so ago, was great cos we always got good discounts!

Geordieminx · 18/06/2011 18:31

frisky did you go to park view?

FriskyMare · 18/06/2011 18:42

GM no, I went to St Cuthberts in Chester til 1974 (i'm old!) moved to Yarm when I was 8.

VforViennetta · 18/06/2011 22:11

Ooh which one dooin? Dp was amazed at the takeaways in boro, you get your chips in with your kebab, a kebab pizza means just that (loads of kebab meat on top of a pizza Grin), you get free rice with your curry, and so forth.

Honestly the chip shops down here are poor, fish cakes are findus fare deep fried, gravy in a chip shop is bisto, curry is minging, garlic sauce is all kinds of wrong. They have never even heard of a fish patty fgs, never mind a sausage patty or a beanie Hmm, ah well they are so expensive anyway that my weight is limited. If I lived in boro I would be at least 30 stone, mmm europa parmo.

VforViennetta · 18/06/2011 22:15

What is a stottie btw, I lived in Middlesbrough for the first 21 years of my life and never heard the term stottie. Bun, Bap yes, but never stottie?

LittleMissFlustered · 18/06/2011 22:28

Went on a jolly to Whitley the day after boxing day and had to scour what few shops were open for stotties for a friend's mum. We only managed to find three, but they were enough to prevent bother:o

Am a Yorkshire lass, but have family still in the Newcastle area.

Laugs · 18/06/2011 23:08

I'm in Gateshead. Haven't been to many meet-ups as they seem to mostly be in Durham, which is too far for me, though I did go to one in Giant's Den. Would love to go to another Newcastle/ Gateshead one Smile

spiggy · 19/06/2011 12:27

cosy socks- The first one was a bit strange- sidling up to likely looking people and saying "are you by any chance meeting random people from the internet" Grin. Picked the right people though! After that we solved the problem by everyone bringing a pack of biscuits to display prominently so newbies could spot us. Plus it meant we had biscuits to eat Grin. Honestly after the first few minutes it isn't odd, and we've always got something to talk about (oddest threads on MN can always be a good standby.)

Laugs- I'm happy to give you a lift if you want to come to the Durham ones (In case you don't remember me- we met at Butterpie's wedding and realised that I know your DP)

So, people who would like a Newcastle meet- any suggestions about where? Cafe, soft play, one of the museums, park, trip to the beach?

Greige · 19/06/2011 16:06

VforVienetta - a stottie is a large, round, flat cake of bread. amazin' split in half, slathered in butter and filled with chips. Usually cut in quarters first.

My Grandma was from a mining town in Co Durham and called them Yesty cakes. She would argue with the staff in Greggs over what to call them - "they might be called stotties on Tyneside, but this isn't Tyneside!"

cosysocks · 20/06/2011 12:54

I'd be up for a Newcastle meet up!

spiggy · 20/06/2011 18:56

come on over to the meet up thread and we'll get organising!

KenDoddsDadsDog · 20/06/2011 19:05

Where can we find it spiggy

KateMiddletonsMum · 20/06/2011 19:49

I'm from Northumberland Smile can't get to Durham for a meet up, too far, sorry Smile
