Sadly not Crosshair! This is an actual attempt to reach out and promote BF...

From the 'Sexy Sassy BF Women' website I quote:

"Virginia is producing a music DVD aimed at young mothers in an attempt to normalise breastfeeding...The coming production has been likened to a cross between Calendar Girls and A Perfect Day...Hopefully at the very least this DVD, using tongue in cheek sexiness, comedy, well known celebrities and lots of cute babies will give breastfeeding some well deserved publicity and become a Youtube viral film. If Virginia?s dream is realised the Government may just put some money where their promises are and maybe commission a series of similar productions for a TV campaign similar to those successes of the clunk click adverts or drinking and driving. Now that would work!"

Personally I think that website is less about BF and more about Virginia and her practice. Give the people in the video some credit and the women/men who donated and gave their time to the cause.

Maybe someone who knows about such things(I have no idea how to go about it) should start a petition if there isnt one about already?

xxxtallulahblue · 18/06/2011 21:08

sounds like ive missed a really interesting video. Can somebody post the link on here so I can go on and have a look?

crazycatlady · 18/06/2011 21:08

The link is in the OP tallulah.

xxxtallulahblue · 18/06/2011 21:12

OP?? sorry whats that?

Crosshair · 18/06/2011 21:13

First post, its on the top of every page of this thread.

xxxtallulahblue · 18/06/2011 21:20

Just watched the video, think its such a brilliant idea! this is promoting breastfeeding in such a fun light hearted way dont know why some people on here are getting such a bee in thier bonnet!!! well done girls, :)

Crosshair · 18/06/2011 21:22

Read the thread?

crazycatlady · 18/06/2011 21:22

The link has also been posted by Virginia Howes and others who took part in the video a number of times throughout this thread, presumably in an attempt to increase hits to the youtube clip and up its google positioning (over and above the numerous threads on a number of forums panning it...)

You know I'm actually quite a BF advocate and for that reason I am intensely irritated by this shoddy attempt to 'normalise' BF and promote it to a younger demographic. It's likely to do more harm than good. As a BFing mum, a supporter of breastfeeding and a marketing professional this kind of half arsed, ill thought through campaigning makes my blood boil.

I can't believe this thread is still going on! Looking at VH's comments, I have to agree with the posters who have said this about her business, rather than any concern she may have about breastfeeding.

Controversy will make people more aware of her business, and the businesses of the burlesque dancers on her website. It won't promote breastfeeding; if the sex industry could sell ideas about milk, then formula companies would have the mothers in their adverts dressed as strippers too.

I also agree with Xenia; I enjoyed breastfeeding. I did it as much for me as for my children.

crazycatlady · 18/06/2011 21:26

Yes it's a bit transparent isn't it? Trying to rescue a campaign this way just doesn't work and will end up making the whole thing look more of a failure than it already is. I actually feel quite sorry for all those involved, I can barely watch this unfolding, it's painful!

xxxtallulahblue · 18/06/2011 21:30

grow up girls! im sure this video is purely to promote breastfeeding why would somebody (clearly already very successful in what she does) do all this in order to promote her business?? seriously come on! I have read the thread think its very amusing, women get very touchy when it comes to breastfeeding as I can see from this thread.... im sure this video was purely done for good intentions stop being so cruel all of you

MillyR · 18/06/2011 21:32

One of the professional burlesque people from it has started a thread about it on a burlesque website, mentioning that it is being criticised. That might be why new posters are turning up on here.

xxxtallulahblue · 18/06/2011 21:32

MillyR - I dont think the video has anything to do with sex like said previously in this thread all you can see is the girls arms and faces they are just dressed glamourous???? whats wrong with that?

MillyR · 18/06/2011 21:35

If you've read the thread you'll see that answered several times by several people.

To point out the obvious:

They are dressed as burlesque performers. Burlesque is a form of stripping. Stripping is part of the sex industry.

crazycatlady · 18/06/2011 21:35

You might not think that Tallulah but the fact is that burlesque is a part of the sex industry and considered 'sexy' by many...

And the video is part of a project called 'sexy sassy BF women' so you might see how people make the connection with sex Hmm.

There is nothing wrong with burlesque in a lot of people's minds but it is a distinctly odd way to promote breastfeeding, for all the reasons already quoted on this thread.

xxxtallulahblue · 18/06/2011 21:36

they may be dressed as burlesque performers but at no point do they strip.... therefore nothing to do with the sex industry
