I have just joined and posted about this on another thread so sorry about that mums net people. I have got to say I think they all showed really good sportsmanship to get on and do something fun light hearted and for a good reason. I "get it" completely....its poking fun at "sexy" but also showing that new mums can be glamerous while breastfeeding...... They are duel functioning after all. It has lots of funny bits and by and large they are taking the micky out of themselves. The song is hilarious. Its obviously had a lot of work put into it and I think it should be taken as it looks....funny and lighthearted....lighten up everyone.

Mum2be1111 · 18/06/2011 19:16

I think the video is fantastic. The person who made it is obviously passionate about promoting breastfeeding but made it fun and a little cheeky, it's great :)

BimboNo5 · 18/06/2011 19:24

Why do people need to lighten up if they dont agree with your view? Many people (me included) are sick of the need to sexualise/titilise everything including now how you feed a bloody baby. I can imagine the uproar if mums were parading round in short skirts/ann summers costumes and BOTTLE FEEDING but hey the fact it relates to the HOLY BREAST makes all the difference no doubt

crazycatlady · 18/06/2011 19:27

I doubt young mums in their teens and early twenties will be more tempted to breastfeed having watched a group of 'middle aged' women dance about in corsets.

What was the point of this video again?

Mum2be1111 · 18/06/2011 19:31

I am expecting my first baby and I have to say it is quite refreshing to see something so light hearted and fun rather than all the education dvd's and literature that gets shoved in my hand every time I go to the GP surgery and hospitals and I wasn't offended at all, I don't feel it's sexualising anything, they are just a group of Mum's having some fun with a topic they are passionate about, it's not as if they are in their bikini's and sprawled across sports cars or anything.

It's the same with any artists work though, some will like it and some won't.

Alexeco · 18/06/2011 19:31

It was probably a bit fun to actually make the film. They got all glammed up but Brian Belo? Why???????

Anyway,it doesn't have to be a sexy thing does it? Plus I feel for people like my friend and other women I know who have unnecessarily felt failures as they couldn't BF despite wanting to!

Crosshair · 18/06/2011 19:33

To promote www.sexy-sassy-breastfeeding-women.co.uk ? They accept donations.

Crosshair · 18/06/2011 19:36

Im a mum to be and found the video to be not to my taste, didnt really get much from it. Some of the views of the people behind the video are abit much for me, but I like mcdonalds better than a chicken salad.Confused

crazycatlady · 18/06/2011 19:36

Donations for what? Is it a charity? Hmm

Mum2be1111 · 18/06/2011 19:47

I think the purpose of Brian Belo was to do with his task in Big Brother, didn't he have to come up with lots of words for boobs? And Big Brother has a huge following of young people, perhaps they were trying to dispel the myth that breast feeding is for upper classes and hippies :)

There were donations being accepted but not any more but I think it was just to pay for the project (I believe people offered to make donations to help)

I'm not sure it can be considered burlesque either, I am no expert but there were no stockings, suspenders, stripteases and the only flesh on show was arms and faces....

I like the point about the Calendar Girls, they were middle aged women who did something a bit cheeky to raise awareness about the Women's Institute and it worked but Crazycatlady, do you really think those women are middle aged? I hope I look like them when I am middle aged, they all look younger than me and I'm not even 30 yet!

I wasn't involved but I have been following the project from the beginning. I am just sorry I wasn't in a position to take part, looks like it was a lot of fun, especially the outtakes haha!

crazycatlady · 18/06/2011 19:52

No of course not, hence the punctuation. But a mum in her teens or early twenties might. They are certainly old enough that a younger mum would not look at them at think 'ooh look people just like me who are young, cool and sexy, and breastfeeding...'

Successful marketing relies on creating an image of 'people like us'. This doesn't do that.

Crosshair · 18/06/2011 19:58

Can you really compare the video to calender girls? Personally I dont see a link at all.

I thought burlesque was the middle class equivalent of stripping?Wink

crazycatlady · 18/06/2011 20:05

What worries me more is that the woman behind this silly video is calling for a government public health campaign along the lines of the 'clunk clink' seatbelt campaign or similar to drink driving campaigns of the past.

You cannot compare driving under the influence, which kills and maims many people each year, and not wearing seatbelts (ditto) to the choice between BF and FF. Does she really think the risks are comparable? Is a parent who FFs as irresponsible as someone who drinks and drives? This is 'breastfeeding mafia' at its absolute worst. Such a shame.

Melanie86 · 18/06/2011 20:12

NappyAddict - It was supposed to be light hearted, perhapes even funny (to some) celebration and promotion of breast feeding.
I think ebiebi has hit the nail in the head in their explanation and Mum2be1111 what u have said is right too!

I would like to add tho, I'm hardly middle-aged at 25 altho feel it sometimes!

Crosshair · 18/06/2011 20:15

I like to say everyone who said what I think is also right.

crazycatlady · 18/06/2011 20:17

What a surprise the people who were involved with the making of the video and the new posters on this thread are agreeing with each other... Grin

Melanie86 · 18/06/2011 20:23

As far as I'm aware I'm the only person that was involved in the video that has posted on here today.

crazycatlady · 18/06/2011 20:24

And the new posters on the thread ...

crazycatlady · 18/06/2011 20:28

...some of whom also happen to be attaching links to the youtube clip again

You know the best thing the various parts of the breastfeeding movement could do to help increase BF rates is to get some help with their marketing. What to say to whom, how and when. And what not to say to whom, how and when... It is sad to see BF campaigns digging even deeper holes for BF. And immensely irritating.

Crosshair · 18/06/2011 20:35

The fact that some campaigns seem to be more about self promotion, probably doesnt help much either?

crazycatlady · 18/06/2011 20:44

Absolutely crosshair.

crazycatlady · 18/06/2011 20:47

While I'm having a rant about this ridiculous video... Grin... what were they thinking calling it 'Apple Dumplings'

Do the makers of this video honestly think that appealing to young mums who may not want to breastfeed in case it tarnishes their sexy, cool, trendy, whatever image, with a video called 'Apple Dumplings' is going to work.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha... talk about mixed messaging.

I thought they made it for themselves which is fair enough. Any claims of 'we did it to appeal to young mums', 'its just like calender girls' are abit of a strech imo. If you made it for yourselfs and enjoyed doing it be proud.

Crosshair · 18/06/2011 20:56

I agree soverylucky, I remember a post a few pages back talking about how breastfeeding was normal and boring, which doesnt exactly sell it, but it really appealed to me.
