pettyprudence · 14/06/2011 21:46

mrsgordonfreeman you are absolutely right! Breast is best has obviously been drummed in to me too much (too catchy!). Need to find a new catchy slogan.... Breast is normal just doesn't have the same ring to it.

proudfoot · 14/06/2011 21:52

I only watched 1 min worth and thought it was utter shite to turned off. SO cringeworthy. How is this going to promote breastfeeding?!

BimboNo5 · 14/06/2011 22:00

It has slightly disturbing undertones to me

working9while5 · 14/06/2011 22:05

Christ.

gremlindolphin · 14/06/2011 22:12

I like this!!

handsomeharry · 14/06/2011 22:16

Switched off after a minute. Looked like complete nonsense. I do not get the outfits.

Bizarre.

Meglet · 14/06/2011 22:16

Why the cows? And isn't that Brian from Big Brother?

I never bf in a corset. I was on the sofa in my primark pj's.

pigletmania · 14/06/2011 22:19

Sorry its so sad, won't encourage anyone to bf me thinks

thefirstMrsDeVere · 14/06/2011 22:19

Didnt they ask for sassy breastfeeding mums on MN a while back?

Is this why Shock

I am v. comfortable bf, have done it four times but never felt the need to prove how sassy and sexy I was at the time.

If it helps YAY. But somehow....

belgo · 15/06/2011 07:09

OMG could those women be mumsnetters? Own up!

Melanie86 · 15/06/2011 09:46

Yes, some are mumsnetters. Me being one of them :-/
I thought I was going along to take part in a documentary and then it was too late to say no and this is the final result! I'm proud to say I was involved in making the video although was slightly apprehensive about how it was going to be received, afterall everyone has there own opinion!
My personal one is, I like it and if nothing else we all had a good laugh making it. Shame not everyone likes it, but hey ho we've done it now and the overall response to it so far has been positive! Xx

5DollarShake · 15/06/2011 10:13

I remember the appeals for this - I was going to go along, but it clashed with a wedding I was going to.

The premise actually sounded really good - basically just an attempt to show that breastfeeding Mums were normal, attractive girls-about-town, type thing - not hippy, dippy kaftan-wearing, insence-waving earth-mothers. Although I can't believe that people don't realise this already. Hmm

The end result does look a little bit, um, budget though....

jamaisjedors · 15/06/2011 10:19

yes I remember the woman coming on asking for sexy sassy bf-ers - there was huge debate about it at the time.

thefirstMrsDeVere · 15/06/2011 10:57

Well it has been a long time theory of mine that if we got Posh, Katie Price and Kerry Katona to bf it would do more good than millions spent on health campaigns so I can see what this is all about.

To be clear i am not comparing any of the ladies in the video to any of the above.

The perception round here is that bf are hippy dippies who get their boobs out and flap them around. Unfortunately that is also the image portrayed by the media too.

So I hope it works.

Good for you melanie

Gill1963 · 15/06/2011 11:04

I am a mother of one of the dancers on this video and went along on the day to look after two of the babies, the house on the day this was filmed was full of laughter of the mums and babies.
This video has done what it set out to do which was getting people talking about breastfeeding and how normal a thing it is to do, and also that people do not find it easy, this is being discussed so that is good.
The mums taking part were all regular mums, who are confident in what they are doing and really believe that breast feeding is the best for babies. But also that breastfeeding is a normal thing that can be joked about, and some of the myths that you have to have certain sized breasts or be a certain type of person to breastfeed, are all untrue.
Take it in the vein it was meant the words are hilarious, I for one certainly hadn't heard of some of the names for breasts!!!,
This video has acheived what it set out to do and has been seen on you tube, and other internet sites since its launch yesterday morning and on the plus side the majority of views are very positive and people are seeing the funny side.
Well done girls it was worth it.

mummamizz · 15/06/2011 11:07

I was also in it!. Does anyone think its going to discourage people from breastfeeding? That someone may have a look at that and think "ahhh no you HAVE to dress up in a corset, dance around to a song about boobs and then you get put on youtube think I'll leave breastfeeding " ?
I really hope no one takes the stuff they see on youtube that literally (although would make for quite an erm interesting life I guess!)
Those of you that want to see a more realistic version of breastfeeding promotion should have a go at making one. The problem is how would you get the non converted or unconvinced to watch it?
It's in the comedy section and it's putting breastfeeding out there. All you lot are talking about it....
re the budgety comment it's because it was on a budget!(well spotted) Not many people are rushing forward to pump money into advertising something that's available for free hence the need to get it out there.
I'm proud I was in it and hope it does really well if it makes one person who hasn't considered BFeven just think about it then it's done a good job in my opinion.

mummamizz · 15/06/2011 11:42

Jasminetom just read your comment on how we look like a bunch of mums who have just had babies and your sort of right only I had had a baby ten months ago (at the time) so the just bit is not quite right....Knew I should have got on the slimming pills and hired a personal trainer before I dared show my self to the public. Maybe they should have used BF ing celebrity's...in an ideal/perfect world eh?

Mishy1234 · 15/06/2011 12:21

I'm all for bf and if this video helps promote it then that's all good!

Well done to those who took part.

jasminetom · 15/06/2011 12:48

Yes that was a bitchy below the belt comment and I am really sorry. I just don't think BF is sexy or even something I want to look at or be told to do but I am genuinely sorry.

WorzselMummage · 15/06/2011 12:54

I couldn't actually watch it all, it made me cringe.

I actually find it mildly embarrassing, I don't think that does the 'breastfeeding cause' any good at all.

metalelephant · 15/06/2011 12:54

hey mummamizz

well done for taking part in something you feel passionate about! Don't worry about any negative comments, we all see breastfeeding from slightly different points of view so it's very hard to find common ground in terms of promoting it.

I'm not a big fun of burlesque, but all the mums looked happy and pretty and enjoying themselves - good luck!

TheCountessOlenska · 15/06/2011 12:57

Jasminetom - You may not want to look at breastfeeding but mothers have a right to feed their babies in public without being made to feel uncomfortable and babies have a right to the best food available to them. It saddens me so much that our culture has fetishised breasts to the point that people are uncomfortable with breastfeeding and do not see it as beautiful and natural.

LaWeasel · 15/06/2011 12:59

I think it would be nice if someone did a video that showed how to breast feed in normal clothes and stay reasonably covered up.

And mentioned that actually it hurts sometimes but, it might be because of x,y,z so you can try a,b,c. Most people find it doesn't hurt after q amount of time.

Also, if for some reason it does all go wrong, formula is not the devil so don't feel bad about it.

Why are there no videos that say that?

There is so much emphasis on getting people to try bf, when actually most people do! They just struggle and don't manage for very long, and then feel bad about the fact they gave up.

jasminetom · 15/06/2011 13:05

I don't care what other people do but as someone who doesn't want to, I am fair game to everyone else's judgement. It is not something I should HAVE to look at in public, if other people want to do it or watch others do it fine. I don't live in the British culture and haven't for years so can't comment on that. Here in the Middle East, most women do and in public, it's simply that they don't stare at you waiting for the smug aren't you clever round of applause.

metalelephant · 15/06/2011 13:12

jasminetom, that would make a lovely little film actually...woman breastfeeds in a quiet cafe/cinema/shop/wherever - and then all bystanders start applauding, paparazzi's take pictures, children run to get an autograph, grannies wipe their eyes, youngsters break into song and dance...sounds brilliant!
