I love this guy, AIBU?

OP posts:

Grin "That seriously has to take the prize for the most small minded, ill-informed and cerebrally stunted piece of verbal diahorrea that I have ever read. You sound like a very angry dissatisfied small little person with a very very big sour chip on your shoulder."

On my planet that would be termed a personal attack. But then on my planet making glib comments about the Dunblane massacre isn;tacceptable either, so perhaps we just have higher standards of decent behaviour there.

But I don;t know what "ineffable ullage" is - maybe once you've explained that all will become clear!

ajandjjmum · 11/06/2011 23:48

The point I think you're missing Seeker is that you don't know what he says and does - you just know a handful of comments that he's made over what, 60/70 years that are wrong. You only know this because it is what the press have chosen to feed you. Many of those who have met him have been impressed - as several on this thread have said. You don't have to like him - I'm sure he won't lose any sleep over that Grin - but you can't pretend to know him.

look, jjmum, if the op is allowed to say she thinks PP is great, then surely the rest of us are allowed to say we think he's shit?

ajandjjmum · 11/06/2011 23:53

Look SpringheeledJack - I'm not saying you can't!!! Grin

But I'm allowed to say what I think too.

SpringHeeledJack · 11/06/2011 23:55

he he he

sorry about the "look" Grin

magicmummy1 · 12/06/2011 00:00

Shock can't believe how this thread has, err, developed.

seeker · 12/06/2011 00:01

"but you can't pretend to know him.:

I don't. I'm basing my judgement on what is in the public domain.

Unlike the vast majority of people on this thread who haven't met him either, but on the basis of absolutey nothing have decided that he is intelligent, witty, hard working, devoted, a friend to the environment and a national treasure beloved by all - particularly all our little friends in the Commonwealth.

My judgement fits the evidence. Theirs fits some bizarre fantasy vision of a universal grandfather figure.

BornInAfrica · 12/06/2011 07:15

My days! I have ishoos? I have indeed - with people who talk crap and whose default setting is 'offended'.

Now go purse your lips at that and ponder on your issues - let go of the angst and see if you're not a happier person for it.

exoticfruits · 12/06/2011 07:32

I was on AIBU -so hardly surprising!

troisgarcons · 12/06/2011 07:39

When asked if he would like to visit the Soviet Union: "I would like to go to Russia very much, although the bastards murdered half my family."

Bloody brilliant!

ajandjjmum · 12/06/2011 08:08

I don't think that a solid war record, a 60 year marriage and a working life at 90 can be dismissed as 'absolutely nothing' seeker - and I place value on these things as much as I do press tittle tattle.

We disagree - that doesn't automatically mean that you are right. And as we all know, evidence can be manipulated to fit the judgement required.

trois - they did indeed - and if he said that, I think he was quite entitled to do so. Smile

seeker · 12/06/2011 08:58

Glad you're back, Borninafrica - do you fancy addressing my post of 23.13? I'll candpit to make it easier for you!

frillyflower · 12/06/2011 09:28

I think Seeker that as 'you are so pc you are killing the English language' you probably just don't appreciate the truth, wisdom and beauty of the 'ineffable ullage'.

It sounds like something from Edward Lear.

BorninAfrica you remind me of a dinner guest at one of my husband's uncle's parties back in the 90s. She was a wrinkled leathery woman, an ex-pat from Rhodesia (as she insisted it was called). She spent the dinner getting drunk and haranguing us all about "blicks" and how they couldn't ever govern themselves. She was also stroking my husband's leg under the table (he was 26 and she about 66).

Later on my husband's cousin found the embittered old racistwoman in bed with her dad.

She was a great fan of PP too - and thought all criticism of him and his racist quips examples of po faced political correctness.

You are not called Zanny Blue are you?

ajandjjmum · 12/06/2011 10:00

Come on - we don't agree, but there's no need to be personally offensive by suggestion - frilly!

seeker · 12/06/2011 10:04

Hey, hang on! I'm the only person who's been personally insulted on this thread! No stealing my thunder!

frillyflower · 12/06/2011 10:13

What about

"As for you frilly - you sound like there's something badly amiss in your gene pool"

I think that's pretty offensive!

seeker · 12/06/2011 10:16

Was that before or after I was an angry dissatisfied small little person speaking ineffable ullage?

ajandjjmum · 12/06/2011 10:17

Sorry frilly - hadn't seen that - I was sort of skipping over some posts and that certainly is pretty offensive.

Please don't blame PP for that!! Grin

Sorry about your thunder seeker.

frillyflower · 12/06/2011 10:22

Sorry Seeker - I think the gene pool thing might trump ineffable ullage (although I suppose I can't really say that until I know the meaning of ineffable ullage!)

seeker · 12/06/2011 10:27

No - I concede - gene pool came first!

Primalscream · 12/06/2011 10:32

FF - your dinner party guest was a 66 year old PP lover ( and therefore a racist obviously ) who got drunk and sexually assaulted your 26 year old dh, and ended the night in bed with her own father?

Can I have her number? - she'd liven up some of my parties that's for sure

frillyflower · 12/06/2011 10:37

Thank you Seeker. I am vindicated!

I still don't like PP though and agree with you that identifying with members of the Royal Family ('like a favourite grandad' etc) is odd in the extreme.

I am damn sure that the Royal Family don't identify with (or care about) any of us!

Primalscream · 12/06/2011 10:43

It's interesting isn't it, the recent Royal wedding - not one guest - from heads of state to Kate Middletons butcher turned down thier wedding invitation. Hmm, I wonder why? is it that most sensible people can see things for what they are?
did a single person say - er, no thanks, stick your invite - I'm not sharing space with that racist old bigot.
I think not.
