Today I have read a comment that someone's potential home looks like "a council house on a sink estate," seen a debate about "chav fashion," vile comments about "Poor Kids" etc and seen numerous threads over the past few days where people fight to gang up together against the infesting lower orders with their bad grammar, poor articulation, txt spk and poor spelling.

It is snobbery. Nothing else.

No Orm as I have said 450 million times, one can ask for spelling and grammar etc with manners and love. Just not sneer at inabilities.

Hully - what do you make of the MN's war. I got stuck in the middle of this as well as i registered on here befors xmas and used Fifi25. I picked a few other which were taken so went stuff it i will use the dog and door number so i remember it. I have never registered on NM. I couldnt keep up with the threads due to the garish colours and flicking tickers.

The other day i sympathised with the OP who was JoJo 85 or something. Katie35 also sympathised with her. We were immediatley told we were NM spies. On another thread i read somone was told to Fuck off back over to NM.

I explained i am not on NM and so what if i was. Its an open Forum. I then got told i should have used my immagination when choosing a name. Why. I googled something and wanted a look. Not everyone wants a witty name

I have bowed down after 2 weeks of not being able to post and changed my name but why should i have to do that

I have never told anyone to fuck off to nm.I don't have any strong feelings about nm because I don't really know much about it. I like the tickers though which I believe is a bad thing

But recently I have had loads of "pagwatch and her mates, pagwatch and her ilk... Your gang" etc etc. Often on threads where I have no relationship with anyone on the thread. And I have been sneered at as being snotty and pedanty when I always post that sneering at spelling etc is weak ass.

There is a lot of looking for 'them and us' all round.

Off the mn topic and re: class war. I heard a very interesting programme on R4 where a woman was taking children from disadvantaged situations and showing them round universities. She was telling them, this is possible for you, this is available to you. She found it rather depressing that the teenagers didn't want to "go to the posh", actively disliked the idea of "going to the posh" and ostracised any of their circle who did "go to the posh".

To be honest I don't see this kind of inverted snobbery as in any way "redressing the balance of power". But that's in the real world and not here I suppose.

those who sneer, "kick off" and/or insult on this board are those who come on the site looking to validate themselves by making others feel like they are "below" them.

There was an awful thread about Nm after that silly woman from that site made the mistake of posting a silly thread here where i think she got devoured. She then made the mistake of bitching about the nasty reception she got here. Fair enough, she was very annoying and didn't sound too bright but she sounded a bit lost and as though she didn't have much in her life and was very low. But for some Mn posters to follow her over to Nm, even create accounts there just to bait the poor sorry cow was quite low. And anyone who didn't join them was told to fuck off back to nm. Didn't think it Mn's finest hour.

Yep - I've seen posters saying how funny it will be when the recession bites and so many little Tarquins and Jemimas have to be pulled from their schools.

But then, there appears to be a MN rule that you can say any number of vile things about children...so long as those children are in private school.

begony - i havent seen it but i can imagine it. If i changed my name back today i would not be able to post as everything would end up about NM's , the very thing they say they hate but cant stop talking about.

I wouldnt personally use Hun and Lil but it seems to be a style they use at NM. It just reminds me of childish school yard bullying. Some people havent lost that mentality. It make them sound like TWATS

I definitely agree with you that it ain't that fucking good, in fact I think it's a bigoted comic full of disingenuous lies and misinformation. It's extremely successfull at what it does and sells a load of newspapers; can't take that away from Mr Dacre but it's definitely not my paper of choice.

Glad you enjoy it, it would be really dull world if we all held the same opinion on everything.

Fifi, I don't know how all the NM stuff came about and I have never seen the site. The only understanding I do have is that "over there" they are all fluffy and don't swear, and here we say "cunt" with joy and freedom. I am a very sweary person and here suits me, but I don't think people who prefer fluffy should be sneered at either.

I have been typing and deleting for ages now.

On one hand, I hate the idea of 'class' - the notion that some people are inherently 'better' than others because of money or possessions is both foul and ridiculous.

On the other hand, there has been a class war on MN since, well, forever. Some of it tongue-in-cheek, some not. But it's been around for ages so I am not sure what has happened to warrant this thread, unless it's a straw + camel's back scenario.

And I think Pagwatch makes points elsewhere which I will not improve on by repeating them.
