I know it's all lighthearted....but I find it icky. Not people saying ..have a Wine to cheer someone up so much...but all the "Just waiting till' wine o clock statements get to me.
I think it's because a close relative is an acoholic and I have seen the damage.

Alcohol is such a damaging thing...and I'm genuinely surprised (and yes...judgey) about how many parents seem to rely on it every night.

i used to drink alot, i was very depressed and the alchol made me even more depressed, i woke up feeling shitty and then the rest of the day continued. Until my mum dragged my sorry arse to the doctors and got the treatment i needed.

i still do drink, but now i am happy when i am drinking and feel after 1-2 glasses of wine and feel good about myself, just the same feeling when i finished a much loved book, finished doing a project ect.

drinking when feeling stressed is never a good idea.

Al0uiseG · 07/06/2011 19:46

Definitely agree that drinking too much at a mumsnet meet up means you sleep very badly. I love the fuzzy effects of a couple of glasses of wine though. It's funny but a glass of wine relaxes me in 6 minutes, that's a prop I never want to give up.

I have however given up Tequila. Wink

TheFlyingOnion · 07/06/2011 19:46

It makes it hard to put the chocolate down for long enough to drink any wine Sad

ReadyToDrink · 07/06/2011 19:46
Grin
AgentZigzag · 07/06/2011 19:47

It's not an allowance mumbling, it's a guideline.

Totally different.

I wouldn't know if I exceeded it or not, never cared enough to look/measure.

Primalscream · 07/06/2011 19:49

Wine doesn't bother me - but I could drink a bottle of magners in 10 minutes - I can drink it like water

jesuswhatnext · 07/06/2011 19:49

i used to love that fuzzy feeling after a couple of glasses, unfortuantly, i could never stop at that! i too had to give up tequila long ago! that really is a fight in a bottle!

MumblingRagDoll · 07/06/2011 19:49

Look. I know people will think m judgy/nun-like whatever...I'm not as it happens...far from it. It was just an observation...a thing I noticed about MN. There IS a big "thing" about alcohol on here. I was just pointing it out.

Al0uiseG · 07/06/2011 19:51

Everything in moderation...including moderation.

I like that motto.

MumblingRagDoll · 07/06/2011 19:51

jesus It's funny because I hate that fuzzyfeeling...don't know why. As soon as I have one or two sips of a drink I can feel it...and it bothers me. It never used to when I was in my 20s and though I've never been able to drink more than 3 or 4 before I am wrecked....I never lliked the loss of control and now I'm in my 30s I hate it. It seems to impede me from getting stuff done.

Interesting jesuswhatnext. My mum can put away bucketloads if she chooses with almost no hangover/drunkeness but it happens very rarely and neither of my parents drink much at all most of the time.

However, I should NEVER have more than 2 G&Ts Grin, otherwise I am that woman snivelling at the bottom of the stairs at parties Blush.

jesuswhatnext · 07/06/2011 19:52

i dont think its any bigger here than anywhere else MRD

theinet · 07/06/2011 19:52

Many MNers are alcoholics and the defensive responses you have got to your question shows them up for that they are. Drinking a couple of large glasses of wine every evening = you've got a drink problem

worraliberty · 07/06/2011 19:53

You're not judgey now?

You said in your OP you are?

AgentZigzag · 07/06/2011 19:53

Hehe at 'just pointing it out' on AIBU Grin

I think you post enough for people to know you're not a judgy twat mumbling.

You care, and that's nice.

Primalscream · 07/06/2011 19:54

I can resist everything - except temptation

jesuswhatnext · 07/06/2011 19:56

well, im off to meet dh for dinner - i will have a couple of cranberry and sodas with ice and lime (and sticky toffee pudding!) he will have half a bottle of wine and we will have a nice chat, a bit of laugh and stroll home - very different to how it used to be!

funtimes - i was never the snivveling one, i was the loud bolshy one Blush with her skirt tucked in her knickers - never a good look!

Al0uiseG · 07/06/2011 19:56

MumblingRagDoll you're just jealous because you can't do it properly Wink

usualsuspect · 07/06/2011 19:57

I like drinking and smoking

so a big Wine and [fag] from me

LadyBeagleEyes · 07/06/2011 19:57

So every person that has posted admitting they enjoy a drink is now being defensive.
If I say I like a drink some evenings the op will just accuse me of the above.
I can't be arsed discussing this, it's like as soon as you sit and enjoy a drink you immediately must have drink problems.
It also can be fun. Get over it.

Al0uiseG · 07/06/2011 19:57

JesusWhatNext you were probably a bit too good at it Wink

expatinscotland · 07/06/2011 19:59

'Many MNers are alcoholics and the defensive responses you have got to your question shows them up for that they are. Drinking a couple of large glasses of wine every evening = you've got a drink problem'

Oh, please.

[rolls eyes]

In the US, people don't drink as much as here. Instead, they stuff their faces with food that's why there's more obese and morbidly obese people than anywhere else in the world. They also have a HUGE drug problem, with all the associated extremely violent crime that goes along with it.

Al0uiseG · 07/06/2011 20:01

Pass the Dooby Expat :o

MumblingRagDoll · 07/06/2011 20:01

Grin I said I was judgey before anyone could et the special pants out and make me wear them!

expatinscotland · 07/06/2011 20:02

Here's a fat one, Alouise. If I had to live with some of these dour-faced killjoys, I'd abuse booze, fags, drugs, anti-freeze, spray paint, pretty much whatever I could get my hands on.

FFS, feel like I've accidentally walked into a Free Kirk.
