I know it's all lighthearted....but I find it icky. Not people saying ..have a Wine to cheer someone up so much...but all the "Just waiting till' wine o clock statements get to me.
I think it's because a close relative is an acoholic and I have seen the damage.

Alcohol is such a damaging thing...and I'm genuinely surprised (and yes...judgey) about how many parents seem to rely on it every night.

I think everyone should just piss off and let others do whatever they want within the confines of the law

I'll raise a bottle to that Grin

porpoisefull · 07/06/2011 18:39

Hmmm. I love beer (proper beer, not cheap lager) but used to worry a bit about the amount I and DH (especially DH) drank, only because we don't really know what health impacts drinking at a level that is now 'normal' has in later life.

Alcohol is so imbedded in our culture I don't think the odd MN wineglass has much effect one way or the other.

katvond · 07/06/2011 18:40

What gets me and I'm gonna have a cunning rant about it why do people post on here to moan about the actions of others.
Just get a life and concentrate on your own dad miserable life's.
If people want a drink let them.
You boring ass people

TheFlyingOnion · 07/06/2011 18:41

spiderslegs · 07/06/2011 18:41

Stop it you lot, you're really making me want a drink now.......may send DH to the shop.

mrsjohnsimm · 07/06/2011 18:41

When I see people in Sainsburys, adding sticks of celery to their trolley, I can't help but think they are planning to use them in some weird sexual fetish. In other words, I doubt most love the taste like, say, a nice juicy tomato ... I am sure that most put that celery in their trolley with the intention of receiving some kind of pervy thrill from it.

Or rather, I don't. Because I am able to separate the fact that I think celery is the devil's work and should never be eaten under any circumstances from my judgypants evaluation of other people.

izzywhizzyletsgetbusy · 07/06/2011 18:41

Booze glorious Booze
I'm anxious to try it.
Three glasses a day
My favourite diet!

Just picture a great big Scotch
Neat or sour, and I'm stewed.
Oh, booze,
Wonderful booze,
Marvellous booze,
Glorous booze.

I worship no wo/man or bottle, but the great British cuppa doesn't do it for me. If I want or need to relax or unwind quickly, I pour myself a large one and savour it with a rollie or whatever.

Anyone else tried the amazing range of ciders that have been on offer in Lidl of late? St Helier Pear, Normandie, Churchwards? Tres refreshing and perfect for dining al fresco or indoors with c/h on.

katvond · 07/06/2011 18:42

I meant cunting not cunning
See what you moaners do to me your sending me loopy loo

MrsCampbellBlack · 07/06/2011 18:43

God - I love the taste of a good glass of wine Smile

Very rarely ever get drunk though and having been pregnant/bf for much of the past 7 years figure my liver has reverted to being that of a 4 year old.

Hullygully · 07/06/2011 18:45

The culture of wine worship, isn't really that though. It is a metaphor for stress relief, something that people use rather than saying, god, today was boring/the dc were difficult/the boss was an arse, I thiink I'll have a nice bath.

On the other hand, and I do have wine most evenings, I do think it odd how many things are banned and yet huge swathes of the population get quietly sozzled every night in front of the telly.

ThePrincessRoyalFiggyrolls · 07/06/2011 18:46

I don't drink every night, however I do religiously acknowledge wine o'clock - it is when it becomes my time of the day and not that of the dc, where I can relax and unwind - wine o'clock is sometimes a vodka and tonic, sometimes and hour long walk with the dog, or a soak in the bath, or equally spending all night on mn!

I have cut down a lot as after ds was born I got excited I could have booze again, then I decided I wanted to lose weight so I cut down, then I remembered that actually I don't mind not drinking so...........that being said, I was rat arsed on Saturday night! So I am not completely dull! (All the time!)

livetolaugh · 07/06/2011 18:46

I like a wine at night. I don't have one every night though. It unwinds me. I don't get drunk everytime I have a wine either.
I keep that for Fridays and Saturdays.

yousankmybattleship · 07/06/2011 18:48

I love wine and I really don't need some sanctimonious twat telling me that I shouldn't. I work damn hard and if I want a glass or two of wine in the evening then I bloody well will thank you.

Oh god can you imagine a life without anything that's bad for us?

No alcohol
No chocolate
No fizzy drinks
No takeaways
No salt on food
No sugar on cereal
No caffeine
No white bread
No real butter
Etc.....

Yeah we might live to 100yrs old (if we haven't topped ourselves) but we'd be a right bunch of miserable bitches Grin

bupcakesandcunting · 07/06/2011 18:55

Someone said on here the other week "everyone on MN is sensitive about something."

I am starting to see what she meant.

Mary my wine o'clock starts at five UK time because I'm in Europe.

Think on lass

TheFlyingOnion · 07/06/2011 18:58

paaaa ha haha Grin yes I'm defensive because I don't like Miss prissytoes judgeypants passing comment on my life!

That'll be it!

yousankmybattleship · 07/06/2011 18:58

Yes, I'm defensive. I don't drink very much at all but when I do I bloody love it!

Funtimewincies · 07/06/2011 19:00

I can see your point OP but a glass of fizzy water and carrot sticks dipped in houmous just isn't the same Grin. If that constitutes a need then, yes, I need a drink in the evenings but I can't say that I'm wracked with guilt about it.

AgentZigzag · 07/06/2011 19:01

Or anything you could be judged on worra -

No dummies
No playpens
No milk for your DC
No Greggs (Shock)
No clothes
No cars
No children (solves a lot of judging in one foul swoop)
Don't breathe (just in case you take more than your fair share of oxygen)

In fact, just sit in a corner rocking.

AgentZigzag · 07/06/2011 19:02

Low fat houmous I hope funtime?

bupcakesandcunting · 07/06/2011 19:02

I love you, TFO. You remind me of a younger me Wink

jesuswhatnext · 07/06/2011 19:02

hmm tbh OP, i think you sound a bit sanctimonious, i have had HUGE support on MNs from 'normal' drinkers as well as from problem drinkers, however, i am an alcoholic and i think some of the posts here sound a bit worrying - believe me, AA is full of very nice, ordinary women who 'relaxed' every evening with a glass of wine - its only too easy for it to become habit rather than a treat (i speak from experience) and for the amount consumed to become out of control, just be careful is all im saying! fwiw, i really envy those of you who can have a couple of glasses and leave it at that!, i have no such 'off switch'!

btw, i have honestly found that not drinking does not make one 'dull' - i was really worried about that but i find im still up and partying long after the drunks have gone home! Grin
