Exactly what title says!

I found out someone I know's son got poorly and got taken into hospital, she got him there in the early hours of the morning and then got the earliest train to go out to a festival! W.T.F??

Am I being unreasonable to think she is a bad mum?

The DC isn't even 2 yet! And father was abroad on holiday, so DC was left alone :(

Poor DC has been in and out of hospital all his life, and she goes out as if she has no responsibilities, clubbing etc.

I was gobsmacked when I found out she still went!

There must be more to the story though- surely? If the mum was already planning on going to the festival, who was supposed to be looking after the DS? Or was she going to take him with her?

wow, sounds like she used the hospital as some free childcare.

However, is that even legal/pemitted. I mean, surely there would have been a quick call to the on call SS to tell the woman to stay put. Don't they have to stay to sing congenital documents, consult with on treatment?

I am not saying you are telling fibs...but really really?

strange thing to do, poor littlen.... but she did so not much to say really
hopefully there was a grandparent or relative there, not that it makes her own absence any less pants

Actually you'd be surprised how often hospitals are used as free childcare. My old manager said in her nursing days it wasn't at all uncommon to find children left at the end of surgerys on a friday night only to have the parents waltz in saturday or sunday to pick them up.
They know hospitals have a duty of care and have to either find them a bed or get SS to look after them.

Her DM was supposed to have her DC, she had even taught her to use the dialysis machine especially (her and XP were the only people shown at the hospital) but afaik, her mum doesn't drive.

She has done this several times, and when he was in for long periods I used to think it was because she needed the break, but to literally drop him off then go? I couldn't believe my ears.

It's not even like it was something minor wrong with him, they thought he had an infection in the line that goes directly into his heart!

I don't really know any more details though I'm afraid, I just wanted to see if I was being unreasonable and to share my disgust!

Unbelievable. If my kids were in hospital I'd be one of those annoying parents who insist on taking up residence on a bedside chair until their departure. I'd be very polite about it, but nothing would make me leave the hospital.

Poor child, what a horrible, selfish thing to do.

Easy to judge but...

This may be her only chance of respite from what sounds like a 24 hours full on job with an ill child. Maybe she knew that if she doesnt take her breaks when she can get them then she simply wont be able to function and child goes into care.

Unless you walk in her shoes......

yes it was.i really couldn't think what they would rather be doing tbh.
obviously the nurses couldn't take time out to look after them all apart from essentials (feeding obs)so there were babies in cots in seperate rooms all alone.

I work in a childrens hospital and if childrens parents dont visit/spend enough time with the child it is refered on to the hospital social work team as they are not deemed to be meeting the emotional needs of the child.
