To feel sorry for Cheryl Cole?

I know, I know, show business is brutal, I should get a life.

I just feel for her, it must be so horrible despite the truck loads of cash.

I can't believe anyone ever thought she'd translate to over there, she seems so untransportable.

I do think part of the problem though is that she has been put on a bit of a pedestal and believes the hype. I don't know anyone who likes her that much, yet she's apparently 'the nation's sweetheart.' Also, despite all of Simon's fawning over her she isn't particularly witty or articulate or a great judge, IMO Dannii is much better. So she has gone over to the US and been found lacking, it must be hard for her to deal with and Simon should never have put her in that position.

ohnoshedittant · 30/05/2011 17:04

worrliberty she was found guilty of assualt and not guilty of the racist bit. It's an important difference imo.

TheCowardlyLion · 30/05/2011 17:05

She is pretty, marketable (over here, at any rate), sells magazines/tabloids, and appears to be fairly malleable as a tiny part of Syco's massive machine. Talented she isn't - unless it is a talent to be tiny and wear expensive clothes.

I do feel that she has been quite spectacularly humiliated over the whole US X Factor experience, however, and I feel sympathy for her on that count.

izzywhizzyletsgetbusy · 30/05/2011 17:06

YABU to waste even an iota of pity on a wealthy young woman who has a criminal conviction for committing an act of violence against a female cloakroom attendant.

Surely the truly needy here in the UK and elsewhere haven't escaped your attention? Save your compassion for more worthy souls and causes, and let karma take care of Ms Cole.

worraliberty · 30/05/2011 17:22

ohnoshedittant Oh I didn't realise that Smile

She still insists it was self defence though...but who knows.

It wouldn't be the first time an up and coming popstar got above themselves...and equally it wouldn't be the first time someone got into an altercation with a popstar and saw ££££ signs.

PregolaLola · 30/05/2011 17:35

i would love to know who declared her the nations sweetheart as i have never met someone who likes her
'she came from a council estate and look how well she's done' - what a pile of crap she cant sing, cant even pretend to sing

yet as i wrote that i knew it would come out as me bashing her.... nobody else has the effect on me she does

i have not one iota of respect for someone who im supposed to feel sorry for because her fella cheated when the daft mayre keeps the money making surname

queenceleste · 30/05/2011 18:18

Of course there are innumerable places I could better put my compassion, absolutely!
I just think there is something horrible the way these slebs live and die by the press etc, it feels like a modern form of hanging to me, public humiliation, shaming, casting out into the wilderness.
I'm not saying she deserves it or doesn't deserve it, just that the process feels a bit medieval somehow. Of course, they get paid a massive amount, but I bet no one is prepared for what it must be like to fall on your face in public like th is.

Ditto CowardlyLion - but I actually think she comes across as being pretty likeable too.

AmyStake · 30/05/2011 18:32

It sucks but she received her full fee from the show (£1.8million or something, not bad for 2 days work).

I heard that she was denied a work visa because of her convictions but I haven't heard anyone else saying that so.. I don't know.

She would be a lot more likeable if her management didn't constantly portray her as the nation's sweetheart.

TheCrackFox · 30/05/2011 18:40

I don't particularly like her or dislike her TBH.

However, I think she was set up and SC is quite a cold operator. Great publicity for his programme - he is a producer.

Bollockstoitall · 30/05/2011 18:43

She has as much personality as a piece of cardboard left in the rain.
And as much 'talent' as a department store mannequin.

She truly irks me. Hmm

HorseWhisperer · 30/05/2011 18:44

No one can deny the woman is beautiful, but why on earth did anyone think that she could make it in the US. The breadth of talent there is phenomenal. We in the UK seem to love to celebrate mediocrity.

Nicole Scherzinger may well believe it is karma:

fergoose · 30/05/2011 18:45

Apparently her marriage was a con anyway - she only married him to prove she is not racist (after the court case) and he is rumoured to be gay so she was a good cover for him too. So all a cover up. Plus her hospital stay for malaria was supposedly due to diet pills.

I wouldn't trust anything I see or read about any of them to be honest!

theinet · 30/05/2011 18:50

I don't feel particularly sorry for "Biffa" . She's just a council estate chav, packaged and manufactured on a talent show, without real skill.

Hands up who would think "yeah, that Cheryl Cole - amazing distinctive singing voice".

Its all nonsense.

noddyholder · 30/05/2011 18:51

I think she is quite dull and the US demands more. She is not especially talented and i think she looks ok but nothing amazing and she has got fatter and over there that is a big no!

theinet · 30/05/2011 18:52

Fergoose - that probably explains why she has never promoted anti malaria charities ( which she could have done) following her "illness" - too much of a con.

Kwazi · 30/05/2011 18:52

Whatever her background, its very humiliating. Even if she was paid a shed load of money.

She should have known though, remember Brian Friedman started off on the panel and was sacked/moved into a backstage role pretty sharpish. He didn't translate well from the US to here so she must have known it was a massive gamble.

maighdlin · 30/05/2011 19:04

that youtube video made me PMSL at the thought of nicole scherzsinger (sp?) having watched that today laughing manically. Personally in the Nicole v Cheryl battle Nicole is way ahead on points for talent and personality.

as for feeling sorry for her? i was relieved when she went over to the US though thank god they can have her. then when she got sacked, thought finally she has fell of her high horse.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 30/05/2011 19:33

Thanks for the Youtube clip, HW - gave me such a good laugh.
Sarah Harding has gone up in my estimation - she sat there saying nothing, looking totally above slagging off other bands for the sake of it.

The others showed themselves up for the lame, unpleasant airheads they are.

And didn't someone say something about 'that load of random guys who got put together to make a band?' Wtf are Girls Aloud if not a manufactured girl band? (I'm probably wrong here, since I never watch talent shows, but I was convinced that's how they started).

Anyway, I've never understood the obsession with La Cole - she's never said anything I've found worthy of listening to (the one time I saw her interviewed by Alan Carr). And I'm afraid I'm quietly amused by her lack of success in the US. Not nice but there you are.

nijinsky · 30/05/2011 19:36

I do a bit too. I liked watching her on tv, simple as that. I don't think because she has made a bit of money she doesn't have feelings worthy of consideration. I do though like most people think it was all in Simon Cowell's plan.

I have really good gaydar. I am sure Simon Cowell is into men. That would explain why his beards ex girlfriends are still all on the scene. Its not normal.

nijinsky · 30/05/2011 19:49

Fergoose Apparently her marriage was a con anyway - she only married him to prove she is not racist (after the court case) and he is rumoured to be gay so she was a good cover for him too. So all a cover up.

Have heard that too! And of course her "boyfriend" Derek Hough in the States is as gay as they come.

valiumbandwitch · 30/05/2011 19:52

I feel sorry for her too. They've really messed her around, she's been humiliated. The breakup of her marriage is not long behind her. I mean, I know she's young, beautiful, loaded but those things don't make you totally impervious to feeeeelings

fergoose · 30/05/2011 19:56

i agree about Derek. I've heard the Cowell gay rumours too. Dunno why they can't all just be honest. I guess fame and money makes them all greedy liars.

MoreBeta · 30/05/2011 20:01

If the story I read today is true that she was asked to lose weight for American X Factor I find that shocking and unfair. She does not need to lose weight. She does not need to change her accent either.
