To make my kids walk home (withme) cos I have had a drink???

We live a 10 minute walk from school, the route we take meanders along a footpath, lots of wildlife and nature. To take the car also takes 10 minutes.
I have had a few drinkies with a friend over lunch, but now it's decidedly blustery. Kids are going to hate the weather but have no choice cos I have to walk to pick them up.
I know I have no choice but to walk but they are going to get blown to buggery. Now feel a teensy bit guilty cos it was sunny when I had a drink.
Should I have not had a drink at all (not had much but too much to drive) or should I have declined just in case my little darlings get a bit wet and windy swept on the way home

I think that's the problem LOTM you have 'in the manner of the tabloid press' sensationalised all the info given by the OP.

It's no longer 3 glasses it's a bottle, and you use language like 'drained the glass'. Perhaps OP sipped her wine in a lady like fashion and did not drink every last drop.

reelingintheyears · 26/05/2011 17:38

The childminder is an employee....
And it wasn't a bottle...

I dunno OP...you're going to get done for giving a 10 year old coke...

I would never have done that.Wink

LadyOfTheManor · 26/05/2011 17:38

Micro, OP said she drank 3 glasses. That's 1 glass less than a bottle.

cannydoit · 26/05/2011 17:39

drive me thinks you are enjoying being flamed Grin

K999 · 26/05/2011 17:41

LOTM....depends on the size of the glass. My wine glasses take a whole bottle. That way I can say I've only had one glass! Grin

Pictish · 26/05/2011 17:41

LOTM - so it's one glass less than a bottle.....and?

reelingintheyears · 26/05/2011 17:41

Hey LOTM....if they were large glasses it probably was a bottle...

Just poking the embers here. Wink

LadyOfTheManor · 26/05/2011 17:42

Pic, not too sure who you are; but I was correcting a statement below where I said "bottle" and meant to say "just short of a bottle".

reelingintheyears · 26/05/2011 17:43

Fuck me...
A wine glass that takes a whole bottle?

Where did you get it from?

I want one.

microfight · 26/05/2011 17:43

LOTM
It is 3 glasses, it could be a whole bottle if they were 250ml glasses, it could be 0.7 of a bottle if they were 175ml or it could be half a bottle if they were 125ml's. These are the 3 measures used today. So why be so pedantic about the fact it was one glass less than a bottle when the OP hasn't stated what measure she drank.

Hulababy · 26/05/2011 17:45

The OP said she'd had three glasses. depending on the glass that could be half a bottle or more.

I assume it is a one off not a regular occurance, nor somepthing particularly planned.

Huge, massive difference between being able to drive and being able to care for children.

The doctors/hospital thing is a red herring. You;d use public transport ot get a taxi. Or are you saying that non drivers are irresponsible parents too?

Tonight I am going to have a drink or two, as is DH. I;ve had a stressy day and fancy a drink. We shall share a bottle of wine. I may even have a wee dry sherry or port afterwards too. Neither DH or myself will be drunk. We will be more than capable of caring for 9y DD. However, neither of us would drive after drinking half a bottle of wine. That would be wrong. We enjoy a drink together every so often, especially with a nice meal - best start cooking actually! If DD should fall in and need the hospital I will call a taxi.

TBH as parking is so horrendous near our children's A&E 'd probably call a taxi anyway - I did when DD broke her foot, and at that time I was perfectly sober one afternoon.

Hulababy · 26/05/2011 17:46

As for thre Jayden comment - I assume Hully thinks the poster is someone who may be known for having a drink ro three during the day perhaps?

reelingintheyears · 26/05/2011 17:46

But what if it was a 15% wine.....

How bad would THAT be..

Or it may have been a 5% one...

That would be..............

Not worth the flaming.

reelingintheyears · 26/05/2011 17:47

The Jayden comment is rude.

LadyOfTheManor · 26/05/2011 17:47

Jesus Christ. So many apologists on here. I've already said, drink away all you like.

However, for ME it would irresponsible to consume that much alcohol in the middle of the day. I don't know too many mums (or dads for that matter) that drink quite so much at lunchtime.

I have stated that the need to drive is crucial because I don't live on an estate or built up area where there is public transport. Besides, I like to have a clear head when in charge of my children, if you don't then go ahead and down 3 glasses of wine before 2pm comes.

reelingintheyears · 26/05/2011 17:50

Why would you need to drive if you live on an estate?

Maybe it's in walking distance.

Do i detect a hint of council estate here?

AgentZigzag · 26/05/2011 17:52

All this ostentatious use of glasses to quaff wine out of a perfectly good bottle Hmm

Grin

'Pic, not too sure who you are'

Not asking in a snidey way LadyOfTheManor, but what does that bit of your post mean?

LadyOfTheManor · 26/05/2011 17:53

Reeling-There are usually bus stops near built up estates. Nothing to do with social housing.

Pic- Nothing just haven't seen your name before. Nothing personal.

LadyOfTheManor · 26/05/2011 17:53

*her

AgentZigzag · 26/05/2011 17:55

You're doing well to remember most posters names in that case LadyOfTheManor.

LadyOfTheManor · 26/05/2011 17:57

That's just how the sober mind rolls ;)

pink4ever · 26/05/2011 17:57

Actually I totally agree with ladyofthemanor(and I am a complete vino-holic). When I meet friends for lunch I stick to 1 small glass of wine or just have soft drinks. I dont think it is appropriate to drink most of a bottle just before you do the school run/walk.
When my dc was at nursery one of the mums regularly turned up stinking of booze(oh I only had a few ciders... hic) but I guess cider makes it chavvy and vino makes it okHmm. Yet again pinko, liberal clap-trap gone mad on mn.
Op-congratulations on your birthday but cant you arrange a girls night out for a suitable time(then you can get as pished as you like?).

Pictish · 26/05/2011 17:58

It's ok - I'm relatively new on here.

I know I'm being a bit rudey...but honestly LOTM, your supercilious tone is infuriating.

LadyOfTheManor · 26/05/2011 17:58

Pic- I'm sure I'll live knowing what you think about me.
