To make my kids walk home (withme) cos I have had a drink???

We live a 10 minute walk from school, the route we take meanders along a footpath, lots of wildlife and nature. To take the car also takes 10 minutes.
I have had a few drinkies with a friend over lunch, but now it's decidedly blustery. Kids are going to hate the weather but have no choice cos I have to walk to pick them up.
I know I have no choice but to walk but they are going to get blown to buggery. Now feel a teensy bit guilty cos it was sunny when I had a drink.
Should I have not had a drink at all (not had much but too much to drive) or should I have declined just in case my little darlings get a bit wet and windy swept on the way home

SoFluffy - your assumptions are all wrong.

Manny is on the right track...

But you could argue that anything can happen with small children so you should remain completely sober for that 'just in case' moment. I did not completely sign my life away when we had children. What a dull world it would be if we had.
This thread is really driving me towards another glass Grin

Apologies Hully maybe that's my own assumptions I was subconsciously projecting onto you.

cannydoit · 26/05/2011 16:44

blinking hell she had a drink that doesnt make her the anti christ, or even a bad mother and it certainly doesnt make her an alcoholic. what are you people like????

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 26/05/2011 16:47

I would say YABU not to walk every day! Smile

Can't believe there are posters on here who think that once in a blue moon having three glasses of wine at lunch is a heinous crime. Yes, if it was everyday. I assume that your husbsands are told not to have any wine at lunch too in case they have to go to hospital with the kids at some point in the evening....

I am going to a boozy lunch tomorrow with an old friend.... disclaimer: My kids are 22 and 20 and away at University. I promise to be stone cold sober when they are at home.

unclefester77 · 26/05/2011 16:49

I can't drive anyway. If my child was ill I'd have no option but to call a taxi...

TandB · 26/05/2011 16:50

I am always quite impressed by anyone who can drink at all during the day and not fall over. The only times I drink in the day are weddings and a big event we go to once a year which involves A Lot of Booze.

My old boss once insisted on taking the whole criminal department out for a drink at lunch to celebrate a new member of staff joining. We all had to go lock ourselves in our offices for the rest of the afternoon and hope no-one actually needed us to do anything.

microfight · 26/05/2011 16:52

Bibbitybobbity 'I think we are gradually becoming more and more boozy as a nation and it will all catch up with us one day.'

As opposed to the the 1700's with Britain's gin drinking days! We've always been alkies Grin

Blimey the judgey pants are high and tight today!!!

Since when did 3 glasses of wine make an alcohol problem or a bad mother or anything else for that matter??!

AmazingBouncingFerret · 26/05/2011 16:54

Oooh oooh I got the Jayden reference.
Grin

I cant drink in the day it interupts my evening drinking and I end up too hungover to function the next morning...

unclefester77 · 26/05/2011 16:54

but nice assumption by some that anyone who drinks too much must be a chav....I think the middle classes have just as many problems with drinking, it just looks better if its Jacobs Creek and not WKD blu, yes?

bibbitybobbityhat · 26/05/2011 16:54

Hmmm, yes, and we were such a healthy nation in the gin drinking days.

reelingintheyears · 26/05/2011 16:55

You need an older DC to pick the little blighters up for you on occasion..Smile
Can you not adopt/hire one for the purposes of? Grin

Thingumy · 26/05/2011 16:55

bibbitybobbityhat · 26/05/2011 16:55

unclefester77 · 26/05/2011 16:55

Thingumy · 26/05/2011 16:57

But blue WKD tastes vile.

I've only seen teenagers drink it down the park.

K999 · 26/05/2011 16:58

Blue WKD and red wine is yummy! Gets you very pissed. It's called a Cheeky Vimto...Grin

lady007pink · 26/05/2011 16:58

Sometimes, I bring the dog for a walk to the school when collecting ds age 10 and dd1 age 8, then we all walk back home. It takes 25 minutes (I carry their bags on my shoulders though!), they love it!
