To make my kids walk home (withme) cos I have had a drink???

We live a 10 minute walk from school, the route we take meanders along a footpath, lots of wildlife and nature. To take the car also takes 10 minutes.
I have had a few drinkies with a friend over lunch, but now it's decidedly blustery. Kids are going to hate the weather but have no choice cos I have to walk to pick them up.
I know I have no choice but to walk but they are going to get blown to buggery. Now feel a teensy bit guilty cos it was sunny when I had a drink.
Should I have not had a drink at all (not had much but too much to drive) or should I have declined just in case my little darlings get a bit wet and windy swept on the way home

come to my local Grin
the last time DH and I ventured in there was a man and wife arguing about why they shouldn't both have a sixth bottle of it and the man was saying in response to her plea that it was 'eating into the burial funds' that his mother had had a pauper's funeral, and he'd be dead so he wouldn't care. Ah, the demon drink Confused

reelingintheyears · 26/05/2011 17:00

Is it too early to open my Wine?

I haven't cooked DPs dinner yet Grin

TheOriginalFAB · 26/05/2011 17:01

BIt Hmm that turning 40 entitles you to drink in the day. If you want a drink, have one, but don't pretend you have earned it by living a certain length of time.

microfight · 26/05/2011 17:01

bibbity

Of course, we weren't a healthy nation in the gin drinking days but we have always like a drink, it's nothing new.

BTW, OP YANBU. and Happy 40th for Saturday.

reelingintheyears · 26/05/2011 17:01

Whatever next...
dogs at the school gates..

I bet it's a nasty,'orrible pitbull Grin

drivinmecrazy · 26/05/2011 17:03

Am now listening to Lady GaGa and dancing with my girls now if that gives you a better over view of my life and I can honestly say that a few glasses of wine in and her music makes much more sense to me, roll on DH coming home so he can cook the dinner and I can further indulge Grin (waiting for a flaming for that too-'too drunk to cook the dinner=kids in care')
I am intent on enjoying the last few hours of my youth, if I am lucky another friend may tempt me with a glass tomorrow too

Not a problem to have a drink or 3 with friends when you are in a position to do so.

Big problem to get too pissed to drive in the middle of the day when you are solely responsible for the dc, and when you are supposed to be driving them somewhere.

There is a time and a place, and this was not it, IMO.

BimboNo5 · 26/05/2011 17:03

No a cheeky vimto is WKD blue and PORT! Bleeding amateurs!

shineoncrazydiam0nd · 26/05/2011 17:03

Am I alright to shag during the day before I collect the kids?

Just checking if it is OK with MN? Grin

I am boringly teetotal though as a rule so wouldn't drink before school run. < fucking GET ME >

drivinmecrazy · 26/05/2011 17:03

Might I add am not too pissed to cook dinner, just not inclined to this evening

OP posts:
shineoncrazydiam0nd · 26/05/2011 17:04

A cheeky vimto sounds beyond vile

microfight · 26/05/2011 17:05

I have to say I couldn't drink anything prefaced with the word cheeky, in fact I hate the prefacing of cheeky in front of any drink or action, so awful...but I am digressing!

reelingintheyears · 26/05/2011 17:06

Put 'em to bed earlyish and crack open another.

Don't listen to the dog bum mouths.

My DP would have laughed at me.

He still does.

LadyOfTheManor · 26/05/2011 17:06

I didn't say she was a bad mother.

I merely said I wouldn't drink a bottle of wine before the school run because I like to be responsible (ie; it's important to me to have to drive if there's a problem as we live in the sticks).

People can drink bottles all day long, good for them. With young children I'd rather NOT drain glasses of wine all day long.

drivinmecrazy · 26/05/2011 17:06

My neighbour swears by asti spumante and red wine, tastes suprisingly good (no,she doesn't have kids but god forbid the three dogs need an emergency visit to the vets)

LadyOf The Manor

Just to be perefectly clear on this....the daily amount of alcohol that I recommend, as an adult and a mother, is as much as I fucking want.

That goes for the OP too btw. And...err....everyone else as well.

bibbitybobbityhat · 26/05/2011 17:07

Microfight - I take it you do not share my worry that there is increased alcohol dependency and alcohol abuse in the UK then.

Op - my comments were general, not based on what you have said or done this afternoon, you do realise that don't you?

I do think it is absolutely fine for parents in sole charge of children to have had over the drink/drive limit (which is very low) - else single parents would never be able to drink at all, which is of course utterly bonkers.

reelingintheyears · 26/05/2011 17:08

She didn't have to drive them anywhere...
They walked.
And she didn't even fall over.

MoaningLisa · 26/05/2011 17:08

A cheeky vimto is Blue WKD and Port not red wine.

sjm123 · 26/05/2011 17:08

Super crazy vimto is much nicer. Bottle of WKD blue, double Jack Daniels and coke and a double port, all in a pint glass. Tastes like vimto, is very strong. Brings back memories of my very silly 30th birthday night out Grin

I see no problem with a couple of glasses of wine at lunchtime, honestly. I don't think I've ever done it myself, but I wouldn't rule out one or two at some point.

K999 · 26/05/2011 17:09

Bimbo....you're right! Getting confused and I am having a glass of red wine now! Grin

microfight · 26/05/2011 17:11

LOTM
Are you implying that OP is irresponsible? Well that's what I have inferred from your post. It makes you sound so patronising and uptight. Chill out!

LoopyLoopsBettyBoops · 26/05/2011 17:13

I can't wait for the day that I can indulge in a bit of daytime drinking. Ooooh summer Pimms... (Or is that OK, as it's quite a middle class drink?)

Pregnancy is a long time.

microfight · 26/05/2011 17:13

bibbity

You are probably right, it's just that I think it's not the first time in our history that we have had problems with alcohol. I was just being light hearted.

saidthespiderwithahorridsmile · 26/05/2011 17:14

oh for pete's sake it's ten minutes walk

LOTM you do sound like a wet weekend I'm afraid

nothing nicer than being a bit tipsy after a lovely boozy lunch with a good friend

the kids will benefit from your good mood and sense of wellbeing OP Grin
