To make my kids walk home (withme) cos I have had a drink???

We live a 10 minute walk from school, the route we take meanders along a footpath, lots of wildlife and nature. To take the car also takes 10 minutes.
I have had a few drinkies with a friend over lunch, but now it's decidedly blustery. Kids are going to hate the weather but have no choice cos I have to walk to pick them up.
I know I have no choice but to walk but they are going to get blown to buggery. Now feel a teensy bit guilty cos it was sunny when I had a drink.
Should I have not had a drink at all (not had much but too much to drive) or should I have declined just in case my little darlings get a bit wet and windy swept on the way home

Driving, do you drink every day? Or do you enjoy being around your children less most of the time when you're not drinking?

SoFluffyImGonnaDie · 26/05/2011 16:15

Maybe it's because Hullygully is suggesting that only parents who call their children names such as 'Jayden' would do something as disgraceful as have 3 glasses of wine and smoke cigarettes

'What if they need to the go to the doctor's or hospital?' Well, she'd get a taxi or ring a friend or if really serious an ambulance.

Poledra · 26/05/2011 16:16

"I'm of the mind that parents looking after children shouldn't drink a third of a bottle of wine."

LadyoftheManor, my DH doesn't drive. Are you suggesting that I should never drink more thna one glass in case one of my DCs needs to go to the doctor/hospital? What about people who don't drive/don't have a car? Do they get to drink since they could not drive their children anywhere?

northernrock · 26/05/2011 16:16

Britney Spears Kid-Jayden, right?
Daytime drinking makes me puke (literally)
Have a coffee and sober up woman!

BimboNo5 · 26/05/2011 16:16

Lady you are being very OTT and sanctimonious. She's had a couple of glasses not a fucking vineyard, get over yourself. Loosen up, get pissed and smoke some fags.

SoFluffyImGonnaDie · 26/05/2011 16:17

I don't think going out for lunch and having a few glasses of wine indicates an alcohol dependancy does it? I haven't done it since havin dcs purely because I would want to stay at the pub

LadyOfTheManor · 26/05/2011 16:17

It's personal preference. Some people like to drink a bottle of wine before picking their children up from school and some people don't.

usualsuspect · 26/05/2011 16:20

Can't your Manny pick them up?

northernrock · 26/05/2011 16:20

A few glasses is quite a lot in the middle of the day, and I say that as a wino who gets thru a couple of bottles a week.(And smokes the odd fag.)

Sqee · 26/05/2011 16:20

Beautifully said BimboNo5 Tho she probably only drinks organic wine made from grapes she has grown herself.

shineoncrazydiam0nd · 26/05/2011 16:20

I get what hully is saying.

LadyOfTheManor · 26/05/2011 16:21

I'm pregnant so I'm not drinking anything; and before I was pregnant I'd have the odd glass with supper when my ds was in bed. I wouldn't exceed one, if my husband wasn't here, and I wouldn't exceed one if he himself was drinking.

I most certainly did not drink a bottle before the school run.

bibbitybobbityhat · 26/05/2011 16:23

Don't make a habit of it drivinme, will you?

Tbh I am far more judgey that you drive the 10 minutes to or from school than that you've had wine at lunchtime.

But I do worry about alcohol. I know that makes me sound dreadfully po-faced, but I do. I think we are gradually becoming more and more boozy as a nation and it will all catch up with us one day.

I have two good friends, Mums who are a couple of years younger than me, and their dhs, who I truly believe are on the brink of disaster with alcohol.

But ... enough said Grin. Hope you enjoy your birthday celebrations!

Sqee · 26/05/2011 16:23

Well the bloodyfuck done! Now go knit something quickly or you'll just upset yourself reading this thread!

has OP actually said she has drunk a bottle of wine?

Thingumy · 26/05/2011 16:24

now I get hully's post.

LadyOfTheManor · 26/05/2011 16:25

1 glass short of.

I got Hully's post when I saw it Grin

SoFluffyImGonnaDie · 26/05/2011 16:28

I got it I just don't think it is relevant what her dc is called and presuming she is a chavvy mum because she has had 3 glasses of wine and god forbid smokes is unreasonable in my opinion.

Disclaimer - I neither smoke nor indulge in daytime drinking

Sqee · 26/05/2011 16:30

(|)

SoFluffyImGonnaDie · 26/05/2011 16:30

Or have a child called Jayden for that matter

drivinmecrazy · 26/05/2011 16:34

Ha Ha, sadly haven't got a drink problem, have just been off thread to make DD2 a (GENUINLY) organic milkshake. If it makes those perfect mothers out there feel better my DD1 was 5 when she visited a neighbour for tea but refused to eat it when she enquire 'was it organic' (I cringed with embarrasment). I enjoyed a glass or three today which I believe makes me a better parent cos I haven't completely forgotten what makes me happy (despite aproaching my 40th year) and yes that does include the occasional boozy lunch with girlfriends without making me a raving alchi Grin
