To make my kids walk home (withme) cos I have had a drink???

We live a 10 minute walk from school, the route we take meanders along a footpath, lots of wildlife and nature. To take the car also takes 10 minutes.
I have had a few drinkies with a friend over lunch, but now it's decidedly blustery. Kids are going to hate the weather but have no choice cos I have to walk to pick them up.
I know I have no choice but to walk but they are going to get blown to buggery. Now feel a teensy bit guilty cos it was sunny when I had a drink.
Should I have not had a drink at all (not had much but too much to drive) or should I have declined just in case my little darlings get a bit wet and windy swept on the way home

gin used to be called "mother's ruin" GrinGin

LoopyLoopsBettyBoops · 26/05/2011 17:15

When I worked in Italy I used to serve an old guy who drunk a black tea with Sambuca every morning at 7. That's serious.

Just a thought - do none of you nay-sayers ever drink in front of your kids? Do you stay sober at weddings etc?

microfight · 26/05/2011 17:16

Maybe I've just been watching too many episodes of Mad Men with their all day everyday 1950's drinking!

reelingintheyears · 26/05/2011 17:16

I took two bottles of cider round to my mates last week....500 ml bottles...

She said 'why thankyou but i don't like cider,i'll just have a Wine'

So i drank her bottle, it being a lovely sunny day and we were in her garden.

DP rang me to see where i was and came down to meet me.

I was bollocksed.

I hadn't read the volume.

It was 8.2% per bottle.

He drove me home. Smile

Not sure who you're talking to TheOriginalFAB, but I don't need an excuse to have a drink because I'm an adult and it's legal.

Hitting 40 is a milestone birthday, and anyone saying anything on the thread about it being an excuse for having a drink is joking.

Unless your Hmm face was an ironic one?

LoopyLoopsBettyBoops · 26/05/2011 17:17

Westons Vintage, reeling? Mmmmmmm.

unclefester77 · 26/05/2011 17:17

Pimms and Blue WKD anyone?

rainyspells · 26/05/2011 17:18

personally I wouldn't have 3 glasses that early in the day but thats mainly down to me being a huge lightweight and would feel pretty damn merry (too merry to feel comfortable about being completely responsible for LO's iykwim)

LoopyLoopsBettyBoops · 26/05/2011 17:18

NO! Sacrilege to do such horrific things to Pimms.

reelingintheyears · 26/05/2011 17:19

Can't bloody remember but it didn't tatse or look strong but it was lush..Smile

unclefester77 · 26/05/2011 17:20

Joke

LoopyLoopsBettyBoops · 26/05/2011 17:21

Must be Westons. Best cider around. I want one (actually their 0.5% version takes pretty real, might have one of those - is that OK do you think scary non alcohol people, to have a bottle of 0.5% alcohol in the day whilst pregnant?)

reelingintheyears · 26/05/2011 17:21

HaHa....tatse Grin

Pictish · 26/05/2011 17:24

I'm not even a drinker to be honest...can't really be arsed with it....but if there's one thing I can't stick, it's people like LOTM getting all lemon faced, disapproving and pompous over three glasses of wine at lunch.

'I don't think any parent should drink more than a third of a bottle'

Really? Who the hell asked you?

reelingintheyears · 26/05/2011 17:24

LoopyLoops.......it had a nice picture on the side of the bottle.

Can't remember what of though.

rainyspells · 26/05/2011 17:26

Pictish - the OP asked for people's opinons, so that's what LOTM has given, fine you don't agree with it but no need for the 'who the hell asked you' when clearly it was the OP.

LadyOfTheManor · 26/05/2011 17:28

It's interesting because I can imagine a thread on here;

"My childminder drank a bottle of wine before walking to pick up my dc".

There would be uproar.

I have said people can drink all day long if they so choose. However, I, myself and for my family, believe it to be wrong to drink a bottle of wine before the school run.

Then again, I come home and make supper and don't think I'd be fully in charge of my actions with a toddler around, and if there's an accident (likely if you've had over the recommended allowance) your reactions are slower and then you can't drive. Drink as much as you like, I like my liver.

Pictish · 26/05/2011 17:31

The OP didn't ask 'how much is acceptable for me to drink on a boozy lunch with a friend?'

LadyOfTheManor · 26/05/2011 17:32

Then why didn't the op just say;

"AIBU to walk my children home from school"?

microfight · 26/05/2011 17:33

The Op has not said she drank a bottle of wine has she LOTM

drivinmecrazy · 26/05/2011 17:34

Now it's Tiny Tempah on the PC, and god forbid another glass. Kids have gone wild, I don't think I'm that far behind. DH 10 minutes away. And Yes, becoming 40 is an excuse to go a bit wild, am sure my DDs will not suffer as they have been at the centre of everything I have done for the last 10 years. ME TIME FOR A FEW DAYS ME THINKS. DD1 even asked for a glass of coke a few minutes ago and I said 'YES' (doesn't happen if Mummy has not had a few cos coke is usually reserved for Daddys JD) Now prepared for a flaming cos we both enjoy a drink or because I have let a 10yo have a coke

LadyOfTheManor · 26/05/2011 17:35

Sorry I should've have written;

One glass short of a bottle.

4madboys · 26/05/2011 17:35

lady of the manor, but a childminder is an EMPLOYEE and would be drinking on the job, a bit different!

i think its fine!

but then i just got home from having to take my ds4 to get a head bump checked out, no stitches thankfully! just have to watch for head injury sympotoms. and i have since put the baby down for a nap and bribed the others with chocolate whilst i sit in the garden and have a drink and a sneaky fag Shock

i dont drive so if i do have to take ds4 to a&e (unlikely) then i would have to get a taxi anyway and quite frankly the drama of the past two hours means i NEED that drink, well the fag more tbh! shoot me now!
