To make my kids walk home (withme) cos I have had a drink???

We live a 10 minute walk from school, the route we take meanders along a footpath, lots of wildlife and nature. To take the car also takes 10 minutes.
I have had a few drinkies with a friend over lunch, but now it's decidedly blustery. Kids are going to hate the weather but have no choice cos I have to walk to pick them up.
I know I have no choice but to walk but they are going to get blown to buggery. Now feel a teensy bit guilty cos it was sunny when I had a drink.
Should I have not had a drink at all (not had much but too much to drive) or should I have declined just in case my little darlings get a bit wet and windy swept on the way home

Your child, no?

FabbyChic · 26/05/2011 15:19

No you shouldn't have had a drink, frankly I think it is really selfish of a parent caring for children to drink alcohol when they have to collect them from school and look after them. Smacks of selfishness.

The brisk walk will sober you up!! Good exercise for the kids too. Grin

I had bucket loads a few glasses of vino last night and have been suffering today.....

LadyOfTheManor · 26/05/2011 15:29

This is all going to get a bit nasty.

Having a glass of wine at lunch is fine-I abstain from it, but it's fine for others.

Drinking over the limit by 2pm is probably not fine.

Making your children walk? Acceptable. Making them walk because you're legally too drunk to drive? Not acceptable.

What if they need to go to the doctors or hospital?

I also don't think it's acceptable to continuing drinking throughout the afternoon. I don't think it would hurt to exercise some self control, especially if you're the sole care for the children once school has finished.

Ormirian · 26/05/2011 15:30

Of course that's OK.

The walk will teach them all about nature.

And the impact of alcohol on the human brain Grin

LadyOfTheManor · 26/05/2011 15:30

continue*

cannydoit · 26/05/2011 15:40

i was waiting for you to get a bit of a flaming for being a bit pissed in charge of kids Grin you terrible evil parent you. should be shot or locked up or something equally bad for having deemed to have fun in the day.

drivinmecrazy · 26/05/2011 15:45

Am back, sun shone gloriously. If three glasses constitutes too pissed to look after kids then please some one take my DDs now. To be classed as too drunk to drive does not equate to falling about the place unable to look after the children. What a boring, sad world we would live in if as parents we had to endure 18 years of sobriety to be classed as good parents

OP posts:
K999 · 26/05/2011 15:48

I can barely get through 18 hours of sobriety! Grin

cannydoit · 26/05/2011 15:52

i am with k999 excepting these fucking antibiotics.

cannydoit · 26/05/2011 15:53

roll on saturday.

LadyOfTheManor · 26/05/2011 15:54

Each to their own.

I wouldn't leave my children with someone merrily drinking from lunchtime and throughout the afternoon.

I'm of the mind that parents looking after children shouldn't drink a third of a bottle of wine.

LadyOfTheManor · 26/05/2011 15:55

Or is it 2 thirds?

How many glasses in a bottle...is it 4?

Ephiny · 26/05/2011 15:59

I'm sure they'll cope with a 10 minute walk! Why would you even consider driving such a distance, drinks or no drinks?

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 26/05/2011 16:03

3 small glasses would be 3/5s of a bottle.

Most glasses are larger, though.

YANBU OP but I would stop now at least until the DCs are in bed.

I recognise that "oh I'll have another one" thing that happens after you've had a few. Your judgement is a bit fucked, basically.

Fimbo · 26/05/2011 16:05

Lazy buggers like you get on my nerves. My dc walk in all weathers and have done so since they were small. I bet you splash through the puddles and soak the walkers. Gahhhhhhhhhh.

AgentZigzag · 26/05/2011 16:09

Good job they're not your children then LadyOfTheManor.

mamaraccoon · 26/05/2011 16:10

I'd just like to say- aren't you over the limit technically if you have any more than one glass? I believe so. And fags as well! Shocking! This is hilarious. I also have no idea what 'yanbu' means. There are a lot of abbreviations on this site.

WishIWasRimaHorton · 26/05/2011 16:10

i misread LadyOfTheManor's post. I thought she said 'parents looking after children shouldn't drink a third bottle of wine'. I was going to agree - 2 really is enough for anyone. And then I notice that she said 'a third of'. Blush

drivinmecrazy · 26/05/2011 16:11

Some mornings, after 2 hours of sibling fighting just do not want to endure another 10 minutes of bickering. At least in the car you can turn the radio up

OP posts:
LadyOfTheManor · 26/05/2011 16:11

Absolutely. I try and be responsible when caring for my children.

SoFluffyImGonnaDie · 26/05/2011 16:11

Why would her dc be called Jayden? Am I missing something or are you friends in rl Hullygully?

drivinmecrazy · 26/05/2011 16:12

I tend to enjoy my girls more after a couple of glasses
