to think that DD is promiscuous and unreasonable?

DD, been going out with boyfriend for six weeks. She only turned 17 nine days ago. DD met her boyfriend at a guiding / scouting convention and they hit it off. Unfortunately, he lives 81 miles away in Nottingham. Anyway, just had a blazing row with DH and DD as DD announces that boyfriend is coming to visit next weekend and when I asked her where she thought he would sleep, she looked at me with aghast, and said in my bed of course.

Rightly or wrongly, I said over my dead body. I told DD in no uncertain terms that this was our home and not a brothel. DH says i'm out of order and reminded me that this is 2011 and not 1951.

I have been in tears over this. Sorry, but it wouldn't matter if she was 17 or 21, she isn't married so I will not let her share a bed in my house. Am confused.

Well to be honest OP, you get out of it what you put in to it. If you're going to talk to your daughter like she's promiscuous or a prostitute, you might be surprised at the outcome. You're her mum at the end of the day and regardless of how upset you are you should set an example to her of how to behave. That kind of talk WILL NOT WASH at all, and you should have been ashamed to speak to her like that.

You're setting the bar very low for your daughter- she is 17, has no idea how the world really works and her ideas are probably formed of teenage movies and what her friends think- this will only worsen if you continue to be a problem for her, because all you're doing is making her feel like she can't talk to you. What you need to recognise is at least she came to you - she probably didn't do anything behind your back!! SHE COULD HAVE DONE without talking to you. This was your prompt to have a serious conversation about having responsible relationships. I'm not too bothered about what you're views are- legal shmegal!! Life is life, you clearly want the best for her, just start acting like it

How is having only 1 boyfriend common in this day and age? And I don't think condom related deaths are on the rise tbh, although I'll happily be corrected if I'm wrong.

[off to check the Darwin Awards for any condom related deaths]

Glitterknickaz · 23/05/2011 22:36

(actually laughing arse off at listeningstick)

If you're talking nature when do most women become physically able to become pregnant and therefore sexually mature? Far younger than 17.

I'm not saying it is RIGHT to be sexually active just because you are sexually mature, but if we're talking nature....

Contraception is not healthy or natural especially for a young girl of 17. Much better be taught how to have self esteem and not be common.

She didn't really say that did she?

NulliusInVerba · 23/05/2011 22:40

I havent read all this thread because it is very wrong.

But is this a joke? Really?

Very flammable language you used, and to say your daughter is promiscuos and is treating the house "like a brothel" ?

Really if thats how you veiw sex I suggest you have issues and perhaps need councelling. While I agree, you dont have to allow someone of any age to have sex in your house, speaking to your daughter like that was completely out of order.

If this wasn't so obviously a troll I would be a bit sick. If this poor 17 year old was real it would be terrible that her mother was publishing the fact that she didn't trust her, like her or have any respect for her.
I imagine (if she was real) she would be starting some very entertaining threads in the future though.

SpringchickenGoldBrass · 23/05/2011 22:43

Actually the best advice for young people is to hold back on PIV sex. Oral and handjobs are often more pleasurable, particularly for women and girls, and carry a considerably lower risk of unwanted conception. And the most important thing to remember about sex is that it's fun and to be enjoyed by all participating in it.

Gentlemen? Do I have to repeat myself? Mine's a Theakston's, if you will.

I stood next to Simon Le Bon at the flicks once. He was awfully tall but appeared to have no neck. Most odd. As a consequence I am not convinced by his claims to have a throat tickle - no neck; no throat. I think he's trolling.

hit it off = shagged already

HTH.

oh FFS, I think that the OP was shocked and upset, and probably said some things which with hindsight she didnt mean, I think I would be pretty pissed off if my DD at 17 assumed that she would be allowed to have her boyfriend to stay in my house and sleep with her in her bed, and probably would be quite angry too. It doesnt matter whether rationally and logically I know that she is having sex with her boyfriend, I dont need my nose rubbing in it, and I dont need to condone it by allowing it to happen openly under my roof.
I dont approve of a 17yo having sex with a boyfriend of 6 weeks, but I dont think that makes me a bigot.
Have none of you ever said things to your kids in the heat of the moment that you later regret?
Lets put a different slant on it - say OP was a strict moslem and her DD wasnt so strict, was 18, and was drinking alcohol - would OP not allowing her to drink alcohol under her roof make her a bigot?
OP - go and apologise to your DD and have a heart to heart with her, explain you were shocked etc, and your reasons why you dont want her to sleep with her BF under your roof.

The best form of contraception is between the ears. Behaving like a tart as has been earlier stated on here is contusive to more fatherless children and a clogged up benefits system. Sorry but that is my and my husbands view and reinforced by the teachings in the bible.

I hope you give the same talk to your sons.

Oh I forgot, it's always the woman's fault isn't it...

Still puzzling over who or what listening stick's 'imorrality' is.

Is it a boy band, or a wild Oirish raggle-taggle gypsy o?

"Still puzzling over who or what listening stick's 'imorrality' is."

Suitably chastised!

How do you use the smilies?

listeningstick · 23/05/2011 22:59

Flabbychick April 1st is purely a pagan celebration and as such is not recognised. My husband has just told me it is time to get to bed so thank you all and God bless until tomorrow.

"the best form of contraception is between the ears"

I assume you have many, many children then listeningstick.

NerfHerder · 23/05/2011 23:01

Fatherless children? Immaculately conceived were they then?

As a Catholic that is only natural in Gods eyes, but they are brought up to respect themselves and others and not sponge off society.

Night.
