Right..now I've lured you all in!!Wink

Just a little nudge to remind people to give blood if you can.
Stocks are still incredibly low, you get to feel good about yourself and you get a lie down and a Brew afterwards.

Don't make me set Misdee on you!!

dont forget about the free Biscuit too Grin

I have my next appointment booked for July which will be number 24 :)

bupcakesandcunting · 23/05/2011 15:54

TFMD shamed me into giving blood. I am glad I did it :)

DontHassleTheBOF · 23/05/2011 15:55

I can't. My blood is too murky.

sausagesandmarmelade · 23/05/2011 15:55

Haha....hubs does this.

I never have...but then given that I have a tendency towards anaemia I think I can be excused.

It IS a very worthwhile thing to do though...

ConnorTraceptive · 23/05/2011 15:55

Really wish I could but alas mine is not wanted because I now have the blood of someone whose blood was wanted Confused

olibeansmummy · 23/05/2011 15:56

I can't because I had a blood transfusion after having ds :( Does that rule last forever or just a certain amount of time?

MamaChocoholic · 23/05/2011 15:57

I used to give blood. got that little silver badge thing. but they got tired of being unable to find a vein or sending me away with only a half full donation and told me not to darken their doors again :(

ChristinedePizan · 23/05/2011 15:57

They made a complete mess of my arm last week Angry I shall still go again in September though

olisbean - I don't think you can ever give blood if you have had a transfusion

dickiedavisthunderthighs · 23/05/2011 15:57

I'm not allowed. Weak veins and crap blood pressure.

It's shit, I feel like I'm failing somehow because I can't do it :(

MarisCrane · 23/05/2011 15:57

I can't any more - but I did used to.

M44 · 23/05/2011 15:58

I would love to, but I can't....Sad

RitaMorgan · 23/05/2011 15:58

I feel bad about not giving blood but I am needle phobic. Sounds like a bit of a rubbish excuse I know!

SarahStratton · 23/05/2011 16:00

I can't either, blood transfusion here too after DD1 :(

WhereYouLeftIt · 23/05/2011 16:00

Thanks for the reminder - where I used to work, the Blood team would come quarterly, set up in a hangar-sized space on-site and my employer was happy for us all to pop down whenever we felt able, to give blood during working hours. I've never really got myself organised to go regularly since, pathetic or what?

taylor74 · 23/05/2011 16:02

Sadly I can't give blood as I have heart problems, but my DH does. but we are both on the transplant list

That's funny, they turned me away the other months as blood wasn't good enough. The nurse told me they could be afford To be fussy as they have plenty. She said if stocks were to come down they'd lower their standards accordingly. They sent me a letter to the same effect. It seems most people presume they're always desperate for it.

Anyway as a slight aside I think it's pathetic to
judge people for not giving blood. It's their blood.

mrsbunnthebaker · 23/05/2011 16:04

i cant give it due to medication i am on
but feel free to judge, i really couldnt give a rats behind ((judge judy))

Cezzy · 23/05/2011 16:04

I used to give blood regularly too but can't any more after a transfusion after having DD1. I would love to go again but at the moment they say I can't any more. Keep trying to convince DH to take my place because "without people giving blood me and DD2 may not be here now!". My sister was turned away because she keep passing out afterwards!

cassierosse · 23/05/2011 16:05

I can't either, due to transfusions after DCs. Also, because they also required transfusions too, they can't. Sad

PersonalClown · 23/05/2011 16:05

If you can't give for whatever reason. that's fine.
I'm just hoping to catch the odd few that forget to keep appointments or haven't thought about it.

nickelbabe · 23/05/2011 16:07

I can't give now.
I did give 2 days before I got my BFP, but I didn't hear anything from the Blood People, so I assume it was okay to pass on....

I now have to wait another 15 months before I'll be allowed again.

taylor74 · 23/05/2011 16:11

Thats a good idea personalClown giving blood is something we forget to do,so the odd reminder here and there is good :)

merrymonsters · 23/05/2011 16:11

Maybe someone can answer my question. I've looked at the blood bank website and even rung their number for advice, but haven't been able to get an answer.

I carry the beta thallaesemia (sp?) trait. It's a kind of sickle cell blood disorder. I just the trait, not the disease. Can I give blood?

JellyBeansOnToast · 23/05/2011 16:15

I give every four months - it's a pretty big deal for me as I used to have a horrendous needle phobia. It was the worst any of my doctors had ever seen But yes, had some CBT and now you could stick needles in my eyes and I doubt I'd be too bothered. Never, ever thought I'd say that, so there is hope for you needle-phobics out there!
