I used to notice the odd one or two but I've seen loads recently. Maybe it's not that there's more women smoking in pregnancy but just more not giving a shit what people think.

i started smoking when i was around 23 (dumb huh) i was on about 3 to 5 a day mostly in the evening. i had my first 2 before i started smoking. i miscarried once and my second dd is severely autistic. i then got pregnant again, i gave up smoking sort of then started again then stopped then started i clearly remember getting very upset one night when a friend said to me that i shouldnt be smoking, i said to her i did everything right before and look what happened so i will smoke if i want this time. very strange logic, i can honestly say i wasnt really thinking straight.

TheBlindAssassin - of course it's possible to be an intelligent woman and not raise your children to be straight A* students, and possible to be an intelligent woman who works very hard and yet not be earning the kind of wage that affords a luxurious lifestyle Hmm. Why you think those two things bear any relation to the choice to continue smoking when pregnant isn't quite clear...

I'm just saying that we all have our own criteria for what count as an intelligent informed choices about how we live our lives and raise our children. Some may agree with those choices, others may not. After all, I'm sure those "unintelligent" smoking pregnant mothers would balk at some of the ways in which the "intelligent" non-smoking mothers choose to raise their own children, and vice versa. So long as those choices are legal, it's all relative.

There are many UNINTELLIGENT non smokers...............
