New to mumsnet (and mothering!) and shocked by the contents of some of the threads. Swearing/ bullying etc. But at baby groups people usually seem friendly and aren't swearing and cursing or being overly agressive. So - are the agressive types like that in RL or is it just a front for mnet?? And if it's just a front - why?

OP posts:
Hullygully · 10/05/2011 15:15

There was a quite marvellous youth called Ollie who was absolutely gay except he wasn't and made conversation about his hair over dinner.

Hullygully · 10/05/2011 15:16

Well, I went to one, once. I was going to go to one last night, but I forgot and watched the Chelsea thing. Sad.

SpringHeeledJack · 10/05/2011 15:16

shite. Am going to have to watch it in bed Sad

that's the Shame Telly

Hullygully · 10/05/2011 15:17

And Fred. Another one with magnificent hair.

SpringHeeledJack · 10/05/2011 15:17

you went to one????

Hullygully · 10/05/2011 15:18

I'm going to go to another one soon.

I expect.

SpringHeeledJack · 10/05/2011 15:19

...or piano recital?

[hopeful]

Hullygully · 10/05/2011 15:20

I am giving a short recital soon, but it is on the harp.

SpringHeeledJack · 10/05/2011 15:20

...can I just ask of the more prolific posters (you know who you are)

do you keep all your running threads in different tabs, and attend to them one at a time, like weaving?

bibbitybobbityhat · 10/05/2011 15:23

I am too scared to click on a picture of the balls of Baggs The Brand.

Is it truly awful?

SpringHeeledJack · 10/05/2011 15:26

Hully

and Bib- don't. Noone needs to see such a thing.

SpringHeeledJack · 10/05/2011 15:27

pssst...how are you, Bib? you not going to the meet up?

have been lurking on the thread sporadically and didn't see you on the list

BarbieGrows · 10/05/2011 15:31

Workingally, not this is NOT acceptable behaviour. All I can suggest is that you don't rise to the bait and ignore what you can. Remember you have a life with real people you can chat to.

BarbieGrows · 10/05/2011 15:42

(no - oops)

SpringHeeledJack · 10/05/2011 15:45

tbh I never post anything on here that I wouldn't say irl. This is because, when I started, I wrote whatever I damn well pleased, and got outed with earth-shaking consequences

OP, I'd say just Be Nice, and ignore the swearing if you don't like it. Stick up for people if you think they're getting a pasting, it tips the balance.

(although I don't like the nastiness, I love the swearing and filth. In fact that's probably why I'm still here)

mylovelymonster · 10/05/2011 15:53

I have come accross the odd bullying/rude/aggressive types but easy enough to go elsewhere if things looking a bit dodgy. It may be some people's personality, or most of the time I think it's people just needing to vent and this is an easy outlet.
There are equally the most genuine, kind, thoughtful, supportive, hilarious and knowledgeable people here, and the rest can be avoided.
I am rubbish at baby groups Blush

SpringHeeledJack · 10/05/2011 15:56

even my babies were shit at baby groups

I remember one where we used to sit in a circle to siiiing

unless I held on firmly, my dds would be crawling purposefully away under the ring of chairs Grin

WalterFlipschicks · 10/05/2011 16:10

Grin at we don't shag in front of the DC's we tell them to fuck off so we can do it in private!!!

OP, you have obviously slinked off elsewhere but there are a lot of really helpful and lovely people on here who are willing to give good, honest advice and help, AIBU is possibly the worst place to look (and post) if you want serious answers!

this site is so dripping with sarcasm, thats why I love it, but it's the same in RL, you don't want to mix with every person you meet, some of them are wankers.... just like MN, much less wankery on other forums if thats what you are after.

Good luck OP Smile

bibbitybobbityhat · 10/05/2011 16:14

(can't make my mind up Springy, just feeling exceptionally sad about my dad dying today ya know)

Sorry ... as you were ladies.

OP: Mumsnet is huge and has a gazillion members or something and unfortunately some of them are twats all of the time and some of us are twats some of the time, and some are just very nice all the time.

mylovelymonster · 10/05/2011 16:15

DD1 totally flunked Tumbletots as well Blush Didn't bother with SingingTrain and other such middle class money spinners fun groups, and has since dawned on me that these things are socials for the mums rather than bubs. How dumb am I!
When I do get together with other mums in RL who are not long-term mates (we have progressed to proper ballet classes), I find the situation to be a bit too safe and dull polite - which is why I like it here Grin

Gooseberrybushes · 10/05/2011 16:16

Coo I've just seen another thread about this, everyone was saying yes you're right, mustn't be nasty, mustn't pile in - and I'm told to get off the board when it happened to me??

whinge with knobs on

as you were

mylovelymonster · 10/05/2011 16:16

Bibbity - is that true?

Gooseberrybushes · 10/05/2011 16:18

Sorry minty about your loss, just read.
